Tycho and Portugal. The Man Live in the Moment

Ghostly International recording group Tycho has united with Portugal. The Man for two extraordinary remixes of the GRAMMY Award-winning group’s current smash single, “Live In The Moment.” Tycho has crafted a pair of distinct new musical visions – “Live In The Moment (Sunrise)” and “Live For The Moment (Sunset)” – that both showcase the acclaimed Portland rockers original song while pushing it forward via the GRAMMY® Award-nominated dance/electronic project’s own distinctive approach.

“Live In The Moment (Sunrise)” and “Live For The Moment (Sunset)” are available today at The Ghostly Store as well as all digital music retailers and streaming services.

“As a producer and musician who primarily creates instrumental songs I jumped at the chance to work with Portugal. The Man’s unique vocal style,” says Scott Hansen, Tycho’s primary composer, songwriter, and producer. “I try to approach remixes in a way that casts the original song in a new light while staying true to its core elements.  Getting to explore totally different spaces with these two versions, it allowed me to better express my take on the song. I wanted to create a lighter, more energetic version (Sunrise) and darker, more introspective one (Sunset) to highlight and contrast the parts of the original song that most inspired me.”

“Live In The Moment” — featured on Portugal. The Man’s eighth studio album WOODSTOCK — is the follow up to the album’s lead single “Feel It Still,” which was undoubtedly one of the biggest songs of 2017. “Live In The Moment” is currently shaping up to be a multi-format chart smash, which includes a top 5 spot at Alternative radio and #1 at Triple A.

alt-J Tour Dates

alt-J announces a headlining tour of North America starting on April 7 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, CO. The tour includes festival stops at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Firefly and Mountain Jam. A show at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY will mark the largest venue the band has headlined in North America (see more info on that below).

On top of touring, alt-J are currently at work with various collaborators on a re-interpretation of their most recent album Relaxer. More news on this album coming soon.

ALT-J ANNOUNCES SHOW AT FOREST HILLS STADIUM IN NEW YORK ON JUNE 15 WITH SPECIAL GUEST KAMASI WASHINGTON

VENUE SOUND WILL BE AUGMENTED BY THE USE OF IMMERSIVE HYPERREALISM TECHNOLOGY

alt-J announces a unique concert at Forest Hills Stadium on June 15. It will mark the largest venue the band has ever headlined in North America, and is the only immersive sound show in the continent. In another first for the band, the show will feature a surround speaker system enveloping the entire audience. The speakers will be used throughout the show to position sound effects mixed into a variety of the band’s material, thus creating an immersive sound experience. The band has recently won the prestigious ‘Knights Of Illumination’ award for lighting production in an arena, which will also be featured at this show. For this special event, the entire venue will be general admission, including floor and bowl, so that fans can enjoy the show from every angle.

Additionally, the band is happy to announce that Kamasi Washington will be appearing as special guest on the bill.

alt-J is Joe Newman, Gus Unger-Hamilton and Thom Green.  Their first album An Awesome Wave won the prestigious Mercury Prize in the UK and sold Gold in the US and Canada.  Their second album, This Is All Yours received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative album was certified Gold by the RIAA in the US. The band’s third album Relaxer was released in June, 2017

Video: AWOLNATION – “Seven Sticks Of Dynamite”

Multi-platinum band AWOLNATION have shared the official music video for the track “Seven Sticks Of Dynamite”, which is taken from the band’s third studio album Here Come The Runts out February 2nd, 2018 via Red Bull Records.

The video was directed by Riley Harper (Hollywood stunt-double for titles such as Little Miss Sunshine, Straight Outta Compton, Sons of Anarchy etc) alongside frontman Aaron Bruno. The video was filmed at The Old Place in Agoura Hills, CA and features legendary tattoo artist Dr Woo, Rick Rubin, and Duff McKagan. Inspired by campy bar brawls in old western movies, the video centers around dueling biker and surfer gangs and, like the song the video builds to an epic climax sure to entertain.

“I’ve always wanted to make a video at The Old Place with all of my friends and showcase the spirit of old California,” says Aaron Bruno. Director Riley Harper adds, “It’s pretty awesome when you get to film a bar brawl, but when you have free reign to shoot it at your local watering hole with all of your friends, that’s just a recipe for a good time and a great outcome!”

Here Come The Runts will be available everywhere February 2nd, 2018. Fans can pre-order the album at awolnationmusic.com and receive instant downloads of “Seven Sticks Of Dynamite,” as well as “Passion“.

