Listen: NEW Dragonette – “Let it Go”

Along with the recently released single “The Right Woman,” which was featured on Diane Von Furstenberg’s compilation Proud To Be Woman Vol. 3, Let It Go marks the first of many new tracks to come from the Toronto band as they gear up to release a new full-length. After touring for two years, lead singer Martina Sorbara says that the prospect of writing a new album was intimidating, and the band wondered, “’How does this whole writing thing work again? Do we actually know how to do this part of our job? Are we ever going to write another song?’, and so on.’  But now somehow, miraculously we have a whole album’s worth of songs that we all love and can’t wait to unleash on stage and in stereo.”

Video: Hollis Brown – “Ride On The Train”

NYC natives Hollis Brown make music that is lush, raw and full of heart. The band’s Nothing & The Famous No One EP will be released digitally on April 3rd.  For an early taste, the band has released a video for album track “Ride On The Train,” a triumphant song of new beginnings lead by warm, crackling guitar over booming piano.

Nothing & The Famous No One opens with the emotionally charged, bluesy love ballad, “Gypsy Black Cat.” The classic rock & roll track “Spoonful” features guest vocals by Deer Tick’s John McCauley. The band recorded Nothing & The Famous No One with producer Adam Landry (Deer Tick, Middle Brother) in Nashville during the summer of 2011. Taking great care to create a warm, vintage sound, the tracks were recorded live, straight to analog tape.

With Record Store Day coming upon us, this is the perfect time to check out this app for iPhone and Android phones from The Vinyl District.

Besides having a feed from the website, The Vinyl District, the app features a  geo-location record store finding tool which is also keyword searchable (helpful when planning a trip to a strange city). Have a look & take a quick tour here. The app has stores listed in over 15 countries, mostly in the US & UK, and more are being added everyday. The app also features a calendar for record fairs in the US & UK, and a social aspect as well. Users can check-in to stores, leave comments about them, and also discuss purchases. Newest Love: Holy Esque

Scottish Indie rock band Holy Esque has announced plans to release their self-titled debut EP on April 23.  The EP will be available digitally on iTunes and on CD at upcoming shows.

The young Holy Esque, whose members range from 19 to 20 years old, formed in early 2011 in Glasgow and consists of Pat Hynes (vocals/guitar), Keir Reid (keys), Hugo McGinley (guitar) and Ralph McClure (drums).   The band began playing shows throughout the UK in less than six months of their inception.  After posting a few demos online, word spread rapidly about the enigmatic band’s intense sonic morass of distortion and atmospheric soundscapes, landing them coverage on numerous blogs and NME’s prestigious “Radar,” who said “HE really benefit from that everything up to ten factor, but also know their way around a riff that kinda sounds like classic Bunnymen played by James Dean Bradfield….you’ll be needing to play this loud.”
In early 2012, Holy Esque entered the DIY Pink Megic Studios built in a flat in the Southside of Glasgow with producer Kevin Burleigh (Glasvegas, Simple Minds, Supernaturals) to record their debut self-titled debut.  Armed with big riffs, thick crunchy bass lines and perhaps one of the most unique, yearning vocals heard in years, Holy Esque meld post-punk and 90’s alternative rock influences with skillful ability on their debut.  Featuring driving indie rock anthems like “Rose” and “Ladybird Love,” the EP is an incredible introduction to Glasgow’s most promising new band.

Download: T.T.L. “Deep Shadow” from The Hunger Games Trailer

T.T.L.’s “Deep Shadow” has been transfixing the public ever since the trailer for the eagerly anticipated film “The Hunger Games,” started airing. The trailer uses the instrumental version of the song, which quickly became a sensation in the film’s fan community.

T.T.L. is a duo formed by new-wave princess Tying Tiffany and Italian electronic producer and composer Lorenzo Montanà. Tiffany’s latest single “Drownin’” from the upcoming album Dark Days White Nightsis featured on FIFA 12, and her songs have also been used on CSI.  Lorenzo Montanà has recently collaborated with Pete Namlook working on an ambient music series called Labyrinth. They have partnered with the innovative label ZerOKilled Music.

ZerOKilled Music – founded by artist/producer Costanza Francavilla – is an NYC-based record label, publishing company, music production and licensing agency representing cutting-edge artists and composers for Film, TV, Advertising, and Video Games. It’s a collective of music lovers based on a DIY with a taste for the evocative and experimental sounds. Their catalog features electronic artists from all over the globe – especially from the European underground scene – rangingfrom ambient to industrial, from forward-thinking pop to avant-garde music. ZerOkilled Music’s aim is to put the far-out sounds of tomorrow within reach and to help create projects that are unmistakably memorable, effective and unique. BRAND NEW: Silversun Pickups – “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)”

Dangerbird Records and MapleMusic Recordings are excited to announce the release of the new record by the Grammy-nominated Silversun Pickups, Neck of the Woods, on May 8. The record was produced by the Grammy Award-winning Jacknife Lee (U2, Weezer, REM, Snow Patrol), and the song “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)” is the first single. The band is confirmed to perform from the Jimmy Kimmel Live! outdoor stage on release day, May 8.

Lead singer/guitarist Brian Aubert told Spin magazine that the songs sound “like a horror movie.” He continued, “[2009’s] Swoon was more about what I was feeling at that particular time, whereas with this one, I wanted to see what built me. It was learning why I am the way I am.” When discussing the sound of Neck of the Woods, Aubert told Spin that drummer Christopher Guanlao steals the show. “We really wanted to play with drums as textures. We played around with drums coming in here and there and building atmosphere, which guitars usually do.” But he went on to joke, “I’m not going to let the others have all the fun. It’s still a rock record. We wanted to have moments of explosions like we’ve done in the past, but we didn’t want them to carry the whole song. There’s something a little bit psychotic sounding that we really like and we didn’t want to fill it entirely with big guitars.”

The band will be touring throughout 2012 and 2013.

Video: Miike Snow – “The Wave”

Check out this new chill-inducing video for Miike Snow’s “The Wave.”

The video is a continuation of a thread which began in their last video for “Paddling Out.” In that video, a group of unfortunates were abducted to space in an experiment to create a perfect human named Jean Noel. Following some pretty brutal chainsaw surgery, the video ended with Jean crashing to earth in a spaceship seemingly manned by classical-era twins.

Both videos were directed by Swedish Director Andreas Nillson, who’s work includes MGMT and Fever Ray. Rumours the entire plot was cooked up after a real life after hours chain saw massacre are currently unconfirmed.
