Free Download: The War on Drugs – “Come to the City”

Just a few days ago, I posted the video for The War on Drugs song “Baby Missiles.” Now I’d like to share with you album centerpiece “Come to the City,” where Adam Granduciel takes things to the next level. “All roads lead to me/I’ve been moving/I’ve been drifting,” Granduciel howls and moans over its constant beat, and his epic phased Firebird guitars. It’s a modern American outsider miracle; a straight up jam – inducing fist pumps and goose bumps.

New Video: The War on Drugs – “Baby Missiles”

Click image to watch the video for "Baby Missiles"

Philadelphia’s The War On Drugs’ sophomore album of mile-high rock anthems, Slave Ambient, is due out August 16th on Secretly Canadian. We’ve shared with you the album’s instant classic, part Springsteen, part motorik anthem, “Baby Missiles,” and now you can watch that song come to life with its video. Like the song itself, and much of Slave Ambient, for that matter, the video has the same steering wheel-tapping movement, windows down, feeling the breeze on a summer day vibe.

The “Baby Missiles” video is culled and edited from The War On Drugs’ main man Adam Granduciel’s collection of super 8 film footage. The kaleidoscopic work throughout finds its raw source material in Granduciel’s experimental medium format photography, the very same exposed film featured on the artwork for Slave Ambient. The video is directed by Labour and produced by Greencard Pictures.

Lovin’ this song!

Free Download: Teleprompter – “Banshee”

“the sweat-soaked energetic feel of acts like Death From Above 1979, Les Savy Fav and early Rapture. Makes me wanna angry-dance.” –Dan Buhagiar, triple j

Teleprompter merges angular post-punk with indie rock elements, resulting in an enigmatic, no-holds-barred sound that is a departure from conventional classification. The first single from this EP is “Banshee”, produced by Yama Indra (G.L.O.V.E.S/Damn Arms). “Banshee,” as the name suggests, is a frenzied indie-punk tune with melodic vocals and catchy guitar work.

Newest Love: Caveman

Gino DePinto, AOL

Caveman is pleased to announce the digital release of their debut album CoCo Beware on September 13th, followed by the physical CD and vinyl release on November 15th. Exploding out of the New York scene over the last few months, the band has decided to get this “hot off the presses” album out as soon as possible via a digital self-release. The fans wanted it, so the fans get it — a straight-ahead ethos for a band that’s about the music FIRST.

In honor of the New York five-piece’s first release, the band has made “Old Friend” available as a free download, premiering the track with Fader Magazine this morning. Recorded and produced by Nick Stumpf (French Kicks), CoCo Beware showcases the dreamy chamber pop and multi-part harmonies that have been turning heads at the band’s live shows for the better part of a year. Leading up to the release of their debut, Caveman will also be heading out on tour with The War On Drugs, hitting the east coast, midwest and Canada before returning to New York to celebrate their album release at the Mercury Lounge on Thursday, September 15th.

Listen/download: Caveman – “Old Friend”

For Caveman, the last year and half have been a whirlwind. Formed in New York back in January of 2010, the band has gone from relative unknowns to opening for Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, White Rabbits, Here We Go Magic, Cursive, Wye Oak and Yuck in a little under a year. Listening to CoCo Beware, it’s easy to see why the band has garnered so much attention in such a short period of time. Caveman’s lush four-part harmonies, spaced-out guitars, and inventive percussion come together perfectly on the tracks “Easy Water” and “My Room.”

To get a further taste of the album, watch the quintet perform their tracks “Vampirer/Old Friend” at the Fader Fort HERE. Also, in a more public setting, Caveman run through “Decide” on FADER.tv HERE. And you can see a live version of “Easy Water” on IFC HERE.

New Track: CSS – “Hits Me Like a Rock”

“Hits Me Like A Rock” is the first single to be taken from CSS’s forthcoming new album La Liberación and features guest vocals from Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie.  The full-length album, the band’s third, is a true melding of their debut’s riotous anarchy and their sophomore album Donkey’s grungy maturity. This single is bubbling over with some serious pop energy, something the band have always had in bucketloads but now feel newly empowered to express fully and freely.

Regarding the new single, Lovefoxxx (Luísa Hanae Matsushita) elaborates “ ‘Hits Me Like A Rock’ is a song about another song.  It’s about the power of music to date our lives. You know when you listen to a song over and over again over a certain period of time and later, for a while, you simply forget that song ever existed…But then when “shuffle” chooses to use it’s power and bring back that song to you, you listen to it again and everything you’ve felt hits you ever so strong and the music becomes physical.”

Overall, La Liberación finds the band at the peak of their powers, pushing past everything that has come before into an exciting new future. “I think it’s a celebration of our friendship,” says Lovefoxxx. “I think that this album has a ‘finding your gang’ feel.”

The Shivers: “Love Is In The Air”

Queens, NY band The Shivers have released their newest album, More.

More, runs the gamut of American rock ’n’ roll, delving into everything from gritty Lou-Reed-inspired rock to the swaggering soul of Nina Simone. “Love Is In The Air” comes in about halfway through the album, and kind of serves as the record’s anchor; a slow, swaggering summer jam.
