Brand New: !!! – “Slyd”

!!!

THR!!!ER, the latest full-length album from !!! is coming out on April 30th and earlier today the band shared with fans a sneak peek into the record via the song “Slyd.” One of the only tracks on the album not recorded with Spoon’s Jim Eno, “Slyd” stands out for another reason, as a tribute to sample-based club-floor classics but with the signature !!! slyness. Rather than go through the process of clearing samples, they decided to craft their own “samples” and cram them into a pumping, never static structure. Additional vocals are supplied by singer Teresa Eggers and !!! singer Nic Offer’s former Out Hud bandmate Molly Schnick.

And something that should come as a surprise to no one, !!! are hitting the road again. They’ll be playing San Francisco’s Noise Pop on February 28th, and then cruising around Europe before heading back to the US in May and June.

“luscious, leonine, ’60s-indebted indie-pop” – SPIN

Since releasing their self-titled debut EP last year, NYC’s Lucius has toured with the likes of JD McPherson, Milo Greene, Pearl and the Beard and more, stopping to perform a breathtaking NPR “Tiny Desk Session” along the way. Fans will have more chances to experience the band’s intertwining vocals and lush, danceable instrumentation as they continue their US tour. Starting in Boston on Valentine’s Day, they will bring their explosive live show to SXSW eventually making a valiant return to NYC at Knitting Factory.

In celebration of it being featured on Grey’s Anatomy (first 2 minutes) last week, the band has released a special LIVE version of Lucius’ single “Turn It Around” as a free download.

Hollis Brown will release their debut full-length album, Ride On The Train, March 5th via Alive Records. Having already shared an early taste with album track “Down On Your Luck,” Hollis Brown has now unleashed a second new track. Featuring crooning vocals and light, dreamy instrumentation, check out their newest single, “Nightfall.”

Full of gritty jams and soft, sweet ballads, Ride On The Train opens with the title track, a triumphant song of new beginnings lead by warm, crackling guitar. “Doghouse Blues” is a straight-up bluesy rock song with rollicking melodies and dirty guitar licks. Despite its title, album track “Down On Your Luck” sets a bright, hopeful tone with twangy guitars and a playful vocal melody, while “Walk On Water” kicks it up a notch with raw vocals and screeching guitar solos. Tracks like the melancholic “If It Ain’t Me” and the powerfully optimistic “Faith & Love” showcase the band’s vulnerable side.

Having already performed alongside acts like Deer Tick and Caveman, fans will have another chance to catch Hollis Brown live on their east coast tour, which kicks off today!

Video & Download: Far East Movement – “Ain’t Coming Down (Yeah I’m Trippin’ Mix)”

Renowned “dirty bass” technicians Far East Movement and up-and-coming producer/DJ, Rell The Soundbender, teamed up for the latest dubbed out banger to hit the EDM waves, “Ain’t Coming Down (Yeah I’m Trippin’ Mix),” ft. Dirty Dutch producer Sidney Samson and Matthew Koma on vocals.

You may remember Matthew Koma’s vocals from Zedd’s monster house hit “Spectrum” while Rell The Soundbender just recently burst onto the electronic scene with his trap rave anthem, “Grimey Thirsty,” also available on SoundCloud. All together these artists create an electro infused trap anthem set to blow clubs up around the world, and the video shows us exactly what happens when the track gets played live at a raging club – complete with a piñata and all.

The electro trap track first kicked off the New Year via Earmilk and will be featured on Far East Movement’s new project, GRZZLY: The Dirtier Bass Remix Album, dropping February 2013. “We’re always looking to bring a different bounce with our sound and wanted to trip out the speakers with this mix,” says FM of their collaboration with Rell The Soundbender, of whom This Song Slaps notes “it’s just a matter of time before he is recognized as one of the biggest names in trap.”

Far East Movement have become a worldwide sensation from Australia to Austria, Asia to the Netherlands – not bad for a group who paid their dues in the LA underground. Their last album, Dirty Bass, encompasses everything FM has ever represented: the futuristic connection between dance, rap, and pop music—ideally played at a loud volume while driving at a high velocity. The electrifying music video for “Turn Up The Love” has been viewed over 36 million times on YouTube.

Download: The Hood Internet – “Pyramidspeak” (Purity Ring vs Frank Ocean)

Last year, Chicago mashup powerhouses, The Hood Internet, expanded their reach into the realm of sample-free original content with the release of their debut LP, FEAT, on Decon Records and subsequent North American tour. In 2013, they will keep the sweat-inducing dance parties aflame on their US tour in support of Pittsburgh experimental electro outsiders Black Moth Super Rainbow this May. The duo, comprised of STV SLV and ABX, will undoubtedly rile crowds with both mashups and original productions, both of which always seamlessly meld some of the industry’s most disparate acts in excitingly creative ways.

The tour kicks off on May 9th in Cleveland and will also feature previous tourmates Oscillator Bug.

Debut Album From C2C Out Today

Hot on the heels of their acclaimed Down the Road EP, C2C’s debut album, Tetra [Casablanca Records], is out digitally today (January 29) via iTunes and all digital retailers, with the physical version hitting the shelves on February 11. As a gift to listeners, the French turntable trailblazers are offering the first single “Happy” [featuring Derek Martin] as a free download (see link below). The band will also be coming over Stateside in April to perform at Coachella on April 12th and 19th. Keep an eye out for more US tour dates, coming soon!

Currently, the music video for “Happy” (which I posted here) is nearing 800K YouTube/VEVO views, and it’s firmly planted the groundwork for the French quartet’s American infiltration. Critics continue to sing their praises as well. Paper Magazine declared that C2C are “simply brilliant,” MTV Iggy called them “lush, inventive,” and Absolute Punk extolled them for being “otherworldly, astounding, and awe-inspiring.”

This isn’t their first time around the block though. C2C initially came together in 1998, formed by the four high school friends. From 2003-2006, they conquered the DMC Championship, winning four times in a row and garnering a rabid worldwide fan base. However, 2006 marked the beginning of a four-year break for other projects, Hocus Pocus and Beat Torrent, before these four musicians would reform. Now, C2C have returned, and they have their sights set on dance floor domination uniquely mixing live instrumentation and turntable fireworks.

Download: The Royal Concept – “World on Fire”

The Royal Concept is offering a free download of their brand new single “World on Fire.” Available on their official site now, the track comes from the Swedish quartet’s forthcoming full-length album for LAVA Records/Republic Records, due out later this year.
Following up the band’s acclaimed self-titled debut EP, “World on Fire” blazes with sexy synths, an ’80s-style swing, and a danceable hook. Delivered with a spark of effusive charisma and cheeky lyrics, it’s primed to heat dance floors everywhere up. Frontman David Larson sings, “I see the world has gone mad.”

The band will be sharing the stage with alternative sensations Imagine Dragons and Atlas Genius for a string of dates in February.
