Young Rivals

Listen/download: Night Drive – “Young Rivals” (Off Da Clock Remix)

“Off Da Clock puts a dancier spin on the original in the style of Bit Funk and Treasure Fingers.” – Discobelle
As 2014 comes to a close, freshly minted label, Sound Control Records, wraps up it’s release cycle for “Young Rivals,” the latest single from Austin/Houston based synth duo, Night Drive. The pair, Rodney Connell and Brandon Duhon, reached new heights with their latest offering, securing premieres on Noisey, Idolator and tapping New York sweethearts, ASTR, for the official remix and teaming up with Austin’s Lobo Sucio Creative and Mark Roethke for a Kubrick 2001 meets Barbarella esque video.

Now, Night Drive and Sound Control Records are excited to present the latest remix of “Young Rivals” from burgeoning, Austin based producer, Off Da Clock. Taking steady aim at the club, Off Da Clock (nee` Chris Cortinas) injects some serious, pumping drums, jaunty guitar riffs and euphoric arpeggios to create a blissful rework poised to damage many a dance floor.

Listen: The Knocks – “Classic” (feat. Powers)

“…a straight up summer smash, the kind of dance track that hangs in an era-less vacuum; the kind of tune makes you feel like you’re in a movie montage, that begins in the hazy magic hour and splices together every amazing moment till dawn.” VICE’s Noisey
“…the pair lands a sound timeless enough to conjure, via those perky guitar licks, catchiness ranging from modern Daft Punk, to old-school Sugar Ray, to that Len song, ‘Steal My Sunshine.’”
SPIN

NYC’s The Knocks are a distinctly 21st century duo, declared by NME as one of the “20 hottest producers in music” & by The Guardian as “cred-pop’s answers to The Neptunes.” Now one of the most buzzed-about duos on the electronic circuit, the blog world darlings recently announced the release of their debut full-length album, Endisco – set to drop October 7th. Endisco will feature collaborations with a wide range of superstar talent, including St. Lucia, Wes Miles (Ra Ra Riot), Adeline Michele (Escort), X Ambassadors, Sneaky Sound System & more.

Endisco album single “Classic” ft. Powers is a funk-infused dance anthem punctuated with The Knocks’ signature party-starting guitar loops, infectious keys & sultry vocals- the consummate summer anthem.

Having spent the last three years jet-setting around the globe for DJ gig, sharing stages with Grouplove, M.I.A., Chromeo & others, the duo will be on the road once again this summer- taking their ecstatic live show to college towns across the country as well as stints at New York’s Full Moon & Montreal’s ÎleSoniq festivals.

The Knocks consists of B-Roc & J-Patt, who moved in together after dropping out of music school in NYC. J-Patt’s background in soul & funk, and B-Roc’s years spent immersed in trip-hop & hip-hop beats, has allowed them to quickly ascend the production ranks. Initially gaining recognition for their remixes for artists including HAIM, Santigold, Foster the People, Two Door Cinema Club, Ellie Goulding & more, they eventually found themselves experimenting with sounds of their own. The guys didn’t think much would come of a nearly five-minute track they’d been building, all tense beats & tingling synths: “it kind of started out as a joke,” stated B-Roc. “But people were liking that more than the stuff we produced for other people. It felt right.” The duo quickly discovered a newfound freedom in creating their own songs: “it’s better because it’s our own, and we can do whatever we want with it,” explained J-Patt.

Video: RAC (ft. Matthew Koma) – “Cheap Sunglasses”

Acclaimed remixer/artist RAC (aka André Allen Anjos) releases the video for his new single “Cheap Sunglasses” FT. Matthew Koma . The video reteams RAC with director/producer Michael Dwyer who also shot and produced RAC’s video for his first single “Let Go”.  Shot in Southern California, “Cheap Sunglasses” is the first RAC video to feature his full touring band and featured vocalist Matthew Koma (who along with RAC co-wrote the song which hit the #1 top spot on Hype Machine earlier this summer).

“After working with Michael Dwyer on the “Let Go” music video, it was really great to get in front of the camera again for “Cheap Sunglasses.”  We had a blast and I got to have the whole band with me” says RAC.

RAC is the mastermind behind some of the most memorable remixes of recent years, giving the world new takes on tracks by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lana Del Rey, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, and many more.  RAC’s remixes have reached #1 on the Hype Machine charts 31 times and his first solo recording, “Hollywood,” featuring Penguin Prison hit #1 on all four Hype Machine charts at once while his tracks have over 25million plays on Soundcloud.  Originally born and raised in Portugal, RAC settled in Portland, Oregon, where he began to forge his unique brand of indie-pop culminating with the release of his debut album Strangers (out now) on Cherrytree Records.  André co-wrote and produced every song on Strangers, which features an impressive array of guests including, Alex Ebert (of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and 2014 Golden Globe winner for Best Original Score) Tegan & Sara, Penguin Prison, Tokyo Police Club, Cherrytree recording artist Matthew Koma, Katie Herzig, along with Bloc Party’s Kele and electro-pop artist  MNDR.  Fresh off his Strangers Live World Tour,  RAC will perform live at Lollapalooza on August 3rd  and upcoming festival dates including Loufest in St. Louis and Life Is beautiful in Las Vegas.

