Baby Caught The Bus is gaining strong praise from the media, in his album review for No Depression, Grant Britt declared, “Melbourne’s Clairy Brown & The Bangin’ Rackettes is the best stuff to come along in decades. This thing opens with a bang. ‘Love Letter’ leaps out at you like a Stax 45, blowing you back to the ‘60s through a funky time warp. Baby Caught The Bus is a treasure trove for r&b lovers, a ‘60s time capsule, a show and dance ensemble concept that’s been away far too long. Import this one to your collection immediately for maximum satisfaction.”
The group just launched their U.S. tour at SXSW in Austin and are already blowing away U.S. audiences. In his live review for Bust Magazine at SXSW, writer Christian Detresdescribed the group’s performance “With a peal of trumpet and a trill on a snare, Clairy Browne and her girls ginned up a stompy 60s revival that had the crowd dancing and spilling their vodka lemonades all over the floor.”
Clairy Browne & the Bangin’ Rackettes first gained international attention when “Love Letter” was featured in Heineken’s award-winning campaign The Switch and has surpassed 1 million views online!
“You can’t deny that this band pens blistering psych-rock tunes.” – MTV Hive
Swimm is the swirling and whirling combination of Chris Hess’s guitar, keyboard and voice and Adam Winn’s drums and harmonica; Formerly of Le Blorr, this duo is bringing a fresh sound to their art as Swimm with their debut FeelEP to be released on April 23rd.
Feel EP starts out riding high on a psychedelic wave of rock ‘n roll distortion with the record’s first single “Too Old” which you can listen and download below.
Swimm has manifested a shoegaze-influenced sound on Feel EP that also contains acoustic, gauzy tracks with an intimacy that will draw you in like “Darkness of Love”, as well as breezy, danceable songs like “Feels”.
“I think we are into music that stretches in different directions,” singer Chris Hess explained. “We love float-y feeling dance music as much as we like psychedelic rock.”

Andrew Wyatt, better known to most as the front man of indie powerhouse electronic pop band Miike Snow, has announced his first solo project, Descender, slated for release on MapleMusic Recordings and INGRID/Downtown Records on April 16th.
Descender is a 32 minute meditation into the darker side of Andrew Wyatt not seen on his latest endeavors with Miike Snow. The introspection weaves amazingly intricate soundscapes and is explored with the use of Prague’s Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Adam Klemens. The album also includes cameos from Anthony Rossomando of The Libertines, Brad Traux formerly of Interpol and John Herndon of Tortoise. The marrying of these elements spawned a huddled romanticism which permeates the record’s sweeping string arrangements with Wyatt’s vulnerable and haunting vocals.
The creation of this album was more elaborate than anything Andrew has attempted before marking the first time he wrote, orchestrated and produced an entire album solely on his own.
HAERTS is a band from New York hailing from Germany, England, and the United States. The group consists of Nini Fabi, Ben Gebert, Garrett Ienner, Derek McWilliams, and Jonathan Schmidt. The band’s first single “Wings” was produced in collaboration with Jean-Philip Grobler (aka St. Lucia). HAERTS’ debut album is due to be released this year.
Back in November last year, I posted about The Last Bison with a free download of their track, “Switzerland.” (You can see the post here.) Well now, The Last Bison has officially arrived with the release of their full-length debut album, Inheritance via Republic Records. In support of the release, the band is currently on the road through mid-April, including stops at SXSW, Savannah Stopover Festival, the Tree Fort Music Festival and more. The band also took time to film a BEAUTIFUL cover of M83’s “Midnight City,” which you can watch below.
The Virginia indie folk septet roams in its own pastures, threading together strands of classical, indie, and rock into a vibrant sonic patchwork, which the members have cleverly dubbed “mountaintop chamber.” The first single “Switzerland” whisks listeners away from the rustic heart of the American south into a cold European eve under the winter stars. It also elegantly evinces the group’s robust instrumental fusion and warm, wistful melodies.
The best kind of art is always a family affair, and Ben Hardesty fronts The Last Bison being joined by his dad Dan and sister Annah. Their ranks also include lifelong friends Andrew and Jay Benfante, Teresa Totheroh, and Amos Housworth.
Already, the sounds of the rustically soulful collective have resonated powerfully with the press with their Inheritance EP drumming up widespread acclaim. NPRencapsulate their enigmatic style calling it “classical-influenced Southern folk-rock,” while the LA Weekly praised them for being “At once epic and intimate, great-outdoorsy and fireside cozy.” PopMatters fittingly declared, “Are The Last Bison a Band to Watch in 2013? Most definitely.”
The Last Bison invite everyone to join their family now and enjoy Inheritance.

