Listen: Chromeo ft. Toro y Moi

unnamed (2)
Almost a decade ago, the Canadian duo Chromeo introduced their unique blend of electrofunk to an exponentially growing global audience. White Women, Dave 1 and P-Thugg’s 4th studio album coming this spring on Atlantic, refines their signature 70’s and 80’s influenced quirky pop songs, masterfully crafted in the tradition of the finest R&B, disco and funk. Montreal’s reigning loverboys will be previewing their infectiously catchy new record, featuring previously released singles “Over Your Shoulder” and “Sexy Socialite”, on the road this spring, along with playing some Chromeo classics from Business CasualFancy Footwork and She’s In Control. The “Come Alive Tour” launches in Houston, TX in April and winds its way through the US and Canada, with a headlining finale US show at NYC’s Terminal 5 in May. Chromeo’s live show has become legendary in its own right and this tour will mark just the first stop in many exciting live announcements to come for the band in 2014!

For all the retro talk, Chromeo’s music is, more than ever, anchored in pop’s present. This is reflected in the band’s collaborative approach on White Women. They unexpectedly resurrected Death From Above 1979 as their backing band to perform “Sexy Socialite” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, they shot an epic album trailer with Parisian design firm Surface to Air to preview “Over Your Shoulder” and partnered with contemporary artists Snarkitecture, MILK Studios & Tumblr to create The White Room installation in New York. The newest edition (pun intended) in an ever growing and exciting list of collaborators is Toro y Moi, featured on their buoyant new single,”Come Alive”. “Toro is a new school funk disciple, like us” says the band. “Ever since we heard his music we wanted to unleash his inner Jermaine Stewart.” This is disco Chaz in a way you’ve never heard him before.

Listen: Dr. Dog – Oh My Christmas Tree EP

drdog_ep.jpg

Today, Dr. Dog will release a collection of four delightfully weird and heartfelt original Christmas songs. The EP is entitled Oh My Christmas Tree and was initially intended as a gift to the band’s family and friends. Fortunately for the rest of us, the group has decided to make the songs public.

Buy the EP

In keeping with the holiday spirit, 100% of artist proceeds from this digital only benefit EP will be donated to Feeding America, the nationwide network of food banks that feeds more than 37 million people, including nearly 14 million children, and leads the nation in the fight against hunger.

As Dr. Dog’s Scott McMicken explains “Last year, in 2012, I wrote these songs and recorded them in two different kitchens over the course of the two weeks leading up to Christmas. I made them with the intent to mail them to some of my friends and family as a christmas present. It wound up being a great gift to myself! The experience definitely showed me once again that stopping to pay closer attention to what things mean, even seemingly familiar things, always brings an added depth and beauty to life. And always in a surprising way. Christmas music can be so playful and fantastical but it can also be very melancholy and foreboding. To me thats the best. The spirit can guide you to balance and the spirit can be found anywhere you choose to look. In the cartoons and in the cold blood. In the wild imagination and in the strictest tradition. These four songs will ultimately live as that reminder for me and hopefully they serve you in some way too. You, the child of wonder. You, of age and grace. Peace be with ye.”

Dr. Dog, whose high energy live shows the New York Times Magazine recently described as “feeling as if you’re at the best house party ever” will begin a North American headline tour this January in support of their soulful new album B- Room, which Magnet proclaimed “Dr. Dog’s career-defining work” and All Music called  “a beautifully crafted slice of psych-pop goodness.”

Video: Lucius – “Tempest”

Lucius_lo_Res_press_shot_4

The Brooklyn band Lucius unveiled their thought-provoking new video for the song “Tempest” via The Wall Street Journal“Tempest” is from the band’s recently released debut album Wildewoman, out now on Mom+Pop Records.

The new video, made by Leblanc + Cudmore, “is from the perspective of the dreamer’s desk,” co-founders and front-women Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig explain to The Wall Street Journal.  “We were drawn to the theme of duality, since it plays so prominently within our own band,” they said. “But as carefully crafted as that duality seems, it was really a happy accident. It just happened ‘by chance’ and it worked . . . our band can feel dreamlike at times, and bold with intensity at others. The video lends itself to a similar path.”

The band is currently in Europe on a tour that culminates with a sold out show in London and ends 2014 with a string of shows in the Northeast, including two sold out shows at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom. Lucius begins the new year with a Winter 2014 tour making stops in Nashville, New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Portland, Denver and more.

Walk Off The Earth were just nominated for a YouTube Music Award in the Response of the Year (best fan remix, parody or response video) category for their cover of Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble”, and have been confirmed to perform at the first ever YouTube Music Awards ceremony next month in NYC alongside Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, Eminem, Avicii, MIA, and Earl Sweatshirt.  The YouTube Music Awards celebrate artists who receive the highest levels of engagement with fans from all over the world, through views, likes, shares, comments, subscriptions and more. The inaugural ceremony will be hosted by actor and musician Jason Schwartzman along with comedian Reggie Watts, with Spike Jonze serving as creative director.  Fans can vote at youtube.com/musicawards from now until the live show on November 3 at 6pm ET.

In addition, Walk Off The Earth recently won a CASBY Award at home in Canada, where “Red Hands” has been certified Double Platinum and R.E.V.O. has been certified Gold.  In addition to accepting their award for Favourite New Artist, the group performed a short set for the packed crowd at the event.  Watch the band perform their new single “Gang of Rhythm” at the award show here.

The commercial has been in constant rotation since its debut earlier this month during a new episode of “Breaking Bad,” and the song is the most popular on Grand Theft Auto V’s soundtrack, on sale now at iTunes. “Sleepwalking” is the first single from The Chain Gang of 1974’s highly anticipated sophomore LP Daydream Forever, which is due out February 4 on Warner Bros Records.

The Chain Gang of 1974 just finished a run of West Coast dates with The Vaccines, and is gearing up for a week-long trek with Sir Sly, kicking off October 8 in San Francisco. See below for details.

Daydream Forever was produced by Isom Innis (Foster The People), with additional production and mixing from Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix). Earlier this summer, Neon Gold unveiled a first look at the new album, by premiering the song “Miko.” Watch the official lyric video for it below:

The new album is the anticipated follow-up to The Chain Gang of 1974’s widely acclaimed 2011 debut Wayward Fire, which Esquire declared “one of the summer’s most surprisingly fantastic new records,” and earned similar praise from the likes of SPIN, MTV, FADERNYLONRCRD LBL and more. The band has shared the stage with the likes of Foster the People, Big Audio Dynamite, Tapes N Tapes, and The Naked and Famous, as well as a lauded performance at 2011’s Lollapalooza, which Yahoo proclaimed “a fabulous onstage display.”