Listen: Night Drive – After Dark Remixes

nightdrive

“Together they’ve produced some tracks that resonate with the glam that penetrated their ears.” –Prefix Magazine

“Almost as hypnotizing as a full moon, the song’s subtle vocals and vacillating beat take the night.” – MTV Iggy

After success of their stunning video for “After Dark,” Night Drive continues riding high on their musical journey. Night Drive and The Penelopes have been eager to work with one another for quite sometime and decided to do so via a remix swap. The french duo pulls no punches with this dark and sultry, disco reinterpretation. Keep your eyes open for Night Drive’s remix of The Penelopes, due out later this Spring.

Fellow Austin and Houston artists, Orthy and Bagheera, produced two excellent remixes of “After Dark”. Since Night Drive, Orthy and Bagheera are all part of the Red Bull Sound Select family, RBSS will be releasing the After Dark EP for free in select record stores. Look for that later this month.

For now, you can listen to the After Dark Remixes over at Prefix Mag — click here to check it out now!

New Shizz From French Horn Rebellion

French Horn Rebellion has released their latest EP, The Fire. The EP features alternate versions of the title track “The Fire”, which is a collaboration with Savoir Adore. The two bands, related by marriage for the last few years, have finally collaborated to keep you warm all season long. Make like David of FHR and Deidre of Savoir Adore and cuddle up under the disco ball, dancing the night away.  Winter is here. As the snow falls and icicles form we need to keep a fire in our hearts. We pack into cozy bars to get warm and dance by the firelight to remember we’re alive. In “The Fire”, Savoir Adore’s forest fantasy pop blends with French Horn Rebellion’s hot dancefloor beats.

Listen: French Horn Rebellion & Savoir Adore – The Fire (Rubber Ross Remix)

Robert from FHR said the following about the “Beaches & Friends” video:

“As we were watching HBO’s Girls on our couches, hearing our song ‘Beaches and Friends’ from 2009, we suddenly came to think about that long lost music video we did…. And so we went searching for it. This never came out because we made a decision to release a video for ‘The Twelves Remix’ of the song instead, so this one was put on the shelf. We hope you enjoy watching our younger 2009 versions, as much as we are (and laughing a lot at David’s conquistador ‘stache)!”

The album’s Jimmy Edgar remix was premiered via Rolling Stone. “Jimmy Edgar is one of my favorite producers right now,” Ridha tells Rolling Stone. “On his remix he took the funk essence of the original and flipped it to a darker but club-friendlier banger. So killer!”.

In the past year, Boys Noize has toured the US, Europe, Asia, Australia and South Africa with his signature SKULL, and performed headline shows at ULTRA, Bonnaroo, HARD Summer and HARD Day Of The Dead. In addition to releasing the GO HARD EP last June, Boys Noize teamed up with Skrillex this year to form the new group Dog Blood and lit up Coachella, Lollapalooza, Electric Zoo and HARD Summer with an electrifying live show. Entertainment Weekly described the Dog Blood debut at Coachella as “the world’s most joyous Satanic ritual. It was mystifying but fascinating—the Sahara Tent became its own congregation complete with everything but the swinging incense.” In September 2013 Dog Blood released the Middle Finger Part II EP.

Download: Ghost Beach – “Miracle” (DallasK Remix)

GB_Press_Photo_1_LO

Brooklyn-based duo Ghost Beach release Miracle (Remixes) EP via Nettwerk Records today. Formed in 2012, the duo of Josh Ocean and Eric “Doc” Mendelsohn have perfected a blend of retro and futuristic soaring synth pop that can best be described as Tropical Grit Pop.

Miracle (Remixes) EP will include the album version, as well as several remixes of the title track by Le Youth, DallasK and Nathan C. East coast meets west coast when Los Angeles-based Le Youth does a funky disco remix of “Miracle.” Nathan C remixes the track into a driving progressive house track while Dallas K takes the synth-heavy route, pairing lush saw sounds with guitars. Download the “Miracle” (DallasK Remix) below and listen to the Miracle (Remixes) EP HERE.

With their self-titled debut EP and follow-up EP Modern Tongues, Ghost Beach has set the Internet ablaze with consistent number ones on Hype Machine. With upbeat anthems and a preference for ’80s synth, the band left their mark at this year’s SXSW, and have played shows alongside artists including Robert DeLong, The 1975, The Neighbourhood, Imagine Dragons, St. Lucia and Youngblood Hawke.
