Album Stream: Goldfish – Late Night People

“Their unique style of house is apparent with a dance-driven approach making use of bouncing, deep basslines, jazzy and bright melodies with uplifting vocals while sax lines are thrown in perfectly.” – This Song Is Sick

Since locking themselves in their bedroom studio and emerging with debut album Caught In The Loop in 2006, GoldFish have gone from one of dance music’s best-kept secrets to luminaries both as producers and on the live front. Their can-do attitude and unique musical vision led them to countless sold-out performances and festival appearances, a top 10 in the iTunes Dance chart in the United States, an MTV Africa award, a four-year residency at Pacha Ibiza and a list of support that runs from Robin Schulz and Klingande to Thomas Jack and Sam Feldt. A landmark in itself, their fifth album Late Night People is bound to make the duo stand out further both in and beyond the world of dance music.

Following MTV Africa Award-winning album Three Second Memory, GoldFish is ecstatic in releasing their latest EP Late Night People, in addition to an International fall tour, sharing critically appraised live performances of the smashing new album. The uplifting twelve-track album radiates a sense of coming home, of discovering a piece of the world that has yet remained unclaimed and untainted. Between its funky and sexy title track, the upbeat “If I Could Find” and the ever-vibrant “Rising Sun” (with Pontifex and Grammy Winner, Gustavo Bertino), the album harbors Thirteen records that are as diverse as they are alike, coexisting peacefully.

KAABOO Festival 2015

Last weekend, while I was visiting friends in San Diego, we went to the first ever KAABOO festival at the Racetrack and Fairgrounds at Del Mar.

It. Was. Awesome.

We only went on 1 out of the 3 days; but it was still great. KAABOO was marketed as a classier festival in that there were actual real restrooms, instead of port-a-potties; there was better food and more choices; better beers and even wines, etc.

I thought I had seen the whole grounds, but after checking out some other pictures and articles online, clearly I was mistaken. And now I feel bummed out about it. Waaaaaaah.

Anyways, I got to see Ron Funches (comedian) who plays on the show “Undateable” and is my FAVORITE character in the show; possibly of all time.

So…that was fun. He put on a good show, but I think I was hoping he’d be more like his character “Shelley.” haha

The guy on the right is Ron Funches. Silly bear.

After that, everyone was hungry so we went to the “Posh Nosh” food tent area. It was cooled down in there and a nice break from the heat.

Then we bounced around a bit between Counting Crows and Slightly Stoopid until it was time to see Young the Giant. I like Young the Giant, but they weren’t on my MUST SEE list — however, once I was watching them, I was loving it. Crazy how that happens, huh?

After that, the people in my company wanted to see Zac Brown Band (I am not really a fan), so we went over there. It killed time until Goldfish was playing anyway. At 10:00, they didn’t have any more bands playing outside because of the noise ordinance, so Goldfish, Big Gigantic and Girl Talk were all playing in a tent at the Encore Stage.

Goldfish was AWESOME. I was super excited to see them, and they did not disappoint. It was an amazing dance party. I posted a short video on YouTube from it — I don’t take many videos because I want to just feel and enjoy the moment fully — but I knew I’d be so upset if I didn’t have just a little bit to look back on! Here’s the video:

After that, I wanted to see Big Gigantic and dance some more, but everyone else wanted to go see Joel McHale at another stage. So — we mosey’d over there, but it was PACKED. The line was super long and then they weren’t letting any more people in, so it was a bust. We got back to the Encore Stage when Girl Talk was getting ready to come on. Now, everyone knows I love me some Girl Talk. Greg Gillis is from Pittsburgh and I’ve seen him 4-5 times here. I was excited to see him in San Diego this time, at this festival. But…I am saddened to say that it was not the hyped up dance party I am used to. It was just not good. We tried to get into it but weren’t able….and ended up leaving to catch an Uber before everyone at Kaaboo wanted one. I mean….it was probably a fluke, I’m sure.

Anyways — my experience was just a short chapter of the book. But, I’d like to go back again! Good times!

Goldfish For The Win!

unnamed (2)

At the star-studded MTV Africa Awards a few nights ago, South African band Goldfish scooped the night’s biggest gong, winning ‘Best Pop Act’ for their latest album Three Second Memory. The duo, currently on tour in Europe and Asia, flew back to pick up the accolade in front of a live audience with millions more watching on TV sets around the world.

Goldfish, who figured heavily in the official after-movie for Ultra South Africa, also unveiled the new video for their latest track “Moonwalk Away (Moonlanding Mix)”, featuring historic footage of the first moon landings plus incredible time-lapse photography from both the International Space Station (ISS) and the starlit plains of Africa.

Having used original recordings of Neil Armstrong and Mission Control in the remix, Dominic Peters and David Poole contacted NASA on the off-chance that they could use archived film from the ISS and the moon landing itself. “We never expected to get a response,” said Dom, “but they came back saying we were welcome to use any of the footage!”

“The video also has African children’s voices in it and we’re from South Africa, so we wanted to give it an African perspective too. After much back and forth with various landscape photographers traveling around the world we got some mind blowing time-lapses of the African sky shot from around southern Africa.”
The remix, part of a package that includes edits from German stars Alle Farben and Lexer, is indicative of Goldfish’s symphonic yet funk-filled production work; sweeping orchestral sections and evocative piano chords harmonize against warm, driving percussion segments and spine-tingling vocals to create beautiful house music of the absolute highest degree.

The award for ‘Best Pop Act’ will come as no surprise to fans of Goldfish, who take the ‘traditional’ DJ mindset when performing live to a whole new level, incorporating instruments as diverse as saxophones, flutes, keyboards and electronic cellos into their shows. The pair has become internationally renowned for their show stopping performances as well as their original production and remix work – perfectly highlighted in the brand new tour video from their explosive set at Kingsday 2014 at the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium in The Netherlands.
Over the next few months Goldfish will continue their tour across Europe, hitting venues and festivals in Germany, Italy, Belgium, France, Croatia, the Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic and Lithuania. For more information and to find out how to buy tickets, visit www.GoldfishLive.com.

Video: Goldfish – “One Million Views”

“They’re my favourite band right now” – Fedde Le Grande

“I couldn’t get their album off my stereo by the pool this Summer” – Pete Tong

In the new Goldfish video for “One Million Views”, the fish take a tongue in cheek look at DJ culture and it’s button pushing phenomenon.

“Some people got it right from the start, some didn’t, but it’s cool to know that Joel [Deadmau5] knew what we were expressing. Much respect to him for commenting, a cool surprise for us!” -Goldfish

“One Million Views” is an amazing animated piece of art which was created by longtime Goldfish animator extraordinaire, Mike Scott.
