The Asteroids Galaxy Tour deliver yet another unforgettable anthem on “Heart Attack.” With its instantly memorable melody and caffeinated beat, the song is perfect for singing in cars and bedrooms and guaranteed to invade dance floors. PopMatters premiered the spaced out “Heart Attack” (Cosmic Kids remix) MP3 yesterday.
I am very sorry for the lack of musical posts as of late. My day job (aka real job) has been overly overwhelming, then there was the holidays…but I know no one is interested in excuses.
ANYWAYS — I’m going to get back in the groove a little bit here, bear with me…
I hope everyone had a FANTASTIC holiday and are excited for what 2012 is to bring.
Here’s a little sumthin’ sumthins for being so patient with me — you’re gonna love it!
Ducky aka Morgan Neiman, has a producer’s instinct and a powerful voice. She has been making music since she was 13 years old and has played alongside the likes of Japanther, Ninjasonik, Roxy Cottontail, Trouble Andrew and Action Bronson. Her latest release, The Whether EP out February 21, fearlessly explores the sinister side. In this vein, Ducky recently released an introductory single “Killing Time” produced by Dingo Dog. The track is at once an ebullient Saturday afternoon love song and a subtle confession of its disintegration. Ducky matches a sophisticated pop sensibility to incisive vocals, addressing an absent “friend” with checked ferocity.
Classically trained musician and electro-pop composer Yuksek (aka Pierre-Alexander Busson) is about to invade the US, bringing a flurry of swooping, dance-pop anthems guaranteed to make you hum and sway. Empowered by his previous work with artists such as Chromeo and Amanda Blank, Yuksek’s new album pushes our lovely Frenchman to the front lines, both as vocalist and leading a fierce live band. On Living On The Edge Of Time, he marries the distorted, saturated sounds of dance floor decadence for which he’s known with a more melodic and catchy, and dare we say “pop” vibe.Living On The Edge Of Time will be released January 24th on Ultra Records.
There’s always been a pop heart beating inside Yuksek’s unique brand of electronic dancefloor bangers. Always catchy hooks hidden between the acid loops, hints of glam and indie infiltrating his energized house beats. Tunes like “So Far Away From The Sea” and “Extraball” from his acclaimed debut album revealed a powerful pop sensibility, deeply rooted into a lifelong affinity to artists as David Bowie, Gary Numan and The Cure, but also a devoted love for Lou Reed circa Transformer,Serge Gainsbourg, early West Coast-rap and the Warp label. Living On The Edge Of Time is the sound of an artist who can’t ignore the muse, a restless producer constantly in motion and a musician devoted to evolution. The album opens with “Always on the Run,” a track that sets the album’s underlying tone of chaos and movement grabbing you with a transfixing vocal melody that submerges you into the album. The first single, “On a Train” is a true dance-floor anthem that builds to an explosive chorus with a skittering beat that will get stuck in your head for days. On “White Keys,” a hauntingly eerie synthesizer sets a more contemplative mood while lingering over an up-tempo beat. Lyrically referencing the album title, “The Edge” has a pulsating beat sliced by keyboards stabs eventually exploding into a synth-fueled chorus. Closing the record is the 5 minute throbbing psychedelic pop-behemoth “Out Of Control,” complete with finger snaps and a driving bass line. Continuing his journey of musical evolution Yuksek is prepared to unleash his tour de force sound, making a lasting impression on American shores.
Queens, NY band The Shivers have released their newest album, More.
More, runs the gamut of American rock ’n’ roll, delving into everything from gritty Lou-Reed-inspired rock to the swaggering soul of Nina Simone. “Love Is In The Air” comes in about halfway through the album, and kind of serves as the record’s anchor; a slow, swaggering summer jam.
“Next big thing…Electro” New York Times “Irresistible, panting synth-pop, with fat new wave key tones and ecstatic vocals.” Pitchfork “A roller-coaster ride of an album that is as uplifting as it is beguiling” Q Magazine “Warp speed eclectic” Time Out London
French Horn Rebellion (Robert and David Perlick-Molinari) kick off 2011 by announcing the US self-release of their debut album The
Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion on April 19th digitally and May 24th physically (Once Upon A Time Records) and play 27 North American live shows supporting French electro pop outfit Yelle starting 17th April. MySpace Music exclusively premieres the band’s debut early, go here to listen to it.
Written, produced and mixed by Robert and David, ‘The Infinite Music…’ is a debut album that warps the fabric of dance, electro, rock and funk and may just turn out to be a contender for this year’s most ambitious, multi-faceted and engaging debut album. Crucially, the album also follows an intergalactic narrative that tracks the physical and emotional journey of an unknown French Horn player. “There is a story running through the album, it’s about the Universe. We’re pretty clear on what the story is, but what you take away from it may be something entirely different,” says David.
These two unassuming brothers, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have already toured and played with the likes of Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, The Drums and Cut Copy. The band have also remixed the likes of MEN, Two Door Cinema Club, OMD, Young Empires and Alex Winston.

Electra is proud to release the new video for their frenetic ska-rock ’n’ roll stomp “Coming to Get You!” The dark, left-field video catches one of the band’s performances as a series of freaks, geeks, and psychos sabotage the video.
Electra is currently signed to Anova Music – Tel Aviv’s leading record company – and their first two singles “Coming to Get You” and “Dawn of Summer” were instant radio hits. Their songs combine gritty, catchy melodies and garage rock swagger. They channel influences from Rockabilly grooves and ’60s soul to ’80s The Cars type music in the vane of The Clash and Buzzcocks. They’re quickly becoming one of the most provocative acts in the country and around the world.
The band’s also done a cover of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” that I’m in love with.
Electra Tour Dates:
03/19: Austin, TX @ Spiderhouse (1:00 pm)
03/19: Austin, TX @ The East Village (8:00pm)
03/21: Brooklyn, NY @ Braur Falls (9:00pm)
03/23: New York, NY @ Pianos (9:00pm)
03/24: Brooklyn, NY @ Bar Matchless (11:00pm)
03/26 Washington, DC @ Kennedy Center, Millennium Stage (6:00pm)
On the heels of an extremely successful trip to the UK which landed Luke Rathborne love from NME and the BBC, Luke returns to the US just in time for the release of his debut album, the split EP I Can Be One E.P. / Dog Years E.P., which is out now via Dilettante Recordings.
People have been asking - why the split EP? Rather than muddling his music’s disparate take on the world around him, attempting to intertwine songs written under different circumstances and in different frames of mind, Rathborne decided to offer audiences his ideal window into his headscape – two EPs, each unique in their own right, as one album.
Dog Years EP (stream in its entirety on Soundcloud) embraces Rathborne’s more pop aesthetic – not shiny, happy pop, but effervescent, melancholic pop. The title track offers a cynical poke to not letting the “dog years” pass you by. The material from the I Can Be One EP was penned following Rathborne’s move to New York City after high school and completed with members of Antony and the Johnsons contributing to the arrangements. The material on this EP takes on a somber, darker hue.
But while the tones change, the inspiration is largely the same. “All of the songs – on both EPs – are about being afraid of connecting, because connections open up the possibility of being harmed…It’s interesting that they intersect here, because I’d been playing with the idea of putting them together and seeing how they mix, but this seems a lot more pure – this is my music, this is what I want to say, and this is how I want to say it,” Luke explains.
If you’re headed to SXSW, don’t miss Luke Rathborne when he opens for The Stokes.
