Interview: Youngblood Hawke

Youngblood Hawke has a shiny brand new self-titled debut EP out TODAY! The quintet’s anthemic new single “We Come Running” is iTunes’ official Single Of The Week and is available for a FREE download.

Click here to go download it.

You can also buy the EP here.

MA: What do you think about the success of “We Come Running”?

YBH: It’s unexpected!  We felt really close to the song and knew people would connect with it on some level, but the response has been overwhelming!  We couldn’t be happier with how people are responding!

MA: What’s the first thing you want to do when the debut EP is released? (That’s TODAY!)

YBH: Sit in the sun for a second… open a beer, deep breath.  Drink it.  Chill out for like 15 more minutes, then head back into the studio and keep writing!  Can’t stop!

MA: What’s been your summer theme song?

YBH: Brett Dennen – Must be Losing My Mind.  Soul and bass grooves for days.

MA: I just interviewed your labelmates The Royal Concept. Do you know their song, “Gimme Twice”?

YBH: Sounds rad!  Just listened!  Picked up on the Phoenix influence.  Solid jam!

MA: What’s your favorite food to eat in a hurry?

YBH: Fast food?  Um, those Natural Valley nature bars.  Oat’s N Honey booooy!

MA: What are you most looking forward to right now? (It can be anything; something in the next hour, the next few days, weeks, years…)

YBH: I most looking forward to traveling.  Im so anxious to get out there and start playing for different crowds.  See new things!  Meet new people!  Also, I’m going to Subway in about 17 minutes.

MA: What’s your next goal…no matter how big or small?

YBH: My next goal is to chase down and shatter Usain Bolt’s 100m world record.

MA: What song from your new album do you think fans will love the most (that hasn’t been heard yet)?

YBH: I can’t wait for people to hear “Dreams” or “Apache Heart.”  Haven’t locked in a name yet.  It shows a different side of us.  Its funky, eery, dancy and has an surprise guest feature!

Video: MIKA – “Celebrate” ft. Pharrell

MIKA has just released the video for “Celebrate”, from his forthcoming album The Origin of Love, due out on Universal Republic on October 16. “Celebrate” is an epic slice of cool modern pop that is already a hit in Europe. The song was written by Mika and produced by Nick Littlemore from Empire of the Sun and features Pharrell Williams on vocals. Mika recently performed it at the Olympics.

Mika has commissioned a short film to accompany one of the songs from the new album. “Make You Happy” which can be seen by clicking here. Another track from the album Elle Me Dit was released in France last year, reaching #1 and becoming one of the biggest tracks of summer there.

A further Mika composition from the album writing sessions ‘Gang Bang’ features exclusively on Madonna’s new MDNA album, a track which she has widely praised as her favorite song on the record.

Mika spent most of 2010 and 2011 on a massive Global tour playing hundreds of shows to sell-out audiences across Europe, Asia and North America. He will be debuting songs from the new album at his shows this summer. There will be a US tour this fall.

Montreal’s Men Without Hats will soon be taking their timeless performance back on the road in support of their new album Love In The Age of War (out now on Cobraside Records).  During 2011’s “Dance If You Want” tour, Men Without Hats opened every show with their single “This War.” Today, they are sharing the single, which just premiered on AOL’s Spinner, in honor of their upcoming tour dates. Produced by Dave “Rave” Ogilvie (Skinny Puppy, Marilyn Manson), Love In The Age of War features charismatic front man Ivan (voice & electronics), his brother Colin Doroschuk (vocals), as well as Lou Dawson (vocals & live keyboards), and James Love (guitars). In 2011, Men Without Hats soared back into the scene with their breakout performance at SXSW, followed by an extensive, well-received North American tour.

Since forming in the late 70’s, the band released six studio albums – having songs featured on hit TV series such as Glee, The Simpsons, Futurama and Family Guy. Their 1980’s hit “The Safety Dance” reached Top 10 in the US, the UK and 25 other countries around the world. Their 1987 hit “Pop Goes The World” reached the top 20 in the US and Canada. Brand New: The Presets – “Youth in Trouble”

“Youth In Trouble”  is the first taste of new music to come from The Presets in over four years. The track is a never-ending, undulating slice of face-melting techno. Their new album, Pacifica, is due out in September on Casablanca. After several teasers, the band has also premiered of the full video for “Youth In Trouble”, a crazy kaleidoscopic pixilated rollercoaster created by New York based visual artist Yoshi Sodeoka.

The Presets are also releasing remixes of “Youth In Trouble” by Green Velvet, Alex Metric, plus The Finger Prince & Light Year.  Featuring ten prismatic, synth-laced songs, Pacifica sees The Presets boldly venture into new, uncharted musical territories. Free Download: Chris Price – “Homesick”

Chris Price is releasing his solo debut, Homesick, on PTB Records today. Stepping away from the traditional high-priced studio recording methods, Price recorded his entire album on a device most have in their backpocket or purse – an iPhone. Though he never anticipated recording his debut on an iPhone, Price was impressed with the devices quality and, with the help of 4Track Audio Recorder, began recording with his own personal, mobile studio.

Chris’ track, “That’s Your Boyfriend” was featured as iTunes download of the week and Price will be traveling to various Apple stores in the summer to both perform and demonstrate how to record on the iPhone.
