Upcoming tour mates Grouplove remixed “Mason Jar” together with Captain Cuts. Last week, Smallpools announced their upcoming March/April tour withGrouplove and MS MR, which will bring them back to Austin, TX which they visited for Austin City Limits as well as visits to Washington, DC, Atlanta, Arizona and New York for instance.
Last month, the LA band made their national TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live, performing their single “Dreaming”. The foursome consist of Sean (vocals/keys), Mike (guitar), Joe (bass) and Beau (drums), the band will divide their time between the studio working on the full-length debut and live shows.
The release of their self-titled debut EP gained them critical acclaim.Neon Gold calls “Mason Jar” “a sepia splash of power-pop that crystallizes into a starscraping smash before the verse even kicks in, as stadium-sized Of Monsters And Men gang vocals ride high on the buoyant flair of Smallpools’ youthful, Two Door-esque ebullience.”
Gold Fields’ debut album Black Sun is armed with pop hooks, tribal beats, danceable rhythms, and plenty of emotion. Revered for their larger-than-life live show, the Australian quintet will kick off a national co-headlining tour with A Silent Film & Royal Teeth next week. Fans that can’t make it out can watch their debut TV appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! performing ”Dark Again,” February 27th at 11:35/10:35pm Central on ABC.
The band has already shared a few songs off Black Sun via thematically charged videos for “Treehouse” and most recently “Dark Again” ft model Shaun Ross who has also starred in Katy Perry, Kanye West & Beyonce videos. With dreamy, swirling layers and sincere lyrics that showcase the band’s vulnerable side, the band has unleashed new album track “Happy Boy” today.
Hitting listeners with a power-packed punch from its first note, Black Sun opens with the infectious “Meet My Friends,” a bass and percussion-driven track with haunting echoing vocals. The single “Dark Again” is a pop gem flecked with driving guitars and bright synths, all building to a heavy-hitting chorus that’s sure to make you move. The album also contains “Treehouse” and the electrically-charged “Moves.”
MTV has named Gold Fields one of their 13 Artists to Watch in 2013, supporting the band across their platforms throughout the year. The result of relentless work and playful experimentation, Black Sun will be released February 26th via Astralwerks. The album is available for pre-order now. In the spirit of my return from an awesome vacation in Mexico, I’m going to pass along some information today about Lucha VaVOOM, which is where Mexican Masked wrestlers flip and fly, performing breathtaking acrobatic feats as lovably absurd characters with names like Dirty Sanchez, Chupacabra, and Shamu Jr. In between matches, the finest handpicked burlesque acts from around the world delight the crowds because the folks at Lucha VaVOOM like a little sexo with their violencia! Lucha VaVOOM has upcoming Halloween shows at LA’s Mayan Theater, October 27th and 28th.
Even more, there’s comedians added to the mix! In the past, comedians like Jeffrey Ross, Patton Oswalt and Jack Black have taken part. Lucha VaVOOM has also appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, CBS National News, Carson Daily and several other local news programs. Recently, dancers and wrestlers from Lucha VaVOOM shared the stage with Ozomatli and Cheech Marinat the Hollywood Bowl, and were one of the top-billed acts at the Chicago Just For Laughs Festival (right under Ellen DeGeneres).
Rooted in history, Lucha VaVOOM draws its inspiration from the bizarre world of 60’s Mexican Lucha Cinema, where brave, masked wrestling crime fighters save the world from evil brains, vampires, the Bermuda Triangle etc; always with an obligatory stop at the local go-go club.
You simply have to see it to believe it! If Lucha VaVOOM isn’t coming to a city near you this time, be sure to catch an appearance on America’s Top Model on October 6th.
