Eric Sharp & Friends EP

Click to listen to the four-track EP

With two lead singles already under his belt it’s now time for Eric Sharp to round things out in one symphonic release.

Over the past four years, Sharp has only released individual singles, so the Eric Sharp & Friends EP is a momentous achievement in his career.

Featuring hit tracks “Too Much” and “Take This Time”, you now also get to enjoy two more tunes, “Call in the Night” and “Some Place I Can Call My Own”. Three of the tracks feature his good mate Zhao, with “Too Much” featuring Brooklyn lads French Horn Rebellion.

Eric Sharp has come a long way since his successful DJ spinning days in the underground house and techno scene, but they certainly shaped his productions for a more focused sound today.

“For the ‘Eric Sharp & Friends EP’ I left that creative constraint behind and just focused on making music as an ends in and of itself. Those who follow my original work will know that collaboration is a big part of my process. I find that there is a nearly magical energy exchange in co-creating music with other artists whom I share a wavelength with,” Sharp said.

The four-track body of work shows a softer moodier side to Sharp’s personality both as a producer and a writer, with a creative flow geared towards the philosophy of surrealist painters like Dali, Magritte and Miro.

“Surrealism involves allowing one’s unconscious to manifest itself in one’s work, maintaining an openness to explore whatever flows through oneself. Because of this I often don’t know what a song is going to be about until halfway through writing it,” he said.

The EP was developed both in his home studio and remotely, with writing sessions at Drew Kramer (Wild & Free) and Zhao’s studios, where the focus was primarily around developing ideas.

“It’s hard for me to take in my productions with a fresh ear, but hopefully on first listen people will hear the tracks as warm, inviting, and hypnotic. My goal is to draw people in my world sonically to have their own experience, and for this purpose, an EP is a better avenue than a single would have been,” he said.

When you next see Eric Sharp live, listen closely as you will hear snippets of these four singles filter through his set.

“Ironically, now that I have the final masters I find myself sneaking these songs into my DJ sets quite regularly even though they are pretty different from most of what I mix,” he said.

Eric Sharp & Friends EP is available everywhere now including Spotify & Apple Music, with thanks to Little Assembly.

Brand New: Equal + LEFTI – “The Way I Move”

equal-lefti

Check out this sparkly new disco collab track from DJ’s Equal + LEFTI (at the bottom of post).

About Equal and LEFTI:

Equal is a New York City DJ and music producer originally from Asheville, NC. He’s previously spent his nights wooing crowds all over the world, from New York City’s hottest parties for the downtown-club kids and fashion elite, to large scale events and festivals such as Bonnaroo. As a lifetime drummer from a musically inclined family, his transition to production from solely DJ’ing was a natural one. He first garnered attention as a producer with the release of his single, “Lost in the Evening (ft. Gary Jules),” and his recent hit “Shakedown” has garnered worldwide DJ support alongside placement in outlets such as Vogue UK and a collaborative ad-campaign from Ciroc for Zoolander 2. Equal will continue to release exciting collaborations featuring indie music’s elite as the year continues.

LEFTI is a Brooklyn based Producer / DJ / Musician and Songwriter by way of Florida. Mainly known for his thrilling remixes for artists such as Anoraak, Gallant, CID, Big Data, ASTR, French Horn Rebellion and Solid Disco, LEFTI has been titled “a disco-house hero” by Dancing Astronaut and has “richly layered productions that tread the line between house, funk and indie dance” by Billboard. With only a handful of original material released (Big Beat, Atlas Chair and Mix Mash) LEFTI has already been supported by top tier DJ’s (Don Diablo, Laid Back Luke, Martin Solveig..) as well as placement in digital marketing synchronization through the likes of Hulu and Vanity Fair. LEFTI is currently set to release a string of singles in the months ahead.

Of the song:

“Collaborating on this song was a fun lil’ journey. Initially we were hanging out working on an edit which turned into a fun sample based disco track that ignited the idea to reach out to Adeline as a feature. Writing together was a blast and once we got her vocals in a great place, we realized we needed to change the instrument bed into something with a little more bite.” — Equal + LEFTI

The Melker Project Is Back With ‘Trill Collins’

unnamed

Riding high on the critical and internet success from November’s Ballin’ Oates, The Melker Project is at it again with Trill Collins. This time, Scott Melker is blending Phil Collins with Gucci Mane to the Pharcyde to Jay Z, and everyone in between.

Listen/download: The Melker Project – “Ballin’ Oates”

His 4th EP focusing on a single classic artist, Trill Collins was a formidable project. “I’ve been obsessed with Phil Collins since I was a Young Melker, and have always wanted to tackle his catalogue. The task was daunting, as a number of Phil’s songs are basically rock/pop perfection, particularly ‘In The Air Tonight’,” Melker says.

The Melker Project’s methods are truly a labor of love, as he replays all of the individual instruments with updated sounds and synths. He then used these new sounds to remix the tracks, and later reincorporated samples from the original Phil Collins songs. After all of this was done, he combined his  new versions with appropriate vocals. Melker explains, ”In the case of ‘Invisible Touch,’ I decided to do a straight up remix with the vocal being the only element of the original track.”

In his 16 year career, Scott has played gigs around the world alongside notable DJs and acts, including DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ AM, Public Enemy, Slick Rick and Dougie Fresh, Kanye West, Wu Tang, Q-Tip, Ne-Yo, TI, The Ying Yang Twins, Jet, among others.
Combining his genre-savvy music selection – from Hip Hop, Trap, R&B, Rock, House, 80s, Funk, EDM Soul and Classics – with his razor sharp skills on the turntables, Scott Melker is among the few selectors challenging the traditional assumption that DJs simply play records.

In addition to entertaining crowds live, The Melker Project is hard at work in the studio. His remixes are coveted by DJs and music aficionados around the globe. A number of his recent remixes have reached number 1 on the hypem.com popular charts, and have been spotlighted by Billboard, VH1, Fuse TV, Earmilk, The Los Angeles Times, and a number of other notable music publications.

Besides having the entire Trill Collins EP available for streaming, fans can currently download the mp3 of “In the Air ToNas” for free. The Melker Project will also be releasing a new track from Trill Collins, once a week, on his Soundcloud page for fans to download.
