Video: WATERS – “Got To My Head” + Geographer Remix!

unnamed (4)

San Francisco’s WATERS has premiered the video for their exuberant debut single “Got To My Head.” Directed by photographer Dan Monick, the video is low-budget but high-energy, hearkening back to some of frontman Van Pierszalowski’s all-time favorite videos, like Green Day’s “Longview” and Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So.”

“So we only had $1500 to make this video. Fortunately, my favorite videos of all time look like they could have been made for half of that,” says Pierszalowski. “I wanted the video to showcase the energy of our song, and take me back to the adolescent rage and fantasies embodied in those old 90s alt rock videos. I wanted there to be a single shot that tries to contain all the manic energy I feel when I perform ‘Got To My Head’ live.”

Last week Earmilk premiered a remix of “Got To My Head” by WATERS’ fellow Bay Area artist Geographer.

After finishing school and coming off of years on the road supporting his former band (Port O’Brien) Van Pierszalowski, the creative force behind WATERS, decided to live and work in San Francisco spending some time standing still for the first time in ages. The calm gave way to creative restlessness and the result was a new band and a new sound in the form of WATERS. WATERS’ “Got To My Head” is informed by an era of alternative music where frenetic energy, pop hooks and a focused lyrical narrative could drive any young kid to start playing guitar. While currently working on a full album of songs with the same immediacy as “Got To My Head,” WATERS has announced a handful of West Coast shows and dates to come.

NONONO Confirmed For SXSW

unnamed (5)
Swedish indie pop trio NONONO, aka striking lead singer/songwriter Stina Wappling and the production duo Astma & Rocwell, will return to the USA in April for a their first full tour of the states in support of twenty one pilots. A full list of tour dates is below. They are also confirmed for SXSW in March. NONONO are currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album, which is due out later this year. For the time being, fans can enjoy the four song Pumpin Blood EP, of which the title track you’ve surely heard before, even if you haven’t realized it. “Pumpin Blood” is climbing the Top 40 radio charts here in the US, as its on over 70 stations, including SiriusXM Hits1, WRVW Nashville, KBKS Seattle, and more. The song has also been used  in commercials for Samsung, Sparkling Ice and Late Night with Seth Meyer, and featured on shows like Dancing With The Stars, American Idol, Revenge, Cougar Town and Vampire Diaries among others.

NONONO has two tracks on the soundtrack to Universal Pictures’ upcoming movie Endless Love, a romantic drama starring Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) and Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) and directed by Shana Feste (Country Strong). The film hits theatres February 14th 2014. “Pumpin Blood” and The Jane Doze Remix of “Pumpin Blood” are both featured on an impressive indie soundtrack, which also features Tegan and Sara, The Bird and The Bee featuring Matt Berninger, Guards, Echosmith, and Tanlines.

NONONO played their first official US shows just this past fall, when they took New York City’s CMJ Music Marathon by storm, being championed by everyone from Billboard, who named them one of the “Best of CMJ 2013”, to Grantland, to TIME and even CMJ themselves, who highlighted the band in their “5 International Artists to Watch” feature. Fashion media has been quick to jump all over Stina’s natural beauty and the potential of NONONO. Vogue,ELLEGlamour and Into The Gloss all profiled Stina, and Refinery 29, Nylon and Harper’s Bazaar picked NONONO as an Artist To Watch in 2014. Stina is an unlikely, unassuming rock star in the making. She went to school in Brighton to become a psychologist, and then proceeded to work as a nurse in a mental institution. She’s been writing songs all her life, usually for other people though. It wasn’t until recently, when the 24 year old got linked up with Astma & Rocwell, that Stina stepped into the spotlight. Watch Stina and NONONO perform acoustic versions of “Pumpin Blood,” “Like The Wind,” and “Fire Without A Flame” for All Saints and also stopped by Perez Hilton for a session as well.

Listen: Smallpools – Mason Jar (Grouplove & Captain Cuts Remix)

smallpools
Upcoming tour mates Grouplove remixed “Mason Jar” together with Captain Cuts. Last week, Smallpools announced their upcoming March/April tour with Grouplove and MS MR, which will bring them back to Austin, TX which they visited for Austin City Limits as well as visits to Washington, DC, Atlanta, Arizona and New York for instance.

Last month, the LA band made their national TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live, performing their single “Dreaming”. The foursome consist of Sean (vocals/keys), Mike (guitar), Joe (bass) and Beau (drums), the band will divide their time between the studio working on the full-length debut and live shows.

The release of their self-titled debut EP gained them critical acclaim. Neon Gold calls “Mason Jar” a sepia splash of power-pop that crystallizes into a starscraping smash before the verse even kicks in, as stadium-sized Of Monsters And Men gang vocals ride high on the buoyant flair of Smallpools’ youthful, Two Door-esque ebullience.”
Smallpools – Smallpools EP tracklist (out on RCA Records):
01. “Dreaming”
02. “Mason Jar”
03. “Over & Over”
04. “No Story Time”
You can check out some remixes of Smallpools hit “Dreaming” from a previous post here.

artworks-000065083070-sbn421-t500x500

Victory is the music project of LA artist Robert Fleming, who crafts sun-bleached rock & roll with a pop edge. His debut LP, Victory Is Music, was released earlier this year, and he followed it up last week with his Soothing Me So EP. The EP contains the album version of the single, two brand new remixes, and a special cover track.

Now, check out house/dance producers Enso (who have done remixes for Sleigh Bells, Icky Blossoms, etc.) who’s remixed his single “Soothing Me So,” turning it into a dancefloor banger.