Shortly after releasing their debut album Don’t Let Me Sleep, Midnight Spin has just embarked on a six-week nationwide tour in support of the album’s release. Between the album’s release and their show dates, Midnight Spin found time to invite Consequence of Sound into their home for their segment #AreaCode, a new series on the Rock It Out! Blog. Watch the interview here to learn the meaning behind the album’s title, their favorite neighborhood deli, and living in their rehearsal space. Today, Midnight Spin shares their second single “Conchis Bliss.” The five piece alt-rock band from Brooklyn, NY contains elements of classic rock’n’roll and 90s alternative rock, with a modern indie flare reminiscent of their Brooklyn home.
Produced by Justin Gerrish (Vampire Weekend, the Strokes, Weezer), Don’t Let Me Sleep is the result of endless bleary-eyed practice sessions and late night stumblings across the East River, which inspired and yielded a full-length album worthy of its name. From Cohen spacing the record with wurlitzers and organs to Scull bashing it out like the Grohl of yore, the twelve-song LP combines 90s alternative and punk energy with modern indie elements from their Brooklyn home. As Consequence of Sound writes, “Imagine if Foo Fighters somehow grew up as fans of early the Killers with a little of the Strokes tossed in for flavor.” It’s an album that just can’t stop chasing the night.
Don’t Let Me Sleep scrapes together everything you once loved about rock music and makes it hum again like a dirty, little noise-box from the future. Catch the band on tour in a city near you.

Check out The Royal Concept taking on Daft Punk. With a brand new cover, the Swedish lads add their patented rock ‘n’ roll swing to the legendary French electro duo’s classic from Discovery, “Digital Love.”
Given the quartet’s penchant for danceable grooves and massive hooks, it’s an undeniable interpretation worth spinning again and again. It’s also the perfect tune to hold over fans until the release of the band’s forthcoming full-length debut for LAVA Records/Republic Records later this year.
In addition, after unveiling “World on Fire” online last month, the single is available on iTunes and other digital retailers. The group continues to stir up buzz stateside after cultivating a fervent and faithful following in Sweden. Their song “D-D-Dance” hit No.2 on Hype Machine, while “Gimme Twice” reached No.3.
Italy’s Tying Tiffany has graced the covers of magazines, strutted catwalks, and commanded audiences with her own brand of dark, dreamy pop. Her songs have been featured in TV shows and video games, and last year, her project T.T.L. saw their track “Deep Shadow” featured in the official trailer for the hit film The Hunger Games. Now, the Italian vixen is ready to take over the airwaves with her new EP, One. Full of buzzing synths, piercing vocals, and infectious electro-beats, One will be released March 12th via ZerOKilled Music.
Opening track “One Second” sets a shadowy, mysterious tone with a foundation of deep, swirling instrumentation, haunting lyrics, and an echoing chorus.
The EP pushes ahead at full speed with “One Girl,” with a pulsing beat and attention-grabbing chorus that beg you to move. “One Place” features dense layers of bass-heavy synth, twisting and turning beneath TT’s powerful vocals. The eerie “One End” closes the EP with a jolting, erratic rhythm and murmuring vocals that linger long after the track comes to an end.
Having shared stages with legends like Iggy Pop and Buzzcocks, Tying Tiffany will bring her live show to the US with performances at SXSW and in NYC this March.
Now, Nightworks, the debut EP from Caught A Ghost, is released today via +1 Records. As the songwriter, producer and lead singer of the band, Jesse Nolan is a devotee of music from bygone eras. With Caught a Ghost, he’s created a sound that eagerly expounds upon his affection for vintage soul, delta blues, and 90s rap alike.
The band has been producing and releasing content on music blogs and their social networks over the past few months. “Time Go” was premiered by Paste Magazine. “Hold Out” was featured here on Musically Amusing as well as on Rolling Stone, and the video premiered on NYLON. This week, the EP is being streamed on AOL Spinner.
As the band now releases their debut EP, they’ve already garnered over 500,000 YOUTUBE views.
The momentum has started to perk up people’s ears around the industry. “Time Go” was featured on the NBC’s SUITS, and “Connected” was featured on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.
Jessie Nolan describes the name of his band Caught A Ghost as referring to the sensation of being filled with the spirit of the past. “It’s an old expression” he says, “musicians used to say you caught a ghost if you gave a good performance. Like you were possessed.” It is this sort reverence for the music of bygone eras combined with Nolan’s musical dexterity that makes Caught A Ghost so unique, and on the cusp of something great.
Nightworks is the precursor to their debut album, due out Summer 2013 on +1 Records.
