Brand New: Equal + LEFTI – “The Way I Move”

equal-lefti

Check out this sparkly new disco collab track from DJ’s Equal + LEFTI (at the bottom of post).

About Equal and LEFTI:

Equal is a New York City DJ and music producer originally from Asheville, NC. He’s previously spent his nights wooing crowds all over the world, from New York City’s hottest parties for the downtown-club kids and fashion elite, to large scale events and festivals such as Bonnaroo. As a lifetime drummer from a musically inclined family, his transition to production from solely DJ’ing was a natural one. He first garnered attention as a producer with the release of his single, “Lost in the Evening (ft. Gary Jules),” and his recent hit “Shakedown” has garnered worldwide DJ support alongside placement in outlets such as Vogue UK and a collaborative ad-campaign from Ciroc for Zoolander 2. Equal will continue to release exciting collaborations featuring indie music’s elite as the year continues.

LEFTI is a Brooklyn based Producer / DJ / Musician and Songwriter by way of Florida. Mainly known for his thrilling remixes for artists such as Anoraak, Gallant, CID, Big Data, ASTR, French Horn Rebellion and Solid Disco, LEFTI has been titled “a disco-house hero” by Dancing Astronaut and has “richly layered productions that tread the line between house, funk and indie dance” by Billboard. With only a handful of original material released (Big Beat, Atlas Chair and Mix Mash) LEFTI has already been supported by top tier DJ’s (Don Diablo, Laid Back Luke, Martin Solveig..) as well as placement in digital marketing synchronization through the likes of Hulu and Vanity Fair. LEFTI is currently set to release a string of singles in the months ahead.

Of the song:

“Collaborating on this song was a fun lil’ journey. Initially we were hanging out working on an edit which turned into a fun sample based disco track that ignited the idea to reach out to Adeline as a feature. Writing together was a blast and once we got her vocals in a great place, we realized we needed to change the instrument bed into something with a little more bite.” — Equal + LEFTI

Stream Civil Twilight’s Acoustic Album: Story of an Immigrant

civiltwilight

Civil Twilight, originally from South Africa, and now Nashville based, are living proof of what happens when you stop worrying about being the chosen one and make music built on both the roots that grew you and the love that keeps you thriving every day.
Civil Twilight’s songs embrace every corner of human emotion, balancing delicate, poetic lyrics with sweeping arrangements that touch all the senses: a phrase to make you think; a rolling drumbeat you can feel in your bones; a guitar vamp as illustrative as a picture; a shimmer of keys whose light can nearly be seen and heard.
The same goes for their most recent release – a gorgeous, goose-bump giving acoustic rendition of their album, Story of an Immigrant, which premiered via Billboard.  “It was a lot of fun breaking these songs down to their core, stripping them naked and giving them a new outfit,” singer Steven McKellar tells Billboard. “To see what else we could bring out of them and what else they could say. These versions allow the listener a closer look and hopefully a more intimate experience of the original album.”
Available via Wind-up Records and one year since the release of the original record, the acoustic record also features three bonus tracks, “Letters from the Sky” and “Save Yourself”, plus an ethereal cover of Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself,” that premiered a few weeks prior via Consequence of Sound.
Following appearances at Bonnaroo and Firefly this Summer, the band will continue across the country on a headlining tour this July. With a handful of upcoming shows with Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness, the band also announce today that they will be direct support for Nothing But Thieves this Fall.  The tour sees them travel to Canada, down the west coast of America through the Pacific North West and into Southern California, with another leg in October that brings them to the East Coast and into the South.

Newest Love: Ki:Theory (+ free download)

Click image to listen to "Holiday Heart"

Ki:Theory (a.k.a. Joel Burleson) is a recording artist and producer who walks the tightrope between electronic and indie/alternative rock. Ki:Theory has also lent his adventurous sound  to remixes for Daft Punk, Queens of the Stone Age, Ladytron, and Brazilian Girls among others. Having already rocked Bonnaroo and dj-ing for Betsey Johnson’s during NYC fashion week, Ki:Theory has returned to the studio to work on new material. Yesterday, he released the single for “Holiday Heart.” For the B-side, he teamed up with Holy Fuck for a remix of
UNKLE’s track “Natural Selection” which features The Black Angels.

Check out the “Holiday Heart” MP3 where it premiered on PopMatters or HERE!

“Holiday Heart” has a bright vocal melody, skittering beat, and an instantly memorable hook with something a little darker brewing beneath the surface. “(Holiday Heart) is actually a medical condition you get when you’ve been hitting the whiskey and summer sausage a little too hard (commonly around the holidays).  I’ve always thought it makes a great metaphor for ‘to much of a good thing.”, explains Burleson. The b-side is an Olympian collaboration between Ki:Theory, UNKLE, Holy Fuck, and The Black Angels. “Natural Selection” is such a great song to start.  I’m a huge fan of UNKLE, The Black Angels, and Holy Fuck. I did a remix for UNKLE once before [2007’s “Hold My Hand”], so getting asked to contribute to something all these great artists had collaborated on was just phenomenal.  Holy Fuck had already laid some really nice textures and ambient soundscapes for the remix so getting in there with big drums and some leads seemed like a cool direction.”, says Burleson.

Ki:Theory has also recently contributed a remix of Daft Punk’s “The Son of Flynn” to Daft Punk/Tron: Legacy remix album “Reconfigured”. His song “Arms for Legs” is also featured alongside Sleigh Bells and Silversun Pickups in the trailer for John Singleton’s new film “Abduction”. This month, his remix of  the song “Angelica” is also featured on  the “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” soundtrack by Rodrigo y Gabriela with Hans Zimmer.

Have a listen to the first single from the album, “On Time” by clicking here.

And have another listen to the Juan MacLean  remix of “You and I” by clicking here!

From press release:

Planet Anthem marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band. Since they formed in 1995, the guys created their own movement by fusing the jam band and electronic music scenes. However, their forthcoming release prominently features elements of pop, indie dance, hip hop, and straight up rock music. This is not the band you think they are. This is a band that makes damn good pop songs that, if you gave them a chance, would resonate with you. Don’t be scared, give it a whirl.

The Biscuits collaborated for the first time with multiple producers, songwriters, and outside musicians, including Don Cheegro and Dirty Harry (Ludacris, Chris Brown, Beanie Sigel). The result is an album filled with sing along melodies and infectious beats. Another first, the new video for “You and I” has been added to rotation at both MTV2 and MTVu and the band is going to be hosting Subterranean as well.

After plowing through 5 sold-out dates at Nokia Theatre in NYC over New Years and four sold-out shows at Boulder, CO’s Fox Theatre in January, The Biscuits will hit the road again starting tonight in Baltimore. The band will be performing at Ultra Music Festival in Miami alongside Tiesto, Deadmau5, Carl Cox, Passion Pit, Major Lazer and more. They’ll also be playing Bonnaroo 2010 this June in Manchester, TN. They also just announced details for the annual music festival they put together, Camp Bisco, which is now in in 9th year.  Past performers have included Snoop Dogg, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, The Roots, MSTRKRFT, Nas and Damien Marley, Girl Talk, and Kid Cudi.  This year, the event will take place July 15 – 17 in Mariaville, New York. Lastly, the Biscuits will be hosting their even Bisco Inferno at Red Rocks on May 29th. This year’s lineup will feature Aeroplane, Pnuma Trio, The Crystal Method (DJ Set), Booka Shade, The Glitch Mob and of course 2 sets of the Biscuits.
