Warner Bros. Records + Threadless Invites Artists and Fans to Design Band Merchandise

flaminglips

Warner Bros. Records is joining forces with Threadless, the community-driven design company, to produce band merchandise created by independent artists for some of the label’s most popular musical artists. In an ongoing collaboration between the two brands, Threadless will host design challenges for Warner Bros. talent, inviting the global Threadless artist community of 2.5 million members to design and vote on t-shirts and other products inspired by the music of each artist.

“This partnership with Warner Bros. is an incredible opportunity for the artists on Threadless,” said Threadless Founder and CEO Jake Nickell. “Music is a powerful source of inspiration, and we’re honored to be working with a label that has supported great music for so many years. This ongoing partnership will help to further Threadless’ goal of providing independent artists with new and creative outlets for their art, while providing musical artists on Warner Bros. Records with some incredible artwork for their merchandise.”

The initial design challenge for this new partnership, launched May 13, features The Flaming Lips, a band famous for their commitment to creative innovation and ultra-extravagant live performances. “The Flaming Lips are the perfect band to kick off this partnership,” said Nickell. “Their eclectic, arty image and fearless creativity fit perfectly with the Threadless community’s aesthetic diversity. We expect to receive some of the craziest, most whacked out submissions we’ve ever seen!”

Submissions to the challenge will be open from May 13 to June 3 at threadless.com/theflaminglips. Fans can continue to vote on which designs should be made into t-shirts through June 10. One grand prize winner will receive $5,000 cash, a $500 Threadless gift certificate, 2 tickets to an upcoming North American Flaming Lips show, the Record Store Day exclusive release of Zaireeka 4-LP vinyl box set, a signed CD copy of The Terror, and a double-LP vinyl copy of The Terror. Other top designs will also be sold on Threadless.com and beyond.

The winning design won’t be chosen until voting closes on June 10, but customers can pre-order the winning tee now at threadless.com/theflaminglips/presale. From now until June 30, 2013, $10 from the sale of each tee will go to the American Red Cross to benefit those most affected by the Oklahoma tornado of May 20, 2013.

The Grammy award-winning Lips are touring the world now in support of their 13th studio album, The Terror, released on April 16. As always, THE LIPS continue to command critical accolades:

“The Flaming Lips have been on one of the most remarkable creative streaks of any band, let alone a band that’s been-this is their 30th anniversary, they started in 1983. They are at the peak of their creative career right now at a point when other bands long ago would have hung it up. This band is amazing and they continue to impress just when I think they can’t impress anymore.” – NPR.Org

Video: Martin Solveig – “Hey Now”

Martin Solveig returns to the spotlight with yet another masterful slice of musical and video genius, bursting at the seams with all the essential ingredients you’d expect from one of France’s most prolific, hard working and diverse exports.

Following the inescapable hysteria that was “Hello” – with over 1.2 million copies sold in the US to date – and the ensuing “SMASH” album and video series, this latest offering is gathering pace at an unprecedented rate. “Hey Now” – out now on Big Beat Records – is the first of several collaborations Solveig has lined up for 2013, as he takes a more experimental approach to making and delivering the music and videos he is oh so famous for. Smattered with that Solveig pop frivolity and fun factor we’ve all grown to love, lashings of big bass, synth, Solveig wizardry and that all-important ‘hum-along’ factor, “Hey Now” the record and indeed video has it all!

Having already received huge support from DJs (David Guetta, Diplo, Madeon, Kaskade, Bingo players and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike to name just a few) and radio shows across the world, Martin’s unique take on unadulterated fun is showing all the right signs of becoming a must-have track for the impending summer. Combining his own trademark sounds with those from The Cataracs and new kid on the block Kyle, this release has all the hallmarks of a bona fide Martin Solveig smash.

With remixes already in from the likes of Carnage and Laidback Luke, and with further edits from Lemâitre and Tommie Sunshine to come – there’s sure to be something for everyone. The single and video is out on right now with exclusive remix package to follow over the coming weeks.

