Check out this sparkly new disco collab track from DJ’s Equal + LEFTI (at the bottom of post).
About Equal and LEFTI:
Equal is a New York City DJ and music producer originally from Asheville, NC. He’s previously spent his nights wooing crowds all over the world, from New York City’s hottest parties for the downtown-club kids and fashion elite, to large scale events and festivals such as Bonnaroo. As a lifetime drummer from a musically inclined family, his transition to production from solely DJ’ing was a natural one. He first garnered attention as a producer with the release of his single, “Lost in the Evening (ft. Gary Jules),” and his recent hit “Shakedown” has garnered worldwide DJ support alongside placement in outlets such as Vogue UK and a collaborative ad-campaign from Ciroc for Zoolander 2. Equal will continue to release exciting collaborations featuring indie music’s elite as the year continues.
LEFTI is a Brooklyn based Producer / DJ / Musician and Songwriter by way of Florida. Mainly known for his thrilling remixes for artists such as Anoraak, Gallant, CID, Big Data, ASTR, French Horn Rebellion and Solid Disco, LEFTI has been titled “a disco-house hero” by Dancing Astronaut and has “richly layered productions that tread the line between house, funk and indie dance” by Billboard. With only a handful of original material released (Big Beat, Atlas Chair and Mix Mash) LEFTI has already been supported by top tier DJ’s (Don Diablo, Laid Back Luke, Martin Solveig..) as well as placement in digital marketing synchronization through the likes of Hulu and Vanity Fair. LEFTI is currently set to release a string of singles in the months ahead.
Of the song:
“Collaborating on this song was a fun lil’ journey. Initially we were hanging out working on an edit which turned into a fun sample based disco track that ignited the idea to reach out to Adeline as a feature. Writing together was a blast and once we got her vocals in a great place, we realized we needed to change the instrument bed into something with a little more bite.” — Equal + LEFTI

If you’ve been a long time reader here at Musically Amusing, you know that I’ve been a HUGE fan of The Chainsmokers from the very beginning! While I LOVE their remixes, I’m pleased to bring you their second original track, “Kanye” featuring Siren (an LA based indie-pop duo).
Available on iTunes and through all digital outlets, the track follows up one of the year’s biggest songs and cultural phenomena, “#SELFIE”. However, it’s quite a departure from the cheeky, crossover club anthem that put Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall on the map.
Provocative in both its name and stirringly gorgeous sense of melody, “Kanye” fuses Siren’s divine delivery and uplifting lyrics with The Chainsmokers entrancing and enigmatic production. Moreover, there’s a very special and ultimately inspiring message at the heart of this anthem. The word “Kanye” insinuates that only you can define what makes you individually happy. What other people think doesn’t matter, and do not let anyone take that happiness away from you. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible and no judging allowed!
Pall elaborates, “We look at the word ‘Kanye’ as an adjective. The song is about what it means to be like Kanye. It’s about just owning it no matter what you’re doing. Whether you’re on top of the world partying in a penthouse or you’re driving an old car playing your favorite song, it’s about enjoying the moment you’re in and feeling like you’re the king. You embrace that confidence. We didn’t want to do something too left field after ‘#SELFIE’, but we wanted to show another side of ourselves. What Sirendoes is just beautiful, and we built the production around that. It gets the message across. Own your shit, be self-assured, and remain confident in everything you do.”
In addition, the boys have launched an Instagram and Facebook campaign with the hashtag #BeLike. They’ve included a fun quiz that you can take here!
After returning from a packed European tour where they hit stages at both Tomorrowland and Ultra, the guys are also gearing up to launch a live radio show on SiriusXM August 18. It’s called “Nice Hair with The Chainsmokers” and it will air on Electric Area. The show is unlike anything else on the air. The guys will speak candidly on the lifestyle of touring international EDM superstars, allowing listeners a vignette behind the curtain. Nothing will be held back, and their wild antics and unpredictable personalities will be on full display!
Things just keep heating up for The Chainsmokers, after MTV recently crowned the group an “Artist to Watch”. “#SELFIE” was officially certified platinum by the RIAA for digital sales in excess of 1,000,000. The song also soared to #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart within merely five weeks and reached the Top 5 on iTunes in over 43 countries. “#SELFIE” is the #6 video on YouTube’s “Top Music Videos of 2014”. Furthermore, it garnered a nomination for “Choice EDM Song” at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards and the guys have been receiving tremendous support for DJ Mag‘s “Top 100 DJs” [vote here!]
Hailing from Australia, multi-instrumentalist production duo Intergalactix consists of longtime friends & collaborators Kristian Attard & Serg Dimitrijevic. An interstellar combustion of music, space travel & vintage devices, the two collided at the beginning of 2013 in Los Angeles. Intergalactix have just announced their debut EP, IWSOM – set for release August 12th! IWSOM is a rich & melodic electro-indie record that propels the listener deep into otherworldly dimensions where futuristic-synth-visions reign supreme. You’ll enjoy it if you like Empire of the Sun.
IWSOM EP cut “Tuesday” is surefire summer dance hit, filled with infectious vocals, layers of beats & a deliciously catchy anthemic chorus.
Intergalactix have been working behind the scenes for more than a decade on projects with the likes of Cool & Dre, Good Charlotte, Jason Mraz, Heart, Earth Wind & Fire, Kelis, Allen Stone, Ariana Grande & Pras Michel (The Fugees), as well as Aussie heavyweights Jimmy Barnes & PNAU.
“Solid Gold” is the uplifting and inspiring new single from Melbourne electronic duo, Back Back Forward Punch; the follow up to their early 2014 release “Emergency Bow Tie,” which gained them international praise and the attention of one of Australia most reputable radio stations, Triple J.
“Solid Gold” seesLaura Boland employ delicate and haunting vocals to tell their story of unraveling perceptions, coming of age, and ultimately revealing that we are all imperfect heroes to someone for a short time. Andy Liddell captivates with his dynamic and intricately layered production as he gracefully shapes the track with pulsing bass lines, manipulated vocal cuts and warbling keys.
Drawing sonic parallels with the likes of Kilter, BANKS, London Grammar and The Kite String Tangle, Back Back Forward Punchhave delivered a majestic track that blurs the lines between pop, trip-hop and soul.
Hannah Thiem has released “Brym Al Mar,” the first single from her upcoming EP, BRYM. An ambient instrumental track that starts out with a passionate yet restrained and cinematic sound that builds up to an urgent and energetic drop.

