Blue Summer LP from Cayucas

LA-duo Cayucas released their groovy new album Blue Summer on Park The Van. With the album release, the Yudin brothers have dropped a retro music video for lead single “Yeah Yeah Yeah”. The serotonin boosting, summery track debuted at #1 @ SubModern Tracks, has plays on KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic and SiriusXM Alt Nation, and was featured on Apple Music “Alternative” and “New In Indie” playlists as well as Spotify “New Music Friday” (France), “Indie Highlights”, and “Lemonade” playlists.

A return to musical roots is a time-honored tradition for many established artists who have endured for the better part of a decade.“We had this mantra: Back to the beach. That kickstarted the creative process. For the first time in a while that idea felt really fresh and exciting; let’s go back to what really worked for us as songwriters and felt special, and what was most authentic for who we are as artists,” says Zach.

What people are saying about the LP:

“pure indie-pop sunlight.” – NPR
“The surf is gnarly on this song, with groovy guitar stabs, big drums,
and sweeps crashing together to propel the track forward.” – Stereogum
” …packed full of catchy hooks and swiftly shifting melodies and rhythms, making for
an unpredictable and riveting listening experience.” – Paste Magazine
“a more refined but nonetheless infectious energy. It’s the kind of rock music
that the summer beckons… ” – Cool Hunting
“a bubbly indie pop song that promises to leave you in smiles” – Atwood Magazine
“Not since the Beach Boys has the world been treated to the level of sunshine and harmonies that appear on the indie pop band’s new track ‘Malibu ’79 Long.” – American Songwriter

Phantogram Tour Dates

Phantogram has announced their highly anticipated return today with a North American headline tour this summer, kicking off on August 16th in Reno, NV and making stops in New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and more. The full list of tour dates can be found below. Sign up to receive the pre-sale code now at phantogram.com. Presale begins tomorrow, May 14th at 10:00am local time. General on-sale tickets will be available on Friday, May 17th at 10:00am local time.

Phantogram – the New York duo of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel— has continued to change the zeitgeist for almost a decade by consistently challenging it with their signature blend of hard-hitting beats, guitar-driven dark psychedelia, and electronic pop. Since the arrival of 2010’s Barsuk Records debut release Eyelid Movies, the pair has amassed nearly half-a-billion streams, achieved two Gold-Certified singles in the form of “Fall In Love” and “When I’m Small,” headlined sold-out shows worldwide, become a festival staple, and toured with artists including The xx, Muse, M83, Alt-J and more.

Their 2016 third full-length, Three, reached career-high positions on the Billboard Top 200 chart (#9) and Billboard Top Albums Sales chart (#5), as the lead single “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore” climbed the alternative radio charts. The album was also met with critical acclaim from Pitchfork, Billboard, The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, People, Vogue, New York Magazine, The FADER, Stereogum, NYLON, PAPER and many others.

Three was completed in the wake of Barthel’s sister’s passing due to suicide, a shattering event which brought suicide prevention awareness to the forefront of the band’s consciousness and has informed their charitable giving and community outreach ever since – as they’ve done on past tours, one dollar from the purchase of each ticket to Phantogram’s upcoming headline performances will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Video: Iglomat – “King Of The Sun”

“There are deep, medicated grooves and purposefully rough patches. It’s the sort of record that reveals something different every time—circumstantial, temperamental, and yet somehow definitive.” – NME

To coincide with the release of Iglomat’s 3rd album the band have produced a new video for the track “King Of The Sun”.

“King Of The Sun” features  haunting vocal performances from Rachel Sermanni and Jennifer Austin. Rachel is one of the UK’s most respected young singer songwriters and Iglomat are thrilled that she could be involved in the album. Rachel and Jennifer contributed vocals to “King Of The Sun” and to “No Place Like Home” with Jennifer also contributing piano on the aptly named “Jen 68”.

Produced by the band the video is a portrait of loss of innocence and regret. A melancholic reflection on growing up and what it means to come to terms with the realities of life.

“He stood at the window of the empty cafe and watched the activities in the square and he said that it was good that God kept the truths of life from the young as they were starting out or else they’d have no heart to start at all.”

