Phantogram Tour Dates

Phantogram has announced their highly anticipated return today with a North American headline tour this summer, kicking off on August 16th in Reno, NV and making stops in New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and more. The full list of tour dates can be found below. Sign up to receive the pre-sale code now at phantogram.com. Presale begins tomorrow, May 14th at 10:00am local time. General on-sale tickets will be available on Friday, May 17th at 10:00am local time.

Phantogram – the New York duo of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel— has continued to change the zeitgeist for almost a decade by consistently challenging it with their signature blend of hard-hitting beats, guitar-driven dark psychedelia, and electronic pop. Since the arrival of 2010’s Barsuk Records debut release Eyelid Movies, the pair has amassed nearly half-a-billion streams, achieved two Gold-Certified singles in the form of “Fall In Love” and “When I’m Small,” headlined sold-out shows worldwide, become a festival staple, and toured with artists including The xx, Muse, M83, Alt-J and more.

Their 2016 third full-length, Three, reached career-high positions on the Billboard Top 200 chart (#9) and Billboard Top Albums Sales chart (#5), as the lead single “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore” climbed the alternative radio charts. The album was also met with critical acclaim from Pitchfork, Billboard, The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, People, Vogue, New York Magazine, The FADER, Stereogum, NYLON, PAPER and many others.

Three was completed in the wake of Barthel’s sister’s passing due to suicide, a shattering event which brought suicide prevention awareness to the forefront of the band’s consciousness and has informed their charitable giving and community outreach ever since – as they’ve done on past tours, one dollar from the purchase of each ticket to Phantogram’s upcoming headline performances will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Tycho and Portugal. The Man Live in the Moment

Ghostly International recording group Tycho has united with Portugal. The Man for two extraordinary remixes of the GRAMMY Award-winning group’s current smash single, “Live In The Moment.” Tycho has crafted a pair of distinct new musical visions – “Live In The Moment (Sunrise)” and “Live For The Moment (Sunset)” – that both showcase the acclaimed Portland rockers original song while pushing it forward via the GRAMMY® Award-nominated dance/electronic project’s own distinctive approach.

“Live In The Moment (Sunrise)” and “Live For The Moment (Sunset)” are available today at The Ghostly Store as well as all digital music retailers and streaming services.

“As a producer and musician who primarily creates instrumental songs I jumped at the chance to work with Portugal. The Man’s unique vocal style,” says Scott Hansen, Tycho’s primary composer, songwriter, and producer. “I try to approach remixes in a way that casts the original song in a new light while staying true to its core elements.  Getting to explore totally different spaces with these two versions, it allowed me to better express my take on the song. I wanted to create a lighter, more energetic version (Sunrise) and darker, more introspective one (Sunset) to highlight and contrast the parts of the original song that most inspired me.”

“Live In The Moment” — featured on Portugal. The Man’s eighth studio album WOODSTOCK — is the follow up to the album’s lead single “Feel It Still,” which was undoubtedly one of the biggest songs of 2017. “Live In The Moment” is currently shaping up to be a multi-format chart smash, which includes a top 5 spot at Alternative radio and #1 at Triple A.

Tycho will celebrate the “Live In The Moment” remixes — as well as 2016’s chart-topping album, EPOCH — with a wide ranging U.S. tour, highlighted by headline dates, DJ sets, festival performances, and multi-artist tours alongside Phantogram, Emmit Fenn, and Poolside. New EP from Metacara Released Today

Kyla Rae and Vince Nania are Pittsburgh based duo Metacara and today they’ve released their 2nd EP, Car Talks. I can’t really nail down a genre for them because they incorporate many. But, if you’re a fan of Phantogram, Purity Ring, and Wolf Alice (I’m thinking the Blush EP), you will definitely enjoy Metacara. In comparison to their first release in 2015, Stone Love, they feel like Car Talks is more mature. The name of the band itself means, “Many Faces,” which is super cool and appropriate for a group that feels their music is growing as they grow themselves.

When I hung out with Kyla and Vince recently, they told me this EP was inspired by the kinds of talks that you have in the car. You know, like when you’re going on a road trip — you’re in the car for a long period of time, why not talk about something deep that’s been on your mind? And bonus: your travel mate can’t escape you, mwaahahaha.

Check out the video for one of the new tracks, “Pilsen” below:

After you’ve watched that, check out the rest of the EP below via Soundcloud:

When you listen to the title track, make sure you pay attention at the 1:48 mark where the song changes it up a little bit. I love when one song almost sounds like two different songs AND IT WORKS. That’s what happens here. Magical.

