New Track: Atlas Genius – “If So”

275

Atlas Genius will celebrate the February 19th release of its debut album, When It Was Now (Warner Bros. Records), with an appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” The band will perform the album’s first single, “Trojans”.

On their new track “If So,” Atlas Genius groove with dream-like guitar licks, shifty hi-hats and a meaty bass backbone,” said Rolling Stone.

Atlas Genius’ Keith and Michael Jeffery wrote, recorded and produced When It Was Now at a studio they built in their hometown of Adelaide, Australia. The album captures Atlas Genius’s singular combination of sophisticated musicality and warm, wistful spirit. Infused with a classic sensibility, each of the songs would fit seamlessly if somehow slipped into a long-treasured mixtape.

The  band will kick off a sold-out tour with Imagine Dragons this Friday,  February 8th, at The Marquee in Tempe, AZ. On February 20th, Atlas  Genius will play a record release show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg  in Brooklyn, NY and appear at SXSW on March 13th (KCRW’s Official SXSW  nighttime showcase) and 14th.  Tickets just went on sale for Atlas  Genius’ first North American headline tour, which launches on April 25th  at Antone’s in Austin, TX. See the band’s website for more details and more tour stops.

Brand New: Santigold – “Disparate Youth”

The wait for the Santigold’s album, Master of My Make Believe, is almost over! Today she releases the first official single, “Disparate Youth.” Produced by Santigold and Ricky Blaze, the track is a contemporary rebel song with a new spin on punk & reggae that underscores its message of pushing through all roadblocks and claim “a life worth fighting for.”

Last month Santigold released the video and MP3 for “Big Mouth” to great acclaim. Santi calls out all trash-talkers on “Big Mouth,” with a schoolyard taunt melody backed by an explosive carnival beat that will shake the streets from Bed-Stuy to Baja. The track was produced by Switch and Buraka Som Systema and is available for free download at www.santigold.com. If you’re heading to SXSW this year, be sure not to miss her there!

Highly Anticipated: Poolside

This early taste from Poolside’s debut album (due in 2012) is this gorgeous, thumping slice of anthemic disco-pop. Poolside’s Filip and Jeff filmed this video during a wilderness excursion into the legendary Red Rock landscape of Sedona, Arizona. LOVE.

Highly Anticipated: New Album From The Rapture

The Rapture have announced the release details for their long awaited third album In The Grace Of Your Love on September 6th through DFA Records.

The release of In The Grace Of Your Love marks the dawn of a new chapter in the bands history and a welcome return to DFA Records, having re-signed with the label that released some of their most acclaimed early singles, and whose founders James Murphy & Tim Goldsworthy produced their debut album Echoes. This an exciting release for the DFA familiy who will also be celebrating that same month the iconic label’s 10th Anniversary.

Together with French producer Philippe Zdar (Phoenix, Beastie Boys, Chromeo) they have crafted and shaped a bold & euphoric album that sounds definitively & distinctly like The Rapture and no one else. Through the course of its eleven tracks, you can immerse yourself as waves of lyrical optimism & introspection crash between angular guitars & pulsing synthesizers, pounding drums & into sweet rhythmical lullabies. This is the sound of The Rapture re-engaged and revitalized with a voice as clear as they ever had.

The full tracklisting is as follows:

In The Grace Of Your Love

1) Sail Away
2) Miss You
3) Blue Bird
4) Come Back to Me
5) In the Grace of Your Love
6) Never Gonna Die Again
7) Roller Coaster
8) Children
9) Can You Find a Way?
10) How Deep Is Your Love?
11) It Takes Time to Be a Man

The Rapture are Gabriel Andruzzi, Luke Jenner & Vito Roccoforte

Stay tuned for US tour dates!

Whoa, whoa, wait…what?!

I have just learned via Pitchfork of a new highly anticipated album due out next year. It’s from a new group called Mister Heavenly that consists of…wait for it…

Nick Thorburn (frontman of Islands)

Joe Plummer (drummer of Modest Mouse)

and main Man Man man Honus Honus

From Pitchfork:

Talking to Spinner recently, Honus Honus said that the new band would occupy some aesthetic middle ground between his own work and Thorburn’s: “It actually sounds like a mash-up of our two styles. For the Man Man stuff, if you like our doo-wop-y stuff, ‘Doo Right’ or ‘Ice Dogs,’ that vein. If you like what Nick does, the stripped-down pop stuff and the Unicorns stuff, it’s like that.” A press release gives that style a name: “doom-wop”. We’ll have to see if the term catches on.

Tonight, the band heads out a small tour opening for Passion Pit. Their last show has them headlining in Salt Lake City!

11-30 Seattle, WA – Moore Theatre
12-01 Portland, OR – Crystal Ballroom
12-02 San Francisco, CA – Cafe Du Nord
12-03 Santa Cruz, CA – Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium
12-04 Pomona, CA – The Fox Theatre
12-05 San Diego, CA – Soma
12-07 Los Angeles, CA – Hollywood Palladium
12-08 Santa Barbara, CA – The Granada Theater
12-09 Las Vegas, NV – House of Blues
12-10 Salt Lake City, UT – Kirby Court

Highly Anticipated: Hot Hot Heat

The new Hot Hot Heat album Future Breeds will be out June 8 through Dangerbird Records.

The band’s fourth album is a call to action. After leaving their previous label, the foursome stripped away all the unnecessary elements in their lives, built their own studio in Vancouver, and emerged renewed and recharged. The resulting record is at once propulsive and volcanic, and fueled, as ever, by candy-coated melodies that hurl you through Bays’ lyrical world.

Over the years, the Canadian band has delivered their kinetic brand of rock and roll live to thousands, toured the world with bands such as Modest Mouse, Kings Of Leon, The Walkmen and Queens of the Stone Age, and released several albums, garnering praise from everyone from Pitchfork to Rolling Stone and Spin who described their sound as “aggressively exuberant funk-punk.”

Here’s the tracklist for all to see:

1. YVR
2. 21@12
3. Times A Thousand
4. Implosionatic
5. Goddess On The Prairie
6. Zero Results
7. Future Breeds
8. JFK’s LSD
9. Jedidiah
10. Buzinezz Az Uzual
11. What Is Rational?
12. Nobody’s Accusing You (Of Having A Good Time)
