Video: Straight From the Harp – “When the Sun Comes Up”

Straight from the harp

Sex + Religion, the new EP from Berlin based Danish electro blues duo was recorded in Austin, Berlin and Copenhagen. Video: Cathedrals – “Unbound”

Check out the video for Cathedrals’ “Unbound” which is a collaboration between the band, Maria Kochetkova who is the principal ballerina in the San Francisco ballet and The Sugar Cubes light sculpture (see piece on Discovery Channel). “Unbound” was directed by Sam Pressman and the cinematographer Isaac Bauman (John Legend, Sam Smith, Drake, The Presets and Blood Orange).

“The intimacy of the lovers is the ground, the base emotion of the song – the light cubes are the rhythm, continuous in every shot of the video they remind that everyone herein is coexisting even if we so often feel separate – Maria is the spirit, up and down, dancing our worlds together – and Cathedrals are our storytellers mirroring the struggle of the lovers to find each other. ” – director Sam Pressman in FADER

Later this month, the San Francisco duo will play their first ever East Coast show at Neon Gold’s New Shapes CMJ showcase on October 23rd. Don’t miss the band live — information HERE.

Listen: Neil Young – “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?”

Neil Young

Neil Young has released a brand new studio recording titled, “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?,” via NeilYoung.com.

The new song is featured on Young’s upcoming album, STOREYTONE, which will be released this November. Details to be revealed soon. The song was originally performed at a Crazy Horse show in the U.K. this summer and more recently part of Young’s solo acoustic set at Farm Aid this past Sept 13th, at Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh North Carolina. The audience did indeed stand up and sing along in unison in support of the song’s plea to end our dependence of fossil fuels and realize our responsibility to protect our earth’s fragile eco systems to ensure the quality of life for future generations. To learn more visit: http://www.neilyoung.com/news/

Young also recorded the track backed by a 92-piece symphony and choir. Live, orchestral and solo acoustic versions of “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?” are all available via NeilYoung.com. Here are all three versions to check out:

Listen: Neil Young – “Who’s Gonna Stand Up” (Orchestral Version)

Listen: Neil Young – “Who’s Gonna Stand Up” (Live Version with Crazy Horse)

Listen: Neil Young – “Who’s Gonna Stand Up” (Acoustic)

“I’d like to make a record with a full-blown orchestra, live — a mono recording with one mic. I want to do something like that where we really record what happened, with one point of view and the musicians moved closer and farther away, the way it was done in the past. To me that’s a challenge and it’s a sound that’s unbelievable, and you can’t get it any other way,” Neil told Billboard in March.

More information to be announced soon. Until then, please enjoy “Who’s Gonna Stand Up?” Lyrics are below:

Listen: XPerience – “Evolve Away”

All Your Friends Friends

Listen: XPerience – “Evolve Away”

Olympia-based label K has announced the release of All Your Friend’s Friends, a hip hop compilation produced entirely off of samples pulled from the legendary label’s catalog. Featuring 30 seminal Northwest MCs, along with a host of hidden talent from Olympia, WA, the album will be available digitally & in stores on November 11th. It will be accompanied by a mini-documentary of the same name, available later this month.

Producer Smoke M2D6 deconstructs the classic lo-fi garage soul sound of the iconic label, artfully rearranging it over a thick foundation of classic breaks, 808’s, and heavy bass. For an early taste of the compilation, you can stream & share one of XPerience‘s contributions, “Evolve Away,” via Soundcloud. You can also watch a brand new trailer for the All Your Friend’s Friends documentary — which takes an in-depth look at the conception and making of the album through interviews with a handful of artists, including Seattle legend Macklemore — here. New Album From Electric Six

Electric Six - Human Zoo

“I find that humans are some of the most pleasant human beings I’ve ever met,” explains frontman Dick Valentine of dance rock band ELECTRIC SIX, in reference to their brand new studio album Human Zoo (Metropolis Records; release date: October 14, 2014). “I suppose we would be best served by caging an average male and average female and then we’d let them mate and then you’d grow the exhibit naturally through coitus.” For a band whose musical track record include a very NSFW video for “Body Shot”, lascivious invites to a “Gay Bar”, starting passionate fires in discos and Taco Bells (“Danger! High Voltage”), and partying with Ronald McDonald “Down At McDonaldz”, an album about the human pursuit to procreate shouldn’t prompt eye-batting. In E6’s world, it’s pretty standard issue. “We’d watch them groom each other and occasionally bicker,” he continues. “On the whole, it should be average people doing average things. There should be no way out.”

Perfectly groomed and parasite-free, Electric Six’s tenth studio album Human Zoo was produced by Johnny Na$hinal, drums were engineered and mixed by Zach Shipps, and it was mastered by Tony Hamera (The Meatmen, The Volebeats). From the Motown-infused “Alone With Your Body” to the triumphant “I’ve Seen Rio In Flames” to the rocker “Karate Lips” – Electric Six return with an album that’s packed with species of all shapes and sounds.

The band is currrently on the road on their Northeast headline tour Some Girls Do It For Love Tour to prepare their fans for the unleashing of their Human Zoo. The 13-day trek kicked off on September 29th at The Loft in Lansing, MI and concludes at Philadelphia’s Milkboy on October 11th.

Electric Six had mainstream success out of the gate with the release of their debut album Fire, which includes their smash singles “Danger! High Voltage” and “Gay Bar”. The album peaked at #5 on the U.S. Dance chart and would later reach gold certification in the UK. The band went on to release eight more albums, a live DVD that was funded via Kickstarter, and continues to tour both nationally and globally. Their tenth studio album Human Zoo is being released on October 14, 2014 via Metropolis Records.

Second Single Released From Dimond Saints

Dimond Saints 1

On Sept. 24, under the blackness of the moon, Dimond Saints released the first single from Hunters Moon, “Stop Time” . With each phase of the moon, a new single is born, until the second installment of Dimond Saints album is complete.

The  second single, “MidNight”, maintains a dreamy melodic presence throughout, yet manages to break free and twist and shift in all the right places. The Dimond Saints craft is really shining bright on “MidNight”, with crystal clear production and a lot of dynamics, that makes this a must have for any connoisseur of Future Bass music.

Dimond Saints is the new project of, An-Ten-Nae and Releece. Their grand romance with making music, pushing its boundaries, and innovative use of vocals, is garnering attention from A&R Reps and media outlets alike.

Dimond Saints’ recent  remix of “LAYLA” effortlessly levitated itself to #1 on Hypem, making a total of 5 songs  that have made the top 10 on the famed Hypem, and garnered them over 5 Million plays on Sound Cloud & Youtube combined. It is no wonder the media is gushing over the saints and have garnered over 500 write-ups in global press, blogs and online publications from Billboard to Earmilk. With a creative mine full of musical gems and a heavy release schedule, it seems as if even the moon is attainable for these Saints.
