Nobody Beats the Drum

After a successful run in March, Dutch electro trio NOBODY BEATS THE DRUM prepares to once again invade the US for the summer festival circuit and select headline shows. Vice/HP’s Creators Project reported “The lively electronic trio garnered tremendous reception from fresh crowds at both SXSW and Ultra Music Festival”, claiming them to be, “Amsterdam’s most mind-altering export.”

NOBODY BEATS THE DRUM is production duo Sjam Sjamsoedin, Jori Collignon, and visual artist/video director Rogier van der Zwaag. Starting May 12, they embark on an 8 week tour that will stretch 12,000 miles of the US and Canadian landscape, with few cities missing out on the group’s mix of hypnotic beats and multi-genre blending live sets. This tour will also see the US debut of the group’s nine screen live projection system known as the Telenovem Automaton 333″, aptly named for its captivating visual experience spanning 333 inches in diameter.

Along the tour at festivals like The Hangout, Sasquatch, Wakarusa, Spring Awakening, Governors Ball, Electric Forest, Montreal International Jazz Fest, Quebec City Summer Fest, and Camp Bisco, NOBODY BEATS THE DRUM will perform along with electro heavyweights like Skrillex, A-Trak, Diplo, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Thievery Corporation and more. Additional shows of note include headliners at LA’s Dim Mak Live, Belly Up Aspen, and Bassmentality Toronto, with supporting slots to Skrillex and Wolfgang Gartner in Canada. Come out to a show and find out why Consequence of Sound calls the band “The future of Dutch dance music”.

Psychadelic Rock Trio Capsula Touring This Month

Capsula’s ripping set will feature songs from the critically acclaimed sophomore album and sonic masterpiece, In The Land of Silver Souls (Krian Music Group) that has been garnering nationwide praise from media and fans alike. Their music roars with a combination of garage rock toughness and modern style that have earned them a wide range of comparisons from The Stooges and The Pixies to Sonic Youth and David Bowie.

Their first single “Hit ‘n’ Miss” kicks off with a classic garage rock riff, before Martin rips into a Bowie-esque tale about the rise and fall of those seeking fast stardom in the big city.

“The album’s single, “Hit ‘N’ Miss,” resonates like a distant cousin to David Bowie’s “Suffragette City,” featuring a chorus that should have you singing along fairly quickly.” – RCRD LBL

“Listeners who have been hankering for a satisfying set of down and dirty rock and roll basics, served up with energy and panache, will find their dreams answered. Party on, Garth.” – PopMatters

Witnessing Capsula live is an experience not easily forgotten, as they tear though blistering washes of guitar and pounding rhythms delivered with the true essence of punk rock attitude.

Capsula continues to prove that rock and roll is definitely a universal language. You don’t have to understand every lyric of a Capsula song to capture the unbound emotion of their dirty rock.

Capsula US Tour Dates:

5/23         Highline Ballroom in New York, NY

5/24         Howard Theater in Washington, DC

5/25         Level Room in Philadelphia, PA

5/26         31st Street Pub in Pittsburgh, PA

It Wasn’t an Accident

Cover from self-titled debut album
Cover from self-titled debut album

“Will disappear into the horizon in the blink of an eye, leaving your panoramic ocean view fathomless and without object.” That is the last sentence in the description on last.fm for The Accident That Led Me To The World. That one sentence sums up their entire persona.

Sometimes we need to be reminded that being a musician takes more than being able to pick out cool beats and mix ’em all up. Mark Mandeville, Raianne Richards, and Zack Ciras can show you all about being musicians. Just listening to their melodies forces you (in a good way) to remember and appreciate the skills necessary in making music.

It’s impossible to get bored by their sounds because of how many instruments they play. They’ve got guitars, bass, a banjo, and clarinet. Not to mention their voices themselves.

They’re a folk music trio from Massachutsetts, and they’re coming this way! They’ll be here in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, February 18th, playing at the Morning Glory Coffeehouse. (I’ve added the event onto their page on last.fm that you can find here.)

If you love listening to music in a relaxed, intellectual setting with like-minded people, you should definitely come to the show. Even if you don’t go to relaxed settings to listen to ‘quieter’ music often, you should still come to this show. It’s a Wednesday people, save your fist-pumping drum-blaring jams for the weekend! (ha!) Show these guys how awesome Pittsburgh is!