Hannah is a producer and violinist whose musical stylings are influenced by her nomadic spirit and her deep appreciation for electronic and ambient soundscapes.Hannah’s upcoming album, BRYM, will be her first release as a solo artist, though her previous works and collaborations are diverse and expansive. As the co-founder of the avant rock group, Copal, as well as the ambient electronic project Nyxyss, Hannah has shared the stage with a range of artists as varied and acclaimed as The Rolling Stones, Kanye West, Bassnectar, MOBY, The Human Experience, Quixotic, and Lucent Dossier.

Little Earthquake is the brainchild of siblings Mathew and Justin Hyland, keen students of indie pop, embracing rock, electronic and acoustic instruments to bring their quirky electro-pop melodies to life.
Based on the Central Coast of Australia, the brothers grew up in bands together at school before heading to the states where they toured as guest members of US indie rockers Lydia, crossing the country and getting a taste for the road.
It was winding their way across American highways that the brothers began writing together for a new project, creating tracks which would go on to become the basis for Little Earthquake.
Returning to Australia in 2013, Little Earthquake was born, named after a Facebook status that Justin stumbled across. After reading the comments of people who agreed they had all felt it, he wanted their music to affect people in the same way.
The brothers teamed up with producer Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels, Pnau) who took their songs to a new level, creating the basis of their forthcoming EP (due out in April). One of the standout tracks from the sessions was “Planets” which would go on to become the band’s first single.
Meet Mary Jane Smith and Victor Alexander Thell. Also known as Smith & Thell for short.
Some time ago they met and fell completely head over heels in love with each other’s musical urge, ambition, vision and passion for the art. After joining forces the outcome of their musical marriage has taken many turns and looked and sounded very different and members of the collective have come and gone. At a certain point Mary and Victor decided to replace them all with machines and somewhere in this electro acoustic landscape inspired by strong influences such as Björk, Chemical Brothers and Bat For Lashes they´ve managed to give birth to something we like to call unique and very promising.