Martin Solveig North America Tour Dates:

May 29 – NYC @ Marquee
May 31 – San Francisco @ Ruby Skye
June 1- Las Vegas @ Encore Beach Club
June 1 – Las Vegas @ XS
July 11 – Quebec City @ Festival D’ete De Quebec
July 12 – Los Angeles @ Avalon
Aug 30 – NYC @ Electric Zoo

Video: Caveman – “In The City”

Caveman has released their first music video off their sophomore album for the track “In The City”. Director Philip Di Fiore made a thrilling portrait of a tourist couple visiting New York City for the first time. Check out the video to see what happens when the couple, played by Julia Stiles and Fran Kranz, discover what lies underneath the surface of the playground of the city…

Caveman released their first album in 2011. As first albums go, CoCo Beware was something akin to a moody statement of intent, a blueprint for a band quickly learning how to create horizon-wide rock songs that were equal parts intimate and expansive. Initially self-released and later snatched up by Fat Possum for re-release in early 2012, the record brims over with four-part harmonies, crystalline guitar lines, and tracks that see-sawed between echoey lullaby (“A Country’s King of Dreams”) to shoegaze-by-way-of classic-FM-radio sprawl (“Old Friend”). The album quickly elevated Caveman from local band to watch to a sizable touring draw and formidable live act, as evidenced by stints on the road with the likes of The War on Drugs, White Rabbits and Built to Spill. Despite being the work of a brand new band, CoCo Beware displayed a kind of Zen-like ease. It was the sound a five friends settling into a nice groove; the music that happens when, for whatever reason, a lot of seemingly disparate elements finally fall into place.

The guitars on Caveman are bigger and more expansive, the rhythm section is tighter and more adventurous, the keyboards more opaque and pronounced. Like a marriage between Tangerine Dream, late period Slowdive, and Lindsey Buckingham, tracks like their new single “In the City” and “Ankles” boast synth lines that sound simultaneously retro and futuristic, while “Pricey” and “Never Want to Know” overflow with guitar sounds that could have miraculously floated off an old Cure album. It should be noted that James Carbonetti, the band’s primary guitar player, also happens to be one of the most highly regarded guitar makers in New York City.

New Remix From The Chainsmokers + Free Download

sayloulourmx
Check out The Chainsmokers remix of Say Lou Lou’s “Julian”.

The duo says, “We first heard the song “Julian” from Say Lou Lou and immediately fell in love with their haunting vocals and cool vibes, like Nervo meets Tegan and Sara, but we felt, underneath the grungy yet sexy vocals there was room for a really beautiful uptempo Indie Progressive song. We always preach about trying to make music that is a beautiful blend of pop, indie and progressive, which isn’t always possible, but we feel like this time, we did. Each of those genre to us represent some of music’s most important provisions, emotion, energy, dance and the ability to appeal to many.”

!!! Video + Contest

chk

!!! have just released their fifth full length album THR!!!ER and are hitting the road starting today for a month long US tour. Guest vocalist Sonia Moore (of “2 Legit 2 Quit” fame) will not be joining, so the band is going to choose one fan per city to come up on stage and sing along.

Sing With Chk Contest – Note from the band:

Come on, admit it. You’ve dreamed about singing with !!!. Only a few of us have been able to live that dream but now you can too. We’re not bringing Sonia Moore, the singer from One Girl/One Boy, so we want you to come up and sing w/ us when we hit your town.

Upload a youtube video of you singing along or send an mp3 to singwithchk@gmail.com. No big deal, just you in front of the mirror singing into the hairbrush style will do. We’ll sift through the entries and holler at you if you’ve got what it takes. You’ll of course be judged on your vocal ability, but dance moves and star quality definitely help. If anything, it’s a free ticket for you and your bff for the show. No flakes, no egos, no drug problems.
