Download: Lance Herbstrong – “The Mother”

image

Austin trio, Lance Herbstrong,  have maintained an element of funk in their tunes and at times accented it with a bit of ghetto. They’re not ones to follow patterns either – they graft the guts from a spectrum of influences into something unexpected.

Lance Herbstrong, are back at it again, fusing Xavier Rudd’s “The Mother” in to a glitchy, dubby, backbone with a history of space travel.

With Peter Di Stefano (Porno For Pyros) on guitar and Joel Cummins of Umphrey’s McGee on Keys..

This thing opens with a bang. ‘Love Letter’ leaps out at you like a Stax 45, blowing you back to the ‘60s through a funky time warp. Listen: !!! – “One Girl/One Boy”

!!!

!!! are set to release their latest album THR!!!ER on April 30, and are now sharing their single “One Girl/One Boy.” A follow up the sample-based club-floor classic tribute “Slyd”, the latest track is pure !!! gold. While working on the album in Austin with Jim Eno of Spoon, the band knew that they wanted a diva level singer for the song and Jim said he knew someone perfect, Sonia Moore, who had previously toured with MC Hammer for two and half years as a singer and dancer.

“We knew she had sang with MC Hammer and Rafael [Cohen, bassist] kept singing the “hey hey” part from “Too Legit To Quit” and we were wondering if that was who was really coming by. That was basically the first thing we asked her and she said, “Hey, Hey. Yeah, that’s me”.

Sonia joined them onstage in Austin during SXSW for their sweat-soaked dance party sets. Following the album’s release they’ll be performing in Europe, which includes a stop at ATP, before heading back to the US for a full tour which kicks off on May 16th.

Free Download: Radiation City – “Foreign Bodies”

RadiationCity

Portland’s Radiation City will release their second full-length album Animals In The Median, May 21, 2013 via Tender Loving Empire. From their use of modern electronic sounds and the restraint of classic bossa records, to the urgency and harmony of northern soul, the band has codified seemingly disparate ideas into a sound and ethos that is at once refreshing and classic

Effortlessly bending genres, Animals In The Median takes you on a journey through time. “So Long” turns Motown inside out with funky bass lines, catchy church organs and vintage vocal arrangements. The suspenseful lush orchestration of “Wash of Noise” soothes the musical palette. “Zombies” dabbles in doo-wop, flawlessly adorned with swinging handclaps and melodies.

“Foreign Bodies” makes you want to snap your fingers to sweet and simple guitar rhythms that dance side by side with cascading flute melodies over a strong even beat. Listen and download it below!
