MISSIO – 3 part docu-series: Skeletons

RCA recording artists MISSIO has announced the long-awaited premiere of a powerful new visual accompanying their latest single, “Bottom Of The Deep Blue Sea.” Directed by Evan Spencer Brace (Phantagram, Tiësto), the clip marks the latest visual accompanying tracks featured on MISSIO’s acclaimed full-length debut, LONER, available now at all digital music retailers and streaming services.

In addition, we will see the arrival of Skeletons, an exclusive new docu-series chronicling MISSIO’s remarkable story thus far. The first installment of the three-part film – directed by longtime MISSIO collaborator Jeff Ray (Sigur Rós) – premieres today at MISSIO’s official YouTube channel.

LONER has proven one of the year’s most significant debuts, highlighted of course by MISSIO’s breakthrough single, “Middle Fingers,” available now at all DSPs and streaming services. Released at the top of 2017, “Middle Fingers” quickly blew up at SiriusXM’s Alt Nation where it ascended to #1 in the influential “Alt-18 Countdown” before ultimately reaching the top 10 on Billboard‘s “Alternative Songs” chart as well as the top 20 across Billboard‘s “Mainstream Rock Songs,” “Hot Rock Songs,” and “Rock Airplay” charts. “Middle Fingers” is joined an equally popular companion video, now boasting nearly 5 million individual views via YouTube alone.

LONER – which also features such dynamic tracks as “Everybody Gets High” and ” KDV (Ft. SHUG),” – has drawn critical acclaim to match its popular success. “Loaded with bruising bass, icy synths and dark imagery,” raved Rolling Stone, “LONER is an exploration of (vocalist-producer Matthew) Brue’s winding road to sobriety.” “LONER implies a sense of woke with every song,” declared Earbuddy. “Through the power of music, good will prevail.”

MISSIO was founded in 2014 as a new sonic outlet for Colorado-born musician Matthew Brue and Houston, TX native David Butler, the two musicians teaming up to create something unlike anything either had done before. The duo’s widescreen amalgam of inventive production technique, lyrical wit, and endlessly insistent pop hooks instantly proved a sensation with “I Don’t Even Care About You” – featured on 2015’s debut   – rising to #7 on Spotify’s “Viral 50-Global” chart after first appearing on the automated “Fresh Finds” playlist.

The MISSIO EP was followed by “Can I Exist,” featured in a truly extraordinary companion video that earned such prizes as “Best Video” at 2016’s Austin Music Video Festival and the “Audience Award” at 2016’s New Orleans Film Festival. MISSIO’s remarkably cinematic sonic approach also earned them placement on a variety of soundtracks, including MTV’s Scream and Finding Carter, Oxygen’s Bad Girls Club, and Victoria’s Secret’s short film (and biggest lingerie shoot in history), Victoria’s Secret Holiday 2016: A Very Private Affair.

More than simply a studio project from the very start, MISSIO made a number of live appearances following their inception, including a much-discussed debut at 2015’s South By Southwest (SXSW). The duo followed up with a series of national treks, among them K. Flay’s sold-out “Crush Me Tour.”

Multiplatinum GRAMMY® Award-winning recording star Lorde will curate the soundtrack album for the upcoming third installment of the global blockbuster The Hunger Games franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.  In addition to hand-picking the artists for The Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack, Lorde will provide the first single for the highly anticipated film and album. The soundtrack will be available via Republic Records this fall.

The 17-year-old New Zealand native –who will embark on her third national North American tour this fall– exploded onto the scene with her Number One global hit “Royals,” and has taken the music world by storm since the release of her critically acclaimed platinum debut album Pure Heroine.

Her quadruple platinum selling single “Royals” helped earn two Billboard Music Awards for ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best Rock Song,’ and two GRAMMY® Awards for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Pop Solo Performance.’ She currently holds the record for ‘Longest #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by a Female Artist in 2013’ and longest standing #1 for any female artist in the Billboard Alternative Chart history.

“Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance,” said Lorde.  “The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson, is the latest installment in Lionsgate’s global box office phenomenon based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling “Hunger Games” trilogy and will be released in theaters worldwide on November 21, 2014.

In other news, 17 year old Ella Yelich-O’Connor was recently nominated for two Video Music Awards for her debut single and accompanying video “Royals”, placing her in the “Best Rock Video” category amongst Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys, Imagine Dragons and Linkin Park, and in the “Best Female Video” category alongside Ariana, Beyonce, Iggy Azalea, and Katy Perry.

Lorde will be performing at this years Lollapalooza Festival on Friday, August 1st on the Bud Light Stage at 6:45PM and will be embarking on her third national North American tour on September, 5th in Philadelphia (dates below).
