Video: Lewis Watson – “Stay”

Lewis Watson is set to release his long-awaited debut album The Morning in the US on June 17th. Demonstrating Lewis’ powers as a songwriter, The Morning combines fully-realised reworkings of select songs from his early EPs with plethora of new material – including instant grat track “Halo,” “Stay” and much more. These new songs take Lewis’ stripped-back, guitar-and-voice roots to a new level of richer, more textured soundscapes.

In 2012, Lewis Watson self-released his debut EP It’s Got Four Sad Songs On It BTW after establishing a devoted online fan-base. It topped the iTunes singer-songwriter chart on the first day of release, outselling the likes of Adele, Madonna and Ed Sheeran in the process, and landed the then nineteen-year-old singer-songwriter a deal with Warner Bros. Records.

In addition to critical acclaim, all five of his EPs to date have hit the Top 10 at iTunes, each building upon the sales of the previous release. Meanwhile, his online following is phenomenal: 5 million YouTube plays; 100,000 likes at Facebook; 5 million streams at Spotify; and 70,000 Twitter followers.

Fans who purchase The Morning iTunes pre-order, available now, will receive an instant download of new album track “Halo”.

These artists join previously announced collaborators Adam Levine, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, and Lady Gaga.

Beginning, well, yesterday – the group is kicking off “Wack Wednesdays” on their YouTube channel. Every Wednesday leading up to the release of The Wack Album, they will debut new content including music videos, exclusive announcements, and world premieres of tracks. These videos will also be distributed on twitter via @thelonelyisland with #wackwednesdays.

Here’s the first video of The Wack Wednesdays Series:

The Lonely Island recently released The Wack Album’s lead single, “YOLO” (feat. Adam Levine and Kendrick Lamar), which has garnered over 40 million views on YouTube in only three months. The trio also boasts a staggering 1.2 billion overall views on their YouTube channel. Their 2011 album Turtleneck & Chain, which debuted at #3 on Billboard, was nominated for a Grammy® in the category of “Best Comedy Album” and featured such talents as Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, Santigold, and Beck. The album’s first smash single “I Just Had Sex” (feat. Akon) was certified platinum. The second single, “The Creep” (feat. Nicki Minaj and John Waters) has over 74 million YouTube views. Their 2009 debut album, Incredibad, included Emmy® winning sensation “D*** In A Box,” featuring Justin Timberlake. The album also featured the follow-up gold records “J**z In My Pants” and “Like a Boss” which have over 234 million views combined on YouTube. The Grammy® nominated third single “I’m On A Boat” (feat. T-Pain) went platinum and catapulted the album into over 430,000 copies sold making it the #1 selling comedy album in 2009 and 2010. The trio established themselves with the enormously popular series of corresponding Digital Shorts for their singles, which were frequently featured on Saturday Night Live beginning with the debut of the pop culture sensation “Lazy Sunday” in 2005.

Originally from Berkeley, California, the group splits their time between Los Angeles and New York City. To learn more about The Lonely Island, visit www.thelonelyisland.comhttps://twitter.com/thelonelyisland andwww.youtube.com/thelonelyisland

Download: Royal Canoe – “Show Me Your Eyes”

Winnipeg-based six piece Royal Canoe have released their latest digital 7″, Purple and Gold. The digital release features two new songs, “Show Me Your Eyes” and “Summersweat.” The release also features remixes from Ryan Guldemond of Mother Mother and Tim “DJ Co op” Hoover. The 7″ is now available for purchase on the band’s official Bandcamp website as well as iTunes and will be available in physical form on October 8.

Royal Canoe is a group of musicians on a mission to construct ambitious, inventive music. The songs are thick with catchiness, rich in rhythm and are consistently pushing against the boundaries of pop music separating them from the standard indie music makers invading the internet. Having already been featured on the cover of Verb and with two singles charting on CBC Radio, Royal Canoe’s genre-defying arrangements and sharp lyrics has continued to garner the attention of media such as The Uniter which stated that “Royal Canoe have established themselves as musical mad scientists, throwing rock, pop and hip hop into a blender to create catchy-as-hell, dance floor-ready songs with odd time signatures and distorted vocals.” All the while, Indie Shuffle stated Royal Canoe have “an expertise in energetic psychedelic pop…deconstructed, slithering, intriguing.”  Listeners can check out exclusive new music teasers, studio footage and music and performance videos  found on their official youtube channel.

Finally! Official Video for Avicii’s “Levels”

One year, and over 20 millions YouTube hits after it was first unleashed upon the partying public, Avicii’s ‘Levels’ has become a globally recognized score and undoubtedly the most unifying dancefloor record of 2011…but the bug is spreading further! As this mammoth single continues to soar up charts across the planet, we are finally blessed with one truly hilarious music video to match. Living up to all expectations and more, this three-minute cut of comic genius will have you splitting at the sides.
The mundane, daily grind of office-block life provides the initial setting…until that is, one melancholy employee becomes infected with the ‘Levels bug’. No prizes for guessing how the mood U-turns; as Avicii’s smash hit gets into full swing, resonating and rip-roaring over the computers and photocopiers of the humdrum workplace, the man is simply uncontrollable in his hip-thrusting, booty-shaking, table-top dancing excitement – so much so that only the Taser-gun of a security man can bring him down!
As he hits the deck and passes out, that’s when things start to get very weird…and equally funny. Awaking from a truly bizarre dream to find himself strapped to a hospital bed, the madness of the office starts all over again – the only difference being that the ‘Levels bug’ is ten times more infectious than before. Doctors, nurses and janitors beware, because nobody is safe from the contagious sounds of 22 year-old superstar Avicii!

As a bonus, lead singer Michael Stipe and the video’s co-director Jim McKay have posted an intro video featuring a list of their favorite YouTube clips. The “Every Day Is Yours To Win” video is part of the Collapse Into Now Film Project, where artists and filmmakers were asked to create short films for each song on the new R.E.M. album Collapse Into Now.

From what I understand, the video for “Every Day Is Yours To Win” is only supposed to be up for 24 hours, so go check it out now!

Girl Effect – You Can Help!

In other countries, a lot of girls and their families face poverty. This is not new knowledge. But, did you know that most of them end up married and pregnant by the age of 15? They are no longer in school, and they’re now stuck in a vicious cycle that has no happy ending. In order to help provide for their family, they are forced into selling their bodies. This leads to the spread of STD’s and HIV.

“A survey in India found that girls who married before age 18 were twice as likely to report being beaten, slapped, or threatened by their husbands as were girls who married later.” – Internatl. Center for Research on Women

“75% of 15-24 year olds living with HIV in Africa are female, up from 62% in 2001.” – Global Coalition on Women and AIDS
