Listen: TR/ST

“…the verses where Alfons mutters his incantations of discordant, metallic noises create a mood venomous enough to linger over the hook’s explosive synthy turn-up.” – FADER

TR/ST, is another one of those breaking Canadian acts that seems to have appeared fully-formed with a heap of brilliant, deviant, electronically infused tracks” – NOISEY

Check out the new song from Toronto based musician TR/ST. The track is entitled “Bicep” and will be part of a release due out early 2018. When talking about the track TR/ST (Robert Alfons) says, “This song and much of the album was written in isolation in a farmhouse in rural Canada. It’s about the journey of a figure — essentially a narcissist — fighting with ideas of impurity and worthlessness. It’s about the struggle between accepting and resisting shame, as well as an expression of sexual fantasies.”

After years of extensive touring, and garnering glowing praise from top international critics at Pitchfork, VICE, and The Guardian UK for the 2012 Juno-nominated debut album TRST, the follow-up album Joyland is out now on Arts & Crafts. Joyland is an eruption of guts, eels, and joy.

Newest Love: Zulu Winter – “We Should Be Swimming”

“…music that shimmers like a sky full of fireworks” NME

catchy and anthemic indie-dance” – The Guardian

UK reverby rockers” – BrooklynVegan

Perseverance and dedication are two things that the members of Zulu Winter are very familiar with. The four guys from Oxfordshire, England came together in their teens over a shared love of music and have been collaborating ever since. Now, twelve years after their first practice as a band, Zulu Winter is gearing up to release Language, a debut album that has the immediate appeal of pop while at the same time packed with emotional insight. Inspired by everything from 19th century literature to obscure ‘60s electronica, Language will be released in North America on June 19th via Arts & Crafts.

Language is a collection of multi-dimensional songs that bleed with sentiment and syncopated dance beats. The album opens with “Key To My Heart,” a sincere message of love that showcases the depth and richness of the band’s sound with layers of swirling instrumentation. The upbeat “Silver Tongue” is driven by an energetic bass line that leads to a danceable chorus. “Bitter Moon” is an emotionally charged track hinged on a powerful chorus, inviting listeners to experience a vulnerable side of the band. “We Should Be Swimming” is a melancholic pop-song running over a compelling rhythm. Zulu Winter released a chilling video for the track, and today they have released the song as a free MP3 download.

You Can Dance

Whether you know it or not, you know Chilly Gonzales. You’ve for sure seen and heard the commercials for the iPad with that catchy piano tune. The song is called “Never Stop,” and yup, that’s him.

Chilly Gonzales, the notorious (and always brilliant) producer/rapper/world-class pianist is already on a roll in 2011. Check out the Gemini Club remix of “You Can Dance,” which RCRD LBL premiered – head over there for the free download!

Chilly Gonzales – “You Can Dance” (Gemini Club Remix)

Also unleashed last week was the video for “You Can Dance,” which is already over 250,000 views (if you’ve seen it, you know why! Let’s just say T&A). The single, available digitally, features several remixes, including a stellar cut from nineteen-year old blog sensation Robotaki. Other remixes come courtesy of Shadow Dancer, Max Tundra, Edwin Van Cleef,
Cosmonaut Grechko and Popular Computer.

Gonzales is also known as a super-producer of sorts, working with a wide array of artists. Best known for his production work with Feist (whose album The Reminder earned him a Grammy nomination), Peaches and Jamie Lidell, he has more recently worked with Marina & the Diamonds and Tiga…not to mention older collaborations with Bjork and Daft Punk.
