Ladytron is Baaaaaaaaaaack!!!

“This is the Ladytron you remember, sleek and icy, with a wall of synthesizers barreling their way toward you, driven by a teutonic disco beat while Helen Marnie, disaffected as ever, intones “There’s no wrong, there’s no God.”
-Brooklyn Vegan

“The Animals” marches forward propelled by brittle percussion and the short, sharp synthesizer riffs popularized by early Eighties New Wave bands. Lead singer Helen Marnie condenses the hook into a punchy, breathless chant as choral backing vocals glide through the mix behind her.”
-Rolling Stone

” a potent combination of smeary dream-pop and futuristic robo-music.”
-Stereogum

“A dark, synth-driven track, the song’s lyrics describe the animalistic, base nature of humanity.”
-Spin

A hallucinatory track of primitive synths and angelic harmonies, with lyrics considering our more savage instincts.”
-Flood Magazine

On March 1st, Liverpool’s synth meets shoegaze quartet Ladytron released their new single, “The Animals” which made its premiere exclusively via Flood Magazine. A remix by Vince Clarke dropped, making its premiere with Deep House Amsterdam. Both tracks are available now exclusively through the band’s Pledge Music campaign for their forthcoming album. The campaign features deluxe versions of the album and other exclusive items including a limited seven-inch vinyl of the two versions of “The Animals.”

The project reunites the band with Grammy-winning producer Jim Abbiss who produced their iconic album Witching Hour and hit single “Destroy Everything You Touch.”  “The Animals” was the first new song we had, and with it we went immediately into the studio with Jim Abbiss,” says vocalist Helen Marnie. “He’s the producer who has really understood us the most”.

A combination of primitive synths and emotive harmonies, with lyrics that contemplate humans’ bestial impulses, the single is unmistakably Ladytron, yet hints at new horizons to come. Electronic pioneer Vince Clarke adds a new dimension with his remix. Opening with a sick yet flawless bassline, and stripping the shimmering keyboards of the original for a more menacing sound. “We have always wanted to work with Vince in some way, he’s obviously a legend in our sphere,” remarks Ladytron’s Daniel Hunt.
A second single will follow in the summer, followed in the Fall by the album, both via Pledge. The Pledge Music campaign provides a great opportunity to make the album independently and reconnect with their audience.

About Ladytron:
Helen Marnie, Mira Aroyo, Daniel Hunt, Reuben Wu formed Ladytron in Liverpool, England in 1999. They broke through in the early 2000s with the Light & Magic and Witching Hour albums. After five records and a succession of world tours over a ten-year period, Ladytron took a deserved pause, pursuing other projects, collaborations and creative endeavors, before finally deciding in 2016 to begin work on new music together. “The Animals” is the first fruit of this new chapter for the group.

New Video: VHS or Beta – “Breaking Bones”

VHS or Beta’s upcoming album, Diamonds & Death, is a journey full of thrilling moments and unexpected turns. The album’s electronic foundation is a byproduct of the many nights VHS OR BETA DJs have manned the decks and remixes they have done in the last few years. The self-produced album travels spectacular heights to gut-wrenching plunges and is an emotional rollercoaster. The songs unfold and mutate in unpredictable ways that will transfix dance floors and bedrooms alike. Diamonds & Death will be released September 27 on Krian Music Group/Chromosome Records.

The “Breaking Bones” MP3 was released a few weeks ago and now the band has revealed the stylishly colorful and slightly risqué new video for the track. With a skittering beat, keyboards stabs and a transfixing vocal melody, “Breaking Bones” immediately submerges you into the album and explodes into a guitar-fueled chorus.

Title track “Diamonds & Death” transforms from a minimal synth track into a dance floor behemoth. “I Found a Reason” is a pulsating summer anthem with a soaring refrain built on a foundation of rubbery bass, swooning synth and housey piano chords. Diamonds & Death is an unpredictable journey full of breathtaking epic song-scapes.

The two main creative engines behind VHS OR BETA’s decade-long career, Craig Pfunder and Mark Palgy, relocated to Brooklyn from Louisville over the last two years. Be sure to catch them live on a national tour with Ladytron if you’re able!

Newest Love: Ki:Theory (+ free download)

Ki:Theory (a.k.a. Joel Burleson) is a recording artist and producer who walks the tightrope between electronic and indie/alternative rock. Ki:Theory has also lent his adventurous sound  to remixes for Daft Punk, Queens of the Stone Age, Ladytron, and Brazilian Girls among others. Having already rocked Bonnaroo and dj-ing for Betsey Johnson’s during NYC fashion week, Ki:Theory has returned to the studio to work on new material. Yesterday, he released the single for “Holiday Heart.” For the B-side, he teamed up with Holy Fuck for a remix of
UNKLE’s track “Natural Selection” which features The Black Angels.

Check out the “Holiday Heart” MP3 where it premiered on PopMatters or HERE!

“Holiday Heart” has a bright vocal melody, skittering beat, and an instantly memorable hook with something a little darker brewing beneath the surface. “(Holiday Heart) is actually a medical condition you get when you’ve been hitting the whiskey and summer sausage a little too hard (commonly around the holidays).  I’ve always thought it makes a great metaphor for ‘to much of a good thing.”, explains Burleson. The b-side is an Olympian collaboration between Ki:Theory, UNKLE, Holy Fuck, and The Black Angels. “Natural Selection” is such a great song to start.  I’m a huge fan of UNKLE, The Black Angels, and Holy Fuck. I did a remix for UNKLE once before [2007’s “Hold My Hand”], so getting asked to contribute to something all these great artists had collaborated on was just phenomenal.  Holy Fuck had already laid some really nice textures and ambient soundscapes for the remix so getting in there with big drums and some leads seemed like a cool direction.”, says Burleson.

Ki:Theory has also recently contributed a remix of Daft Punk’s “The Son of Flynn” to Daft Punk/Tron: Legacy remix album “Reconfigured”. His song “Arms for Legs” is also featured alongside Sleigh Bells and Silversun Pickups in the trailer for John Singleton’s new film “Abduction”. This month, his remix of  the song “Angelica” is also featured on  the “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” soundtrack by Rodrigo y Gabriela with Hans Zimmer.
