New Track: Chromeo – “Over Your Shoulder”

1023

Following Chromeo’s advance album trailer, a joyride through the desert, beautifully shot by Surface 2 Air, starring one bride, two grooms (Chromeo’s Dave 1 and P-Thugg) and a 1987 Camaro, Montreal’s reigning funkmasters unleash the full version of the clip’s music: “Over Your Shoulder”, the first new Chromeo song in three years! This superbly produced slice of Cana-disco serves as an ode to feminine self confidence and empowerment, with Dave 1 crooning: “it’s those little imperfections that make beauty in my eyes/ I want to be in the intersection of your thighs/ and you worry about your size it’s nonsense/ it’s not a contest and besides, if it was a contest you’d win it…“.  It’s quirky, it’s genuine, it’s outlandish and straight faced all at once…suffice to say, Chromeo is back!

Since 2010’s critically acclaimed Business Casual album, it seems that the world has caught up to the brand of 80s inspired electrofunk that Chromeo has diligently been crafting for almost ten years. Their upcoming White Women LP is certainly the group’s most ambitious, as it crystallizes their unique arch, high brow-low brow aesthetic. Filled with seven-minute synth jams, orchestral arrangements, more live instrumentation than ever before and of course, hilarious lyrics, White Women also sports Dave and Pee’s catchiest pop tunes to date. Stay tuned for the first official single, “Sexy Socialite”, dropping very soon.

Check out the new song from Peelander Z, “Ride On The Shooting Star” which is described as an uplifting, coming-of-age, “get-the-girl” song. It’s from their upcoming new album Metalander-Z.

The group bills itself as a “Japanese action comic punk band” and dresses like characters on a toddler TV show. (Members’ names include Peelander-Purple, Peelander-Yellow, Peelander-Green and Peelander-Pink.)

During a concert, the guys are known to run around onstage, engage with the audience and do pretty much anything to pump up the crowd.

The album (the band’s eighth studio recording) is set for release on September 10th, 2013 via Austin’s Chicken Ranch Records. Some of the albums that inspired Metalander-Z include AC/DC’s High Voltage, Cinderella’s Night Songs, Def Leppard’s Pyromania, Iron Maiden’s Number of The Beast, Motley Crue’s Too Fast For Love, Van Halen’s 1984, and ZZ Top’s Eliminator.

Download: Leftover Cuties – “What’s The Matter?”

leftovercuties

Los Angeles-based noir-pop quartet Leftover Cuties are primed to release their sophomore full-length album, The Spark & The Fire, on July 23rd! Returning with a 12-track journey that swings easily from smoke-filled Bourbon St. speakeasies to quiet island getaways, Shirli McAllen’s silky voice provides the hook as the band’s sound pulls you in with upright bass, accordion, piano, brass, brushed drums, and yes, the ukulele.

We previously released first single “One Heart” – a powerhouse track filled with handclaps and stomping percussion. Today, we’re sharing “What’s The Matter?,” a beautifully bittersweet ode to an absent lover. The ballad shows off chanteuse Shirli’s powerful, emotive vocals alongside lush instrumentation and an irresistibly memorable chorus that fixes itself squarely in your mind (and heart!)

Listen/download: Leftover Cuties – “What’s The Matter?”

Leftover Cuties will embark on a full US tour this summer, giving new fans their first chance to see the Cuties captivating live show. The tour will start in California, with stops in New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Boston and more. The band has performed alongside Shelby Lynne, Alabama Shakes, Saint Motel, the Be Good Tanyas and many more.

Momentum continues to build for NYC’s Lucius as the band hits the road this summer making stops at several high profile US music festivals and events including the Nelsonville Music Festival, Mountain Stage, Bonnaroo, Wilco’s Solid Sound and the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival. Download: Royal Canoe – “Show Me Your Eyes”

Winnipeg-based six piece Royal Canoe have released their latest digital 7″, Purple and Gold. The digital release features two new songs, “Show Me Your Eyes” and “Summersweat.” The release also features remixes from Ryan Guldemond of Mother Mother and Tim “DJ Co op” Hoover. The 7″ is now available for purchase on the band’s official Bandcamp website as well as iTunes and will be available in physical form on October 8.

Royal Canoe is a group of musicians on a mission to construct ambitious, inventive music. The songs are thick with catchiness, rich in rhythm and are consistently pushing against the boundaries of pop music separating them from the standard indie music makers invading the internet. Having already been featured on the cover of Verb and with two singles charting on CBC Radio, Royal Canoe’s genre-defying arrangements and sharp lyrics has continued to garner the attention of media such as The Uniter which stated that “Royal Canoe have established themselves as musical mad scientists, throwing rock, pop and hip hop into a blender to create catchy-as-hell, dance floor-ready songs with odd time signatures and distorted vocals.” All the while, Indie Shuffle stated Royal Canoe have “an expertise in energetic psychedelic pop…deconstructed, slithering, intriguing.”  Listeners can check out exclusive new music teasers, studio footage and music and performance videos  found on their official youtube channel.