In support of Here Come The Runts, AWOLNATION will be embarking on a headlining tour with support from Nothing But Thieves on February 11th in Toronto, and touring the States until mid-March before crossing the pond for a European/UK run throughout the month of April. Video: Public Access TV – “Metrotech”

Public Access TV has shared a video for their new single “MetroTech” off of their highly anticipated sophomore album Street Safari, due out in February 2018.
 
The video features Kevin Corrigan (Buffalo 66, Pineapple Express, The Departed) dancing through the dimly lit streets of the city.
 
“Max (bassist from PATV) met Kevin randomly while day-drinking alone at some dive bar. Kevin was there by himself as well and eventually they started talking and spent the rest of the day hanging at this bar. Max then “night walked” home and the next day when he told John the story, the video idea and everything was created.”

The story of Public Access TV seems like it was written for an episode of Behind The Music. A group of friends drop out of high school and catch a New York City bound bus with dreams of starting a band. What follows is a frenzy of press hype, label bidding wars, a critically-acclaimed debut album, sold-out tours, and festival slots around the world. 

But as all viewers of any music doc surely know, there is always a darker side to the story, and PATV is no exception. Addiction, recovery programs, public brawls (mostly with one-another), a devastating explosion that destroyed all their earthly possessions, and a car crash behind the wheel of an 80’s convertible…a lifetime packed into a one-album cycle. Now for part two, Public Access TV’s sophomore album: Street Safari.
 
The band, comprised of frontman and lead-singer John Eatherly, Xan Aird, Max Peebles, and Pete Star, entered the studio to record the new album in fall 2017 with Producer Patrick Wimberly (Beyonce, Chairlift, MGMT, Blood Orange) armed with a plethora of songs they’d written documenting the tumultuous last few years of their lives. The first single “Metrotech” previews the more expansive palette the band is working with on their new album. 

“I think it’s a cop-out to say that this is our mature album, or whatever cliche thing it is that bands say about their second album.” says Eatherly. “There was no spiritual awakening or come-to-Jesus moment. We’re four young guys trying to figure our lives out, be good people, and a lot of the time find ourselves coming up short. Expressing this through songwriting is the challenge and I can only hope the deliverance.”

New Music From Typhoon

Check out the latest single “Rorschach” from Typhoon.

The video concept is a play on “the idea of being stuck inside your subconscious, fixated on one memory, while questioning it over and over again.”

“Rorschach” is the first single taken off of “Floodplains“, the opening 4-track movement (released last month) from Typhoon’s forthcoming LP, Offerings. Following the critically-acclaimed White Lighter, Offerings will be the band’s first full-length release in over four years and will be out on Jan 12, 2018.

The band have also just announced their upcoming North American and UK/EU tours for Winter 2018.

On the heels of their “Kim” + “On A Farm” single package released last month on Never Grow Up Records, Philadelphia five-piece Joy Again announce a North American tour supporting Rostam this winter. Before they hit the road with Rostam, Joy Again will bring their kinetic live energy on a co-headlining tour with Furnsss, set to kick off on November 13th. See below for a full date listing.

Produced by long-time collaborator Caleb Laven (Frank Ocean’s Blonde & Endless), the “Kim” + “On A Farm” single package finds Joy Again honing their creative vision and propelling their artistic output beyond the underground. Emerging with an infectious new sound that truly finds them coming into their own, the band released their debut EP earlier this year which earned praise from the likes of FADER, NME, and DIY Magazine.

Founded in 2015 after its members met in boarding school, Joy Again released debut singles “Looking Out For You” and “How You Feel” on Mom + Pop (US) and Lucky Number (UK). Their vivid storytelling and seemingly effortless command of melody charmed the internet and saw them dubbed a “staple of the Philly basement scene” as they continued to garner attention on the international scale. The band has performed with the likes of Car Seat Headrest, Hinds, Daywave, and Hoops.

Video: Milky Chance – “Bad Things” feat. Izzy Bizu

The multiplatinum-certified German duo Milky Chance teamed up with British singer Izzy Bizu for their latest single “Bad Things” which comes complete with a clever new music video. “The inspiration for ‘Bad Things’ came from a feeling of finding yourself repeatedly stuck in the same kind of situation.” explains Clemens, continuing “It’s a tiring, going-around-in-circles-tragedy. In the end, it‘s always up to you to find the way out, but this song is a shout out to that person who’s always there whilst you work it out.”

