Video: RAC (ft. Matthew Koma) – “Cheap Sunglasses”

Acclaimed remixer/artist RAC (aka André Allen Anjos) releases the video for his new single “Cheap Sunglasses” FT. Matthew Koma . The video reteams RAC with director/producer Michael Dwyer who also shot and produced RAC’s video for his first single “Let Go”.  Shot in Southern California, “Cheap Sunglasses” is the first RAC video to feature his full touring band and featured vocalist Matthew Koma (who along with RAC co-wrote the song which hit the #1 top spot on Hype Machine earlier this summer).

“After working with Michael Dwyer on the “Let Go” music video, it was really great to get in front of the camera again for “Cheap Sunglasses.”  We had a blast and I got to have the whole band with me” says RAC.

RAC is the mastermind behind some of the most memorable remixes of recent years, giving the world new takes on tracks by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lana Del Rey, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, and many more.  RAC’s remixes have reached #1 on the Hype Machine charts 31 times and his first solo recording, “Hollywood,” featuring Penguin Prison hit #1 on all four Hype Machine charts at once while his tracks have over 25million plays on Soundcloud.  Originally born and raised in Portugal, RAC settled in Portland, Oregon, where he began to forge his unique brand of indie-pop culminating with the release of his debut album Strangers (out now) on Cherrytree Records.  André co-wrote and produced every song on Strangers, which features an impressive array of guests including, Alex Ebert (of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and 2014 Golden Globe winner for Best Original Score) Tegan & Sara, Penguin Prison, Tokyo Police Club, Cherrytree recording artist Matthew Koma, Katie Herzig, along with Bloc Party’s Kele and electro-pop artist  MNDR.  Fresh off his Strangers Live World Tour,  RAC will perform live at Lollapalooza on August 3rd  and upcoming festival dates including Loufest in St. Louis and Life Is beautiful in Las Vegas.

Drum Roll…Please

guitar-center-logo

For the last 20 years, guitar giant Guitar World has hosted an annual drum contest. It’s the world’s largest drum competition. And this year they’re holding their 20th anniversary for Drum-Off.

The Grand Finals for Drum-Off ’08 is January 10th in Hollywood. There’s six finalists:

Juan Carlos Mendoza from E. Brunswick, NJ

Jerome Flood II from Lawrenceville, GA

Anthony Burns from Saginaw, MI

Ramon Sampson from Memphis, TN

Sherman Arnold from Englewoodm CO

Timm Newton from La Mesa, CA

After numerous competitions thoughout the entire country (held at every single of the the 214 stores in America), six undiscovered drummers were chosen. A huge feat to accomplish, going through almost 5,000 contestants, these six musicians relish in nervous excitement. The six finalists will go head to head on Saturday, January 10th, 2009 at Guitar Center’s Drum-Off Grand finals in Los Angeles for a prize package worth over $45,000. They will be performing at the historic Music Box at Fonda Theater in front of a capacity crowd. The show will also feature performances from drumming greats Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden, Jason Bittner from Shadows Fall, an exclusive collaboration by Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta) and Thomas Lang. Lastly (but not least!), a headlining performance by Papa Roach. The evening’s hosted by Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction.

If you just happen to be in that area, definitely check it out. Let me know if ya do! This competition is huge; Guitar Center’s annual Drum-Off has been recognized by the music community as one of the most important platforms for unsigned talent, and an awesome start-off point for many seriously talented young drummers. Tickets can be bought here from TicketWeb. It’s $15 a ticket, and all-ages…so don’t let your “sobriety”, “underage-ness”, “lack of sobriety”, “ummm…whatever” stop you!
