Architecture In Helsinki is one of Australia’s most infectious and beloved pop bands. Following their internationally acclaimed 2011 album Moment Bends, the band will release their highly anticipated new album NOW + 4EVA this April via the band’s own Casual Workout.

The bands highly polished and unique pop sound reaches an even brighter level on NOW + 4EVA; as the album’s first single “Dream A Little Crazy” vibrantly attests. “Dream A Little Crazy” is a song about letting go and enjoying it thoroughly. Featuring a big sing-along chorus, Architecture in Helsinki debuted the single live at Splendour in the Grass earlier in the year and it had the crowd singing along in harmony.

Today, AIH reveal the “Dream A Little Crazy” official video, which stars frontman Cameron Bird as a mad scientist of sorts working in a bio-tech lab called “The Biological Bakery.”

“Dream A Little Crazy” and NOW + 4EVA were mixed in Los Angeles and Montreal by Francois Tetaz and Damian Taylor. Long time collaborator Tetaz is most notably known for his efforts with Gotye’s full-length album Making Mirrors as the engineer/mixer, as well as working with Kimbra. Taylor has a successful past working with Bjork, Gotye, The Killers and Arcade Fire.

A Message From Architecture in Helsinki (+ free DL)

As of last week, when we played a couple of great shows in Singapore & Indonesia, the ‘Moment Bends’ cycle has come to an end.

To everyone that came out to those shows and whistled or danced or yelled out “Why Don’t You Play More Old Stuff?” we thank you from the bottom of our collective heart. We always endeavour to put as much heart and energy into every show possible… the thing is, we really need yours, so know that your presence is always felt!

We’re super proud of everything we have made and achieved on this record. We swam with fake dolphins, walked the Red Carpet for the first time, played the Opera House & learned how to play a C chord on guitar. In fact, now when we are filling out the ‘Occupation’ section on a form we can write MUSICIAN without feeling like a fraud– suffice to say it’s been a great year!

Fast Foward to Now: This Afternoon we’ll be finished building our new studio space and straight onto making a new record!

For those of you wondering… we’re not sure what it will sound like yet, but if our listening habits are anything to go by, it will be a fusion of Korean Pop, Dolly Parton & Vangelis.

We leave you with a parting gift of this remix of “Desert Island” by our Pal / Live Sound Guy / Recording Engineer / Co-Producer, Haima.

New Video: Architecture in Helsinki – “W.O.W.”

Before embarking on their current European Tour, Architecture in Helsinki snuck off to Australia’s Gold Coast with their good friends and fellow Melburnians Krozm, who had mentioned to them earlier in the year that they’d met a Pyrotechnician who had offered them use of his Animatronic Dolphins.

As the band recount, “This sounded too good to be true, so we pinky swore that we’d make our dolphin dream a reality. We later found out that these same dolphins were used in the 90’s version of Flipper, featuring Jessica Alba, which only made the prospect of this clip more exciting.”

They add that “In a nutshell, ‘W.O.W’ acts the soundtrack to a film about one man’s quest to find answers and in turn his place in the natural universe. Somewhere along the line we convinced Cameron to make his acting debut, which included him swimming fully clothed in freezing water for a whole day.”

Next week AIH embark on their final US Tour for the Aria-nominated (for Best Pop Release) “Moment Bends,” so be sure not to miss the last opportunity to see them for quite a while.

Architecture in Helsinki have been bringing the infectious, danceable indie pop of their new album Moment Bends to the masses on their current US tour.  As they trek on, they’ve released a new remix of their beloved new single “Contact High,” done by Björn Yttling – the production wizard behind both Lykke Li albums and member of Peter, Bjorn, & John.

The Very Best

I have found my first Afropop favorite. To even call it afropop might not be exact, but I have a lack of another more suiting genre. The Very Best is Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit and they’ve caught a LOT of attention. Without promotional assistance or financial support, the collection of well-known pop, dance, afro and indie tracks remixed by Radioclit featuring Mwamwaya’s singing charted more than 300,000 downloads and was hailed by tastemakers including Pitchfork, FADER, and Gorilla vs. Bear among many others.

Their album Warm Heart of Africa is astounding. I first heard a remix of their song “Julia” and had to hear more. Then, while listening to the album I thought, “Wow, that title track sounds a lot like Vampire Weekend.” Well, YEAH! You know why? Because it features VW’s frontman Ezra Koenig, that’s why! THEN, when I heard “Kamphopo” I thought to myself, “Wow, that is the same melody that Architecture in Helsinki used for their song “Heart It Races” on their album Places Like This.” Well, YEAH! Because it IS the same! The album also features M.I.A. in “Rain Dance”.

(Hit up THIS website to hear some different kick-ass mixes of “Julia” and title track “Warm Heart of Africa” — including my favorite, a remix done for The Very Best BY Architecture In Helsinki.)

Especially with the weather finally warming up, you have GOT to listen to this album if you haven’t already. Even though you can’t understand most of the words, it’s one of the happiest things I’ve ever heard! It’s a summer playlist MUST this year. Here’s what Pitchfork had to say:

Warm Heart of Africa pictures a glittering web of connectivity where national and cultural boundaries dissolve. People care about socio-cultural chin-stroking; music does not. This record simply wants to be heard, by whomever will listen and enjoy. There’s no cynical play for authenticity, no implication that Afropop is somehow piously cordoned off from Western music. It’s a true global-pop album, and a hopeful template for things to come.
