They Might Be Giants – “Last Wave”

“Oh my god, They Might Be Giants is underrated. That’s the best band of all time. Better than the Stones, better than the Beatles, better than Oasis, and better than Crosby, Stills and Nash.”  – Open Mike Eagle, Pitchfork “Over/Under”

“The crowd’s enthusiasm for the fresh material is unmatched even when the band proffers what is perhaps their most-loved song, “Birdhouse in Your Soul”… “ – Rolling Stone

“Now a band for 30 years, John Linnell and John Flansburgh are one of rock’s all-time most quixotic successes” – SPIN

“Perfect pop music can come from anywhere and can go anywhere. They Might Be Giants have demonstrated this for a quarter century…” – The New Yorker

“Catch them if you can — their live shows always deliver.”  – USA Today

Video: The Hives – “Wait a Minute”

The Hives are ready for their close up with the release of their new video for “Wait A Minute,” which recently premiered on MTV. Directed by Travis Schneider, the video was filmed in a Chicago hotel room using only some leather, an iron, a floor lamp, frozen yogurt, and the sweltering Chicago sun. “Wait A Minute” is the second single from The Hives lauded new album Lex Hives, which was released earlier this summer on the band’s own Disques Hives.

The Hives will return to the U.S. next month for a West Coast run, kicking off September 2 at the Made In America festival in Philadelphia with stops in Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Oakland, Las Vegas, and more. The tour will include appearances on CONAN on September 12 and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on October 5.

The September dates are the latest on the band’s world tour, which included a stop this past weekend at Reading & Leeds Festival, and marks their second outing in the U.S. following a widely-praised run in June. The Philadelphia Inquirer proclaimed “The Hives have been single-handedly saving rock and roll,” and the Washington Times stated, “The Hives played the audience like a fiddle.” Similarly, MTV praised their “Superhuman capacity for consistent excellency,” and SPIN anointed Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist “one of the greatest frontmen in rock.”

The band’s newest album Lex Hives is receiving worldwide praise, with NME declaring “Let it be said that Lex Hives is amazing,” and The Independent states, “If Lex Hives has one fault, it’s that it makes you want to switch it off, go straight out and see the Hives live,” and Entertainment Weekly proclaims “The Hives have returned to remind us the Swedes do it better.”

BRAND NEW: Silversun Pickups – “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)”

Dangerbird Records and MapleMusic Recordings are excited to announce the release of the new record by the Grammy-nominated Silversun Pickups, Neck of the Woods, on May 8. The record was produced by the Grammy Award-winning Jacknife Lee (U2, Weezer, REM, Snow Patrol), and the song “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)” is the first single. The band is confirmed to perform from the Jimmy Kimmel Live! outdoor stage on release day, May 8.

Lead singer/guitarist Brian Aubert told Spin magazine that the songs sound “like a horror movie.” He continued, “[2009’s] Swoon was more about what I was feeling at that particular time, whereas with this one, I wanted to see what built me. It was learning why I am the way I am.” When discussing the sound of Neck of the Woods, Aubert told Spin that drummer Christopher Guanlao steals the show. “We really wanted to play with drums as textures. We played around with drums coming in here and there and building atmosphere, which guitars usually do.” But he went on to joke, “I’m not going to let the others have all the fun. It’s still a rock record. We wanted to have moments of explosions like we’ve done in the past, but we didn’t want them to carry the whole song. There’s something a little bit psychotic sounding that we really like and we didn’t want to fill it entirely with big guitars.”

The band will be touring throughout 2012 and 2013.

Grammy Nomination – Skrillex

Few have had a bigger 2011 than Skrillex. Replete with 2 EPs, the cover of SPIN Magazine, and over 300 performances on several sold-out world tours, Sonny Moore capstones an incredible year with five Grammy nominations, more than almost any other artist. The Atlantic/Big Beat artist has been exceptionally active throughout the last 12 months while simultaneously launching his own record label, OWSLA, as well. These are the 23 year-old’s first Grammy nominations, and honors  include Best New Artist (a first for an electronic musician!), Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronica Album for Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, Best Remixed Recording for his remix of Benny Benassi’s “Cinema” and Best Music Video for “First of the Year (Equinox)” which has garnered over 20 million views on Youtube.

Newest Love: The Chain Gang of 1974

“The Gang — which is actually just the recording moniker of Kamtin Mohager — delivers silken bursts of New Wave-inspired dance music with meaty, Cut Copy-sized hooks and flourishes of Passion Pit-style falsetto.” – SPIN‘s 35 Must-Hear Acts at SXSW

After self-releasing two albums over the past several years and receiving early praise from the likes of SPIN, The FADER, RCRD LBL, Brooklyn Vegan, and more, The Chain Gang of 1974 is ready to break out with Wayward Fire! Set for release June 21st on ModernArt, this is an album as restless as The Chain Gang of 1974‘s White Guts, an album which funneled three years of instrument-swapping, sample-splicing experience into a lean focused listen, but it melds the standout moments from that release into something wholly new and realized. In creating this new album, The Chain Gang of 1974’s genre-jumping singer/multi-instrumentalist Kamtin Mohager moved from Denver to Los Angeles, severed the ties of the two-year relationship that fueled Wayward Fire, and raised the
curtain on what’s next, proving that this particular film has just begun.

Download/listen: “Undercover”

On Wayward Fire, the laser-guided synth lines of “Undercover” and the rather epic “Hold On”-crowd pleasers that hint at everything from LCD Soundsystem to Talking Heads-make perfect sense alongside such shifting soundscapes as the shimmering keys of “Don’t Walk Away,” the hands-in-the-air hooks of “Taste of Heaven,” and the choruses that cut through the rain clouds in “Matter of Time.” Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Mohager balances his minor-key melodies with bold, bloodletting lyrics.

“Fresh off a string of noteworthy performances at South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, Chain Gang is positioned to pick up where LCD Soundsystem is leaving off – live dance music with an abrasive edge and hipster swagger.” — Denver Post

In the lead up to this release, The Chain Gang of 1974 will play select dates on the west coast with Jamaica.
