2012 Winter Music Conference

Winter Music Conference (WMC) opened its 2012 season in South Florida today with the announcement of the Winter Music Conference 2012 dates. This will be the 27th annual program for what is largely regarded as the pre-eminent platform on the global music industry calendar for launching new music, technology and trends. Winter Music Conference Week 2012 happens March 16 – 25, 2012 in Miami Beach, Florida.

For 2012, WMC plans to further enhance the WMC experience by delivering ten non-stop days of music programming in Miami Beach and Miami. This expansion will wrap the program week with two full weekends of parties and events. WMC Co-founder, Bill Kelly, explains, “Expanding the WMC dates was an easy decision given the high demand of artists, businesses and industry delegates. Miami Beach and the greater Miami area boast some of the most celebrated event and club venues as well as the hotels and resorts that comprise South Beach’s famed Art Deco District. Hotels, restaurants, cafes, shops and every sort of possible entertainment venue are filled to capacity during WMC Week to the point where five days just wasn’t enough.”

Here’s what I’m quite excited about:

New for 2012, WMC will be unveiling correlated segments of its industry program dedicated to music and fashion on its opening weekend and indie rock meets electronica programming under the WMC Rocks header on the closing weekend, in addition to its standard programming and events.

Event: Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements

YAY! School of Seven Bells, Dan Deacon and Fool's Gold are part of the musical entertainment line-up!!!

The inaugural Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements is to be held at Chicago’s Eckhart Park from September 16-18, 2011. It’s a playground for adults and children, alike!

The ability to let oneself go and be enthralled by a Brilliant moment of entertainment and spectacle is at the heart of human experience. At every corner of the globe people come together to enjoy both the most Popular and also obscure ways of human Amusements. Some might say that Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements hopes to reinvent the traditions of Vaudeville for a 21st century audience – a live mash up of art forms and entertainment under one umbrella. Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusement’s ultimate goal is to create a distinct environment that allows a wide audience to be entertained with the most creative ideas and performers regardless of genre. As a production, the event has no stylistic boundaries, it can incorporate circus artists, music, comedians, short film, carnival rides, games and hopefully more. Additionally it is not wedded to a festival, time or place. It may pop up in your neighborhood park, at a nearby theater for one night, or just parading down your block.

Access to the event grounds will be free and open to the public, where patrons can enjoy carnival games, rides, an outdoor music stage and sideshows. The renowned Renegade Craft Fair and a hand selected farmers’ market will also be part of the affair. For select ticketed shows, two large big top circus tents will feature performances from a variety of musical acts, circus performers and audiovisual experimentation.

Brilliant Corners of Popular Amusements is the brainchild of musician/presenter Mike Reed who has been an integral part of the programming for the Umbrella Music Collective, The Chicago Jazz Festival and New Music Mondays: Downtown Sound at Millennium Park.