“Bad Things” is quintessential Milky Chance. The track showcases the band’s talent for combining catchy as hell analogue folk with contemporary electronic production to create real earworms. The message is simple – very good things can happen when you team up with someone else to tackle the difficult stuff life throws at us. Trouble never sounded this good.

Obsessed: Tourist’s Newest EP, Wash

UK-based producer and composer Tourist has released his latest Wash EP, as well as the visuals for featured track “Sleepwalking” (feat. Swim Mountain & Esther Joy). Last month Tourist revealed a collection of “We Stayed Up All Night” remixes, including versions from Tom Demac and Matthew Dear on Beatport here, offering new takes on his EP’s lead single. Tourist recently wrapped a string of US tour dates supporting Bonobo and Bob Moses, his first shows in the states since his stellar Coachella performance earlier this year.

The GRAMMY-winning songwriter and electronic musician William Phillips aka Tourist had this to say:

With this new music I wanted to make something that was more reflective of who I am now and how my life has changed over the past year. I moved out of my windowless studio and started writing from home again. I think subconsciously I’ve started writing more joyous, colorful music and I’ve loved being more collaborative once again. These tracks are my favorite music I’ve produced so far, Tourist will always change with each release and I’ve loved pushing the sound into a new place.

Tourist makes yearning, bittersweet dance tracks. He’s considered an “artist’s artist”, with fans such as Flume and Porter Robinson supporting his releases. After the self-titled debut EP (2012), Tonight EP (2013), and Patterns EP (2014) featuring guest appearances by Lianne La Havas and Will Heard, as well as high-profile remixes for Chvrches, Haim, Christine and the Queens under his belt, Tourist went on to win the GRAMMY for co-writing the Sam Smith hit “Stay With Me”, and he released his debut album U (2016) to critical acclaim and support from outlets like Vice, Billboard and Rolling Stone Australia.

The single, “Run” landed with #1 spots on BBC Radio 1 dance charts and Hype Machine. This was soon followed by a string of sold-out shows as a live favorite across the United States, Europe and Australia, including major festival appearances at Glastonbury, Coachella (twice) and Bestival.

Advance Streaming: Blitzen Trapper – Wild and Reckless

On November 3, the Portland, OR-based Blitzen Trapper will release Wild & Reckless, a new album born of their staged musical of the same title and also a companion to their 2008 breakthrough album Furr. Today, NPR Music premiered the album in its entirety as a First Listen and called it “a sprawling, sumptuous testament to Weird America.”

The New York Times said, “Missing Tom Petty? He lives on in Blitzen Trapper’s Wild and Reckless, an accomplished slice of classic rock that unabashedly sounds like Mr. Petty singing a Springsteen song with the Heartbreakers’ California guitars and a harmonica intro from Neil Young.”

Consequence of Sound said, “Music-wise, the song is the equivalent of an adrenaline shot of invincibility — the kind of anthem people turn up loud in the car as they’re speeding off to some unknown destination, the wind’s blow their only guidance.”

The album Wild & Reckless was born from the stage production that the band spent the better part of a year producing. The half musical, half rock-opera dealt with heroin abuse, desperation, true love and western power structures. The story evoked a bygone era of Portland with this sci-fi love story, featuring a rock-and-roll score that paired unreleased songs with favorites from the band’s catalog.

Following the success of the production, the band took 7 original songs from the production and developed the theme further into the 12 songs that comprise the new album Wild & Reckless.

Frontman Eric Earley also sees the record as a companion and extension of their 2008 album Furr. “Wild and Reckless is something like a cross-eyed stepchild to Furr, in that it chronicles the darker dystopian stories of rural and suburban west coast death-drive via a riffing psychedelic landscape. Ten years after Furr with all its talk of murder and the end of the western world, it seems there’s more to tell.”

Blitzen Trapper is Eric Earley (songwriter/singer), Erik Menteer (guitar, keyboard), Brian Adrian Koch (drums, vocals), Michael Van Pelt (bass) and Marty Marquis (keyboard, vocals). Wild & Reckless was produced by Eric Earley and Michael Van Pelt and was recorded by Gregg Williams at the Trench, in Portland, OR. It was mixed by James Brown (Foo Fighters, Kings Of Leon, Blitzen Trapper’s All Across This Land) at The Union.

The band will embark on a national tour with select support from Lilly Hiatt this winter to celebrate the release of the album. Find a full list of tour dates below.
