New track: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – “Don’t Tell Me”

tsot

Just two weeks out from the release of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.’s sophomore LP, The Speed of Things, the guys have dropped a brand new song, “Don’t Tell Me.” DEJJ’s Josh Epstein and Daniel Zott explain: “Before we even knew we were going to make a second album we began playing this song live almost two years ago and have been dodging questions after shows about when it was going to be made available ever since.” The track premiered with Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco yesterday.

Listen: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – “Don’t Tell Me”

Paste recently championed DEJJ’s lead single, “If You Didn’t See Me, Then You Weren’t On The Dancefloor)” as one of the “Best Songs of Summer” alongside the likes of Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Vampire Weekend, and more. Teen Vogue just called out the album as one of “The Most Exciting Albums Coming Out This Fall” raving “Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. makes straightforward, infectious indie-pop that you’ll listen to again and again.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. have linked up with labelmates Atlas Genius for the “Ones To Watch Tour” this fall, which just launched this week. It includes two nights in NYC on October 10th and 11th at Irving Plaza, The Wiltern in LA November 6th and The Fillmore in SF November 7th. A full list of dates is below.

Newest Love: Ha Ha Tonka

HHT_promo_shot_lo_res_1
“ …deep-fried vocals effortlessly ride a bright, pinched melody” SPIN

“stripped-down, rustic instrumentation to provide the bedding for an immersive listening experience” – Paste Magazine

“southern rock meets The Cure.” – My Old Kentucky Blog

Ha Ha Tonka is an unmistakable indie-meets-Southern rock band comprised of Brett Anderson, Lennon Bone, Lucas Long and Brian Roberts. Sitting at the crossroads of Americana and indie- where Alabama meets Arcade Fire- the quartet are primed for the release of their highly anticipated fourth full-length album, Lessons, on September 24th via Bloodshot Records. The album was recorded at Bright Eyes’ ARC Studios in Omaha, Nebraska and in NYC with producers Dan Molad (Lucius) and The Ryantist.

With the previously revealed album title track described by ELLE as “a steady, rhythmic rocker”, the band has just shared new album track “Rewrite Our Lives” with Paste Magazine. An upbeat, energetic cut containing a runaway chorus & an atmospheric, massive sound akin to that of the great American railroad dream, you can hear the track below (and download it for free in exchange for an email address).

Sonically, Lessons marks a departure from Ha Ha Tonka’s more stripped down style to one that is filled with lush instrumentation. As the title implies, the inspiration behind Lessons stems from life’s biggest ones. Motivated by late illustrator and renowned children’s author Maurice Sendak’s musings on the creative process and what it means to be an artist, the band captured this message and the fragile, oft-irrational comedy of life in sonic form.

Ha Ha Tonka has become renowned for its authentic, effortless brand of indie-Americana, seamlessly fusing the traditional with modern, contemporary elements. Having played alongside the likes of Old 97s, Murder By Death, Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin & more, Ha Ha Tonka will take to the road this fall on a full North American tour (check out the dates below)!

Remix: Escort – “Cabaret” (Jacques Renault Remix)

Escort_Lo_Res_Press_Photo_6

NYC’s Escort delivers a danceable blend of disco, funk & soul that pays homage to the classics while remaining fresh and modern. The Cabaret single package, featuring remixes by Little Boots, Jacques Renault and Tippy Toes, will drop September 24 via Escort Records.

The band previously shared the “sexcapade inspired” “Cabaret” stream. Today, the band reveals the dreamy remix by fellow Brooklyn native Jacques Renault with Refinery29. Driven by thumping bass and Adeline Michèle’s powerful, soulful voice, “Cabaret” transports listeners into a gritty, underground, late-night soiree in the uninhibited heyday of NYC nightlife.

Video: The Fratellis – “Seven Nights, Seven Days”

fratellis

The Fratellis are back with a new album We Need Medicine, slated for release on October 8 through BMG. The new single I posted a couple weeks ago, “Seven Nights Seven Days” exemplifies The Fratellis’ innate ability to write rousing anthems; fast paced, with country guitar hooks and distinctive vocals – topped off with a memorable, to-the-point catchy chorus. The video has just been released and was shot on the streets of North London and directed by Alex Williams. The slapstick dark romance mini-film stars renowned British actor and director, Nick Nevern who has starred in multiple films and TV shows, most recently he wrote, directed and starred in “The Hooligan Factory”.

Check out the new song from Peelander Z, “Ride On The Shooting Star” which is described as an uplifting, coming-of-age, “get-the-girl” song. It’s from their upcoming new album Metalander-Z.

Listen/download: Peelander Z – “Ride On The Shooting Star”

The group bills itself as a “Japanese action comic punk band” and dresses like characters on a toddler TV show. (Members’ names include Peelander-Purple, Peelander-Yellow, Peelander-Green and Peelander-Pink.)

During a concert, the guys are known to run around onstage, engage with the audience and do pretty much anything to pump up the crowd.

The album (the band’s eighth studio recording) is set for release on September 10th, 2013 via Austin’s Chicken Ranch Records. Some of the albums that inspired Metalander-Z include AC/DC’s High Voltage, Cinderella’s Night Songs, Def Leppard’s Pyromania, Iron Maiden’s Number of The Beast, Motley Crue’s Too Fast For Love, Van Halen’s 1984, and ZZ Top’s Eliminator.

New Tour Dates and Remix From Smallpools

img_smallpools_140923833534

Smallpools, the Los Angeles 4-piece announce two new tours today. After headlining the sold out Neon Gold’s Popshop West party on September 4th, the band will divide their time between the studio working on the full-length debut and touring with Walk The Moon in October and 21 Pilots in November.  The foursome consist of Sean (vocals/keys), Mike (guitar), Joe (bass) and Beau (drums), just finished their tour with San Cisco to a wild response. The release of their self-titled debut EP gained them critical acclaim. Neon Gold calls “Mason Jar” “a sepia splash of power-pop that crystallizes into a starscraping smash before the verse even kicks in, as stadium-sized Of Monsters And Men gang vocals ride high on the buoyant flair of Smallpools’ youthful, Two Door-esque ebullience.”

Their first single “Dreaming” was produced by Captain Cuts and instantly shot to #1 of Hype Machine within the first 3 days of its revealing. Check out where I originally posted “Dreaming” and a couple other remixes here AND check out the latest remix below.
