Mom + Pop’s Boombox: Vol. 1

NYC’s Lucius will release their debut full-length album in North America with NYC tastemaker label Mom+Pop. Today, the label unveiled Mom+Pop’s Boombox: Vol 1, a compilation featuring tracks from its roster of acts including Lucius’ “Until We Get There demo” which earned great deal of praise after recently airing on FOX’s New Girl.With emotionally charged, upbeat, 60s inspired songs and a sincere crowd connection, the quintet has solidified its reputation as a must-see live band. Their summer tour includes stops at several festivals including Bonnaroo, Solid Sound Festival, Boston Calling + support dates with Tegan and Sara, The Head and the Heart and more.

Earlier this spring, the label launched Boombox, a monthly subscription service via Drip.fm, offering both digital downloads and deliveries of limited-edition 7”s. The 13-track sampler features Mom+Pop mainstays such as Andrew Bird and Polica as well as Hunters, Flume and the also recently signed Jagwar Ma.

We always preach about trying to make music that is a beautiful blend of pop, indie and progressive, which isn’t always possible, but we feel like this time, we did. Each of those genre to us represent some of music’s most important provisions, emotion, energy, dance and the ability to appeal to many.”

Video: Tegan and Sara Teach Andy Samberg How to be a Heartthrob

Tegan and Sara’s seventh studio album, Heartthrob, is out today (iTunes link, Spotify link). Everyone seems to be talking about the album and first single, “Closer” (which I posted the video for, here) The girls released songs early on a wide range of outlets including Vanity Fair, Glamour and NPR via All Songs Considered. Heartthrob premiered in its entirety with Rolling Stone, who have been huge supporters.

To say there’s a lot going on right now would be an understatement. The girls are on the cover of the new digital issue of Spin, scored a massive feature in The Wall St Journal, covered the Rolling Stones classic “Fool To Cry” for the soundtrack to the HBO smash series Girls and were just announced as one of the top line attractions at Coachella. They’ll be performing “Closer” this Thursday, January 31st on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Video: Morgan Page – Body Work ft. Tegan and Sara (+ more T+S news!)

Canadian pop-rock icons Tegan and Sara are in the studio recording their as-yet-untitled seventh studio album, the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2009 album Sainthood.

“Sara and I are trying to step outside of our comfort zones and push ourselves to the extreme with this one so get ready for a whole new T+S sound!” Tegan says. “We strive to keep things fresh and exciting with each new record and I definitely feel like we’re accomplishing that so far.”

Fans can keep up with their progress via an online web series “Carpool Confessional,” which captures them in the car as they travel to and from the studio each day. New episodes (which have featured such special guests as fun., Sia, and AFI’s Hunter Burgan) are posted every Tuesday on www.teganandsara.com. Rolling Stone is documenting the action as well, with new photojournals being posted every Wednesday. See the ongoing behind-the-scenes photo gallery here. Tegan and Sara – Get Along

Beloved Canadian pop-rock icons Tegan and Sara will release a very special DVD/CD package, entitled Get Along, on Warner Bros. Records on November 15^th, 2011.

Get Along is a collection of three films and a live album that offers viewers a rare and intimate look into the lives of widely celebrated songwriters, performers, and musicians Tegan and Sara Quin. The first film, States, is a 30-minute documentary that uses American touring footage and interviews with Tegan and Sara as a backdrop to illuminate their early career beginnings and unique connection with their fanbase. The second film, India, is a 25-minute documentary shot during Tegan and Sara’s first-ever tour of India, using interview footage with Tegan, Sara, and a cast of family and friends to chronicle diverse reflections on road life. The third film, For The Most Part, is a 70-minute stripped-down studio concert, shot before a live audience of 75 fans, friends, and family over two days at The Warehouse Studios in Vancouver, BC.

Get Along will come in three configurations. The first is a standard DVD/CD that includes States, India, and For The Most Part, plus an audio CD of the 15 live tracks on the DVD (see below for track-listing). The second is a Direct-to-Consumer piece that includes the three films and live concert audio, plus three signed lithographs, two digital instant grat tracks (live versions of “Back In Your Head” and “Wake Up Exhausted”) that will be delivered upon pre-order at teganandsara.com, and two digital bonus tracks (the previously unreleased “Northshore” Chuck Brody Remix and a live version of “I Bet It Stung”) that will be delivered on November 15^th. iTunes versions of Get Along will also be available via the digital retailer, with the CD component available in the Music Store and the DVD component available separately in the Movie Store.

Coming Soon: New Ra Ra Riot

August 24th marks the release date of Ra Ra Riot’s sophomore album, The Orchard. They will soon be embarking on a pretty extensive tour, including playing in Toronto at the Molson Amphitheatre with City and Colour and Tegan and Sara on August 28th. The band will also support Wintersleep during a Western Canadian tour in November. Full tour dates are on their MySpace page here.

The Orchard follows the band’s debut full-length, The Rhumb Line, which was released two years ago and hailed by such publications as Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly which called it, “worthy of a living room dance party.”

The album is now available for pre-order at Gallery AC in digital and physical formats, including a deluxe limited edition CD+DVD package with a “making of” documentary. All pre-orders of The Orchard include with a free MP3 of the albums first single, “Boy.” Pssssst…you can also get “Boy” here by entering your email address!
