New EP Coming From Cold War Kids

CWK

Listen: Cold War Kids – “Pine St.”

Cold War Kids announce the release of ‘Tuxedos’, a digital EP available September 17th through Downtown Records and MapleMusic Recordings. The six-song collection includes two previously unreleased tracks,  “Romance Languages #2” and  “Pine St.”, as well as covers “Aeon” (Antony and the Johnsons) and “You Don’t Come Through” (The Band). ‘Tuxedos’ also features the self-titled original album track and an alternative version of “Bottled Affection” from their April 2nd release, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts.

“Fits and starts of brilliance on the first three records, Cold War Kids have hit their stride and locked into a very intense groove for the fourth,” says Esquire Magazine. NME adds, “(Dear Miss Lonelyhearts) has gone back to the sort of idiosyncratic weirdness that made us fall for them in the first place.”  Relix states, “There’s a natural flow to the songs on this disc … a complexly drawn collection. And that blues sensibility you always liked best about them is happily still there.”

Wild Belle Tour Dates

WildBelle

Chicago based duo Wild Belle have announced an extensive fall headlining tour that will kick off September 5 in Madison, WI.  The band recently made their Lollapalooza debut before they headed to San Francisco to play Outside Lands.  After previously touring the states opening for Passion Pit and Toro y Moi, Wild Belle will travel across North America and back for over 25 headlining tour dates -making this their biggest headline tour to date (full list of dates below).  To catch a glimpse of Wild Belle’s life on the road, watch the band’s self-directed video POSTCARDS FROM THE ROAD Nº3.

Wild Belle’s live performances have been recognized for their catchy hooks and infectious sound.  The band took their effortlessly sunny set on the festival circuit this summer with performances at Coachella, Sasquatch, Firefly, Full Moon Festival, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands.  The musical talents of both siblings shine during the band’s live performances, with Rolling Stone noting how “Natalie (breezes) about the stage with relaxed bravado while Elliot (switches) effortlessly between keyboards and sax…creating an organic wall of sound.”

In June the band stopped by a Los Angeles bike shop to record a performance with KCRW of “Love Like This” for NPR’s Field Recordings.  Noted by the Chicago Tribune for their “breezy sounding pop music,” Wild Belle is currently featured in Glamour’s summer music issue and as Time Magazines “Band to Watch”.

Wild Belle is Natalie and Elliot Bergman. The band is joined live by Kellen Harrison (bass) as well as fellow NOMO members Erik Hall (guitar) and Quin Kirchner (drums).

Download: Gentlemen Hall – “Sail Into The Sun” (RAC Remix)

GH

Standing strong between the high-handed anthemic choruses of the Killers and the retro synth melodies of MGMT, Gentlemen Hall has established itself as one of the most talked about bands to emerge from Boston in recent years. The band is gearing up to release a new EP this fall, but in the meantime, they’ll be taking their live show on the road, performing several festivals around the Midwest and East Coast, interspersed with several headlining dates.

Gentlemen Hall recently released their single “Sail Into The Sun”, which has garnered radio airplay nationwide, along with huge synchs in Target and Samsung commercials. RAC also gave it the remix treatment, which is available as a free download below.

Listen: Lucius – “Hey, Doreen”

Lucius_lo_res_press_shot_3_copy

NYC’s Lucius is a triple threat quintet with tight vocal harmonies, stomping percussion and an irresistibly charming and sincere live show. The band has announced the North American release of their debut full-length album Wildewoman on October 15 with NYC indie label Mom+Pop. Produced by Dan Molad & Lucius, Wildewoman is a lush recording that preserves a modern edge while stylishly showcasing 60s classic pop influences.

As introduced on the band’s 2012 self-titled EP, Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe’s intertwining vocals reverberate amidst rhythmic instrumentation performed by bandmates Dan Molad, Peter Lalish and Andrew Burri on this full-length, eleven song debut. “Hey, Doreen,” a new album track from Wildewoman recently premiered and guess what? Video: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Partners with Funny or Die To Premiere Video for “Dancefloor”

361
Detroit’s affable duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. have partnered with Funny Or Die for a rare FOD music video premiere for “If You Didn’t See Me (Then You Weren’t On The Dancefloor),” which launched this morning. The clip follows two cops, actors John Ennis (Mr. Show, Tenacious D) and Jay Johnston (Anchorman, Men in Black II, Arrested Development), as they attempt to hunt down Josh and Daniel of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and put a stop to their party time shenanigans at “The Dancefloor.” It was directed by pro skateboarder turned video director Laban Pheidias of Occupy Films, who has previously worked with Justin Timberlake, Blake Shelton and Alicia Keys.