“Over the Edge” has a little bit of a darker feel, which I especially appreciate at this time of year. The air is crisp and fall has arrived, Halloween is coming, and I usually feel a teeny bit bitter that the bitter, cold weather is approaching. Sometimes that’s what puts me “over the edge,” not sure about you. Juuuuuuust kidding. Sort of. Anyway, all of the tracks flow very nicely with each other and the EP ends with “Ceilings.” At 1:38, this song brings another beat that I’ve fallen in love with. The sound is blues-y and adds another level of anticipation followed by a rock vibe that carries out the rest of the song. After checking out Car Talks, you’ll see what I mean about nailing down a genre. Maybe I’ll make one up just for them.

The Car Talks EP is available on all major music platforms, so go grab it on whichever one strikes your fancy!

AND if you’re in the Pittsburgh area this Saturday, go check them out for their release party at James Street Gastropub!

Newest Love: Freedom Fry

“A jewel of sparkling synth and melodies” – VICE/Noisey
“Freedom Fry are on the path to stardom” – Indie Shuffle
“indie pop-folk tracks with upbeat melodies, danceable rhythms” – Flaunt Magazine

In anticipation of their upcoming Strange Attraction EP set for release on September 7th, Los Angeles based alt-folk duo Freedom Fry share new single “Party Down” with VICE’s Noisey. Highlighted by pulsating electronic beats and dreamy, melodic vocals of Marie Seyrat and Bruce Driscoll, the track stays true to the duo’s infectious feel-good sound.

“Party Down is a song about getting through the grind of your daily life and wanting to make the good times last longer – having the foresight when you’re in a good moment to realize that once it’s over you’re going to miss it,” Freedom Fry comments. “We were playing with synths as lead elements, which we haven’t done very much as a band. We wanted the beat to feel like a cross between Michael Jackson and the more danceable songs by The Clash. Once that was in place the rest of it just came together.”

“Party Down” follows the release of the first single and title track “Strange Attraction” released last month via BlackBook. Upon release of the EP, Freedom Fry will bring their kinetic live energy to Los Angeles on September 9th at Sunstock Solar Music Festival.

Freedom Fry has garnered over 50 million track streams and their music can be heard in over 50 films, shows, and commercials including Judd Apatow’s “Love” and Grey’s Anatomy. The band has appeared on The Hype Machine over 50 times, including three #1’s as they continue to turn heads on the international scale. They’ve performed in Europe and throughout the US with the likes of Stromae, Phantogram, X Ambassadors, and others.

Brand New: Phantogram – “Fall In Love”

Phantogram

Phantogram have set February 18, 2014 as the release date for their forthcoming new album, Voices.

This is the critically acclaimed New York duo’s first major-label full-length, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated albums of the new year. The pre-order for Voices went live yesterday

Pre-order via iTunes

Pre-order via Amazon

Moreover, fans who pre-order from iTunes will receive an instant download of the band’s brand new single “Fall In Love”, which is also available at other digital retailers today, and as the A-side of a limited-edition 7″ vinyl single at physical retailers in early 2014.

Before the official radio add date, “Fall In Love” is already captivating radio gatekeepers and fans alike. Its effect proved so powerful that multiple stations in major markets added the song into early rotation. Over the past week “Fall In Love” has become the most-added track at Alternative Radio, and it continues to rise. Feedback has been just as astounding.

The song itself sees duo Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter craft a cerebral and charismatic gateway into the record’s lush landscapes and entrancing lyricism. It’s elegant electronic alternative pop fortified by hip-hop futurism and electro soul. You’ll instantly fall for it.

Phantogram will be performing on the West Coast during the week of the record’s release, making the following stops:

02.20.14          Oakland, CA               Fox Theatre
02.22.14          Los Angeles, CA         Wiltern Theatre
02.23.14          Ventura, CA                Ventura Theatre

Voices follows up the group’s celebrated self-titled EP, which spawned the track “Black Out Days”. Phantogram performed the song on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in the midst of a triumphant fall tour that saw the pair and their live band headline numerous sold-out houses as well as an unforgettable performance at the historic Hollywood Bowl supporting M83.

Recorded in Los Angeles with co-producer John Hill (Santigold, MIA), Voices resounds immortally. Phantograms full-length debut Eyelid Movies [2010, Barsuk] and Nightlife EP [2011, Barsuk] established them as one of music’s most intriguing indie outfits. Soon, the likes of The Flaming Lips and Big Boi [Outkast] began seeking them out for studio collaborations. Republic Records also recognized their spirit and joined forces with them in 2013.
