Fatboy Slim vs. Moguai

He’s recently returned from a jam-packed Asian tour, he’s been churning out quality remixes for A-list superstars on what seems like a daily basis, and he is currently putting the finishing touches on his latest artist album for Mau5trap. But why would the unrelenting Moguai stop there?
Not one to rest on his laurels, the German dynamo has decided to step up his game yet another notch, this time re-working one of Fatboy Slim’s all-time big beat classics, “Ya Mama”! Staying true to Norman Cook’s original iconic vocal samples throughout, Moguai puts his own vigorous spin on proceedings, transforming Slim’s masterpiece into a frenetic, five minute bass-infused monster, to all but guarantee the masses will be “shaking what their mama gave them” till the wee hours. It’s out NOW, exclusively at Beatport!

Matt Nathanson’s new album Modern Love comes on the heels of 2007’s break-out success Some Mad Hope, which catapulted the San Francisco-based Nathanson from darling of the touring circuit with a devoted cult following to a bonafide hit maker and one of the premiere songwriters on the music scene today. Known for his legendary live shows that are both wildly funny and emotionally provocative, Nathanson took a year off the road to record Modern Love – the first break he has taken from touring in his 15 year career. The success of Some Mad Hope and “Come On Get Higher” gave Nathanson a sense of accomplishment and confidence that allowed him to take a new approach to Modern Love, taking bigger risks and diving deeper into his vast array of musical influences. The writing process started by exploring songs that were more physical and groove-based, drawing from influences such as Depeche Mode, ACDC and Talking Heads. By the time the eleven songs, written and produced with his longtime collaborator Mark Weinberg, were completed, Nathanson was marveling at the new territory they had covered. From the “Depeche Mode groove” in “Mercy (Less Drowning, More Land)” to the ecstatic opening track and first single “Faster,” to the soaring “Run,” which features Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, Modern Love is a luminous and bold departure.

The Other F Word

What happens when a generations ultimate anti-authoritarians – punk rockers – become society’s ultimate authorities – dads?  “The Other F Word” is the revealing, funny and touching film that tackles this question.  With a large chorus of punk rock’s leading men – including Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, and Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath – the documentary follows Jim Lindberg, a 20-year veteran of the skate punk band Pennywise, on his hysterical and moving journey from belting his band’s anthem “F—k Authority,” to embracing his ultimately authoritarian role in mid-life: fatherhood.

Director Andrea Blaugrund Nevins explains “When I was a kid growing up in New York City, Punk Rockers were the people you crossed the street to avoid.  So when Cristan Reilly, the film’s producer, came to me with a book that her old friend, Jim Lindberg, the lead singer of the Southern California skate punk band Pennywise, had written about being a Punk Rock Dad, I was both repelled and intrigued.”

Producer Cristan Reilly adds, “Punk Rock Dad. It’s a great oxymoron. Andrea and I, who share, among many things, an ironic sense of humor, started with that very tiny but amusing kernel… We had no idea how much deeper the story would go, and we believe our film reflects the journey from funny concept to a series of moving realizations about rebellion, growing up, fathers, and fatherhood.”

Other dads featured in the film, which was Executive Produced by Morgan Spurlock & Jeremy Chilnick, include Art Alexakis (Everclear), Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo), Tony Adolescent (The Adolescents), Fat Mike (NOFX), Lars Frederiksen (Rancid), skater Tony Hawk, and many others.

“The Other F Word” screens first in New York and Los Angeles, then hits theaters across the country in November and December.