“Making this video was an epic day in sunny Los Angeles” explains the band. “We wore more make up than we had cumulatively worn in our entire lives prior to filming this, and got to hang out with some of the most talented comedians we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.  It was a really wonderful day, even when you factor in the food poisoning that Josh and the Director got form the craft services table. While the original intention of the video was not necessarily centered around humor, the energy of the actors we ended up being able to work with brought it to a great new place.”

Buzzing DJ/producer/vocalist AMTRAC is the latest to remix “If You Didn’t See Me (Then You Weren’t On The Dancefloor), check out his vibed out treatment of the track, perfect for summer mixtapes.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. are playing a handful of summer festivals in August, then will be joining label mates Atlas Genius on the “Ones to Watch” tour through November, including back-to-back shows at NYC’s Irving Plaza.

Downloads: Smallpools – “Dreaming” Remixes

smallpools1

Smallpools has announced their 4-song self-titled debut EP release on July 16th via RCA Records. In honor of the news, the band decided to share a brand new “Dreaming” remix by The Chainsmokers and last week NYLON Magazine premiered the Charli XCX vs Twin Idol Remix of “Dreaming”. The band will reveal another brand new EP track before the start of their first tour.

The four-piece outfit founded in Los Angeles with ties to New York, New Jersey and Oregon. Last week Smallpools announced their first ever live shows, a tour with Australia’s San Cisco that will take them from the East Coast to Canada, through the Mid West and San Francisco and ends in Los Angeles. The brand new band consists of Sean (vocals/keys), Mike (guitar), Joe (bass) and Beau (drums).

Their first single “Dreaming” was produced by Captain Cuts. The song instantly shot to #1 of Hype Machine within the first 3 days of revealing. The band explains the song: “In contrast to the upbeat vibe of the music, the song talks about a moment where everything goes wrong in a situation where you thought you had it all figured out.  A moment we’ve all experienced to some degree, but most often if we’re lucky, in a dream where we get to wake up in a sweat and say, “Phewf, ok, that wasn’t real.” “

New Music: Typhoon – “Young Fathers”

white lighter

Last month, we introduced you to Typhoon and their song, “Dreams of Cannibalism.” Now, the band is excited to premiere the first single “Young Fathers” from their anticipated new album White Lighter.

White Lighter – out August 20th – is the follow up to the band’s EP A New Kind Of House that caught the attention of countless music critics and listeners for its inspiring hybrid of literate lyrics and wide ranging pop music.

Typhoon will head out on a North America headlining tour beginning September 5th in their hometown of Portland, OR. This six-week tour will include performances at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, Pop Montreal and Music Fest NW, along with stops in New York, Los Angeles and Vancouver.

What makes these songs so great is the sense of borrowed time and urgency. A series of events suffered from a bug bite – failed organs, life spared thanks to modern medicine and a kidney given to him by his father – Kyle Morton, the band’s lead singer and songwriter, channeled his emotions into songwriting to create this big-hearted sound that bursts with a raw emotion and energy. The end result is a remarkably powerful and beautiful collection of songs.

“When we started working on White Lighter, I had reason to believe that it would be the last thing I ever did,” says Kyle. “It is now six months since we finished. I’m still here and there’s still work to be done.”

Check ‘Em Out: London Grammar

LG1

“London Grammar account for every slippery string, vocal echo, ultrasound heartbeat, and wordless, holy vocal peal on “Metal and Dust,” the second in a so-far immaculate collection.”–Pitchfork

“The title track of their debut EP, Metal & Dust, features backing so tasteful it cries out to be defaced, while the Unfinished Sympathy breakbeat further enhances the sense of early-90’s déjà vu.” – The Guardian

London Grammar are now officially 2-for-2, with this dusky, sumptuous new single [Metal & Dust] emerging from the mysterious LDN group.” – Gorilla vs. Bear

London Grammar is Hannah Reid, Dot Major and Dan Rothman, who formed the band while attending university together. After spending most of 2012 in the studio working on their debut album, London Grammar revealed their first single, “Hey Now,” on their Soundcloud in December. “Hey Now” has hit almost 370,000 plays to date, while total Soundcloud plays are now over 1.5 million.

The Metal & Dust EP will come out in America on June 25th via Columbia Records. The EP will include their latest UK single “Wasting My Young Years” as well as “Hey Now,” “Metal & Dust” and a Dot Major remix of “Hey Now.”  “Wasting My Young Years” is an emotional and passionate track featuring an intricate piano hook and haunting vocals that lead into a beautiful and powerful chorus backed by escalating drums and guitars. The “Wasting My Young Years” official music video, directed by BISON, can be viewed below, and you can see a gorgeous live rendition at The Guardian HERE.

The London trio will play Glastonbury and various other festivals in the UK this summer, following two sold out headline shows at London’s Electrowerkz and Islington Assembly Hall. The band should be making their way to the states in the near future. London Grammar is also featured on the Disclosure album track “Help Me Lose My Mind”.