Help Surfer Blood guitarist Thomas Fekete Raise Money For Cancer Treatment

SB

Thomas Fekete, guitarist for Surfer Blood, is asking for everyone’s help! Visit GoFundMe to help with his treatment costs. Any little bit helps!

Statement from the band (here’s a link to the FB post) :

Surfer Blood Facebook Post/Band Statement:

Thomas has been playing guitar in Surfer Blood for nearly 6 years, but since December has been sidelined by treatment for cancer. We miss him everyday on the road but we know he is incredibly strong and we have faith in him, and in his doctors. We hope you can help with a donation of any size, and help spread the word by sharing on social media. Thank you so much for the support!

From Thomas Fekete (Surfer Blood guitarist):

Hey all,

A few months back I had a major surgery to remove a large tumor from my abdomen. I was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive cancer (a sarcoma), which unfortunately has moved. A few days ago, my doctors informed me that it had spread to my lungs and my spine.

The lesion on my lower spine will be treated with radiation, and I’ll also start chemotherapy this week. Because my cancer is so rare, there is very little research on it (cancer treatment is a business after all), so going to a typical doctor and getting loaded with all types of drugs would probably kill me. However, I found a doctor who is on the cutting edge of cancer treatments, and we have assembled a team of brilliant doctors who all seem to be extremely confident in an alternative treatment plan, to complement the chemotherapy. Because these doctors are doing things a bit differently, insurance will only cover a portion of my treatment. I never in my life thought that I would be asking for money publicly, but the universe works in funny ways.

Any bit of help would be massive for me, as I’m no longer able to tour and make a living, and my wonderful wife/best friend whom I just married in November will now be leaving work to help me throughout my treatment. If you can’t help, no worries whatsoever, all I ask is that you spread the word. Any extra funds collected when this is all said and done will be donated to further my doctor’s alternative cancer research. I not only feel great, but I am in great spirits, and I know this will soon be over like a bad dream. Please take care of yourselves, enjoy every single day. Life is beautiful. Love and light always.

-Thom

Video: Hollis Brown – “Nightfall”

Influenced by Americana and classic rock ‘n’ roll, Hollis Brown’s debut LP, Ride On The Train, is full of twangy guitars, raw vocals, and dirty guitar licks.

Newest Love: Eyes Lips Eyes

Image

OMG, you need to listen to this right now. I love it…and not just because of the use of the cowbell, either.

The foursome Eyes Lips Eyes are gearing up for the arrival of their EP, What You Want (If You Want) due out August 21 via Roll Call Records/ILG. Listen to the new song “Don’t Blow It,” streaming now at Spinner, who proclaims, “Eyes Lips Eyes are going to make your day. It’s like LCD Soundsystem and Talking Heads had a baby.”

Go Listen: Eyes Lips Eyes – “Don’t Blow It”

Co-produced by the band alongside John Goodmanson (Death Cab for Cutie, Nada Surf) and mixed by Mike Roskelly (Kaskade), the 4-song release features upbeat, hook-laden songs that recall late seventies post-punk mixed with the unbridled night out energy of The Strokes. A full-length album is in the works for release early next year.

Eyes Lips Eyes has been building a steady following since their debut project Blue Red – an ambitious year-long project that saw them self-releasing one song and a correlating video every month for 12 months. The release earned them acclaim from the likes of FILTER, Buzzbands.LA, and CNN, with the latter naming them one of their “Artists to Watch” at this year’s SXSW.

Eyes Lips Eyes was originally forged in the midst of Provo’s (Utah) dance party scene, which shaped their live show into the high-energy, garbage can-banging performances they have become known for. In a few short years, they have performed all over the country, sharing the stage with acts like Modest Mouse, Spoon, The Raconteurs and more.

In 2010 the foursome, consisting of Tony Hello (vocals), Spencer Petersen (guitar, vocals), Aaron Hatch (bass, vocals) and Thomas Carroll (drums), relocated to a warehouse in Downtown Los Angeles. Nicknamed “The Cube,” the band lives, rehearses, and records much of their work here, in true DIY fashion.
