FULL TRACK: The Chain Gang of 1974 – “Sleepwalking”

GTA

The Chain Gang of 1974, the moniker of genre-jumping singer & multi-instrumentalist Kamtin Mohager, is making headlines with his enthralling new single “Sleepwalking” which is featured on the new television commercial for Grand Theft Auto V. The commercial has been in constant rotation since its debut earlier this month during a new episode of “Breaking Bad,” and the song is the most popular on Grand Theft Auto V’s soundtrack, on sale now at iTunes. “Sleepwalking” is the first single from The Chain Gang of 1974’s highly anticipated sophomore LP Daydream Forever, which is due out February 4 on Warner Bros Records.

The Chain Gang of 1974 just finished a run of West Coast dates with The Vaccines, and is gearing up for a week-long trek with Sir Sly, kicking off October 8 in San Francisco. See below for details.

Daydream Forever was produced by Isom Innis (Foster The People), with additional production and mixing from Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix). Earlier this summer, Neon Gold unveiled a first look at the new album, by premiering the song “Miko.” Watch the official lyric video for it below:

The new album is the anticipated follow-up to The Chain Gang of 1974’s widely acclaimed 2011 debut Wayward Fire, which Esquire declared “one of the summer’s most surprisingly fantastic new records,” and earned similar praise from the likes of SPIN, MTV, FADERNYLONRCRD LBL and more. The band has shared the stage with the likes of Foster the People, Big Audio Dynamite, Tapes N Tapes, and The Naked and Famous, as well as a lauded performance at 2011’s Lollapalooza, which Yahoo proclaimed “a fabulous onstage display.”

Highly Anticipated: New Coldplay Track For The Hunger Games: Catching Fire!

Capitol-Portraits-The-Hunger-Games-Catching-Fire

Multiplatinum recording artist Coldplay will release the first track from the official soundtrack album for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, it was announced today by Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) and Republic Records, marking the first time Coldplay has ever recorded an original song for a motion picture. The song, titled “Atlas,” is scheduled to be available via iTunes and all digital retailers on August 26, 2013.  Republic Records is again teaming up with Lionsgate to release the soundtrack in advance of Lionsgate distributing the film on screens worldwide on November 22, 2013.

“I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film,” said filmmaker Francis Lawrence. “Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can’t wait to share this music with audiences around the world.”

“We are so honored that Coldplay, one of the iconic rock bands of our generation, will perform the first song out on the new soundtrack,” said Tracy McKnight, Lionsgate’s Head of Film Music. “Knowing that Chris Martin is a fan of the books makes this even more meaningful.  The Coldplay single underscores the stature of recording artists we’ve assembled for this powerful soundtrack.”

Monte Lipman, Chairman & CEO of Republic Records, stated, “The creative alliance between Coldplay and The Hunger Games franchise will create a level of excitement and anticipation of epic proportions.”

Coldplay is one of the top recording artists of recent times, selling over 60 million records worldwide and winning seven Grammy Awards and five MTV Video Awards, among other honors.  They are signed to Parlophone, the legendary label known for The Beatles, Radiohead, Queen, David Guetta and more.

The first installment of The Hunger Games was the 13th highest-grossing North American release of all time on its way to grossing nearly $700 million at the worldwide box office.

This is the first in a series of highly anticipated announcements of the new artists to be revealed in the coming weeks.

The first Hunger Games partnership between Republic Records and Lionsgate yielded the Grammy Award-winning, chart-dominating The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 And Beyond executive produced by T Bone Burnett.

The album hit #1 on the Billboard Top 200 on its release with sales over 175,000, making it the first soundtrack to top the chart since November 2009.  It was the best-selling soundtrack of 2012, the fastest selling soundtrack ever at iTunes, and was certified gold by the RIAA shortly after its release. The album earned a Golden Globe Award nomination and three Grammy Award nominations, and its first single, Taylor Swift’s “Safe & Sound” featuring The Civil Wars, won the 2013 Grammy Award for “Best Song Written for Visual Media”.

ABOUT THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson).  Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts.  Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.  The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has sold over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.

Video: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Partners with Funny or Die To Premiere Video for “Dancefloor”

361
Detroit’s affable duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. have partnered with Funny Or Die for a rare FOD music video premiere for “If You Didn’t See Me (Then You Weren’t On The Dancefloor),” which launched this morning. The clip follows two cops, actors John Ennis (Mr. Show, Tenacious D) and Jay Johnston (Anchorman, Men in Black II, Arrested Development), as they attempt to hunt down Josh and Daniel of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and put a stop to their party time shenanigans at “The Dancefloor.” It was directed by pro skateboarder turned video director Laban Pheidias of Occupy Films, who has previously worked with Justin Timberlake, Blake Shelton and Alicia Keys.

“Making this video was an epic day in sunny Los Angeles” explains the band. “We wore more make up than we had cumulatively worn in our entire lives prior to filming this, and got to hang out with some of the most talented comedians we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.  It was a really wonderful day, even when you factor in the food poisoning that Josh and the Director got form the craft services table. While the original intention of the video was not necessarily centered around humor, the energy of the actors we ended up being able to work with brought it to a great new place.”

Buzzing DJ/producer/vocalist AMTRAC is the latest to remix “If You Didn’t See Me (Then You Weren’t On The Dancefloor), check out his vibed out treatment of the track, perfect for summer mixtapes.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. are playing a handful of summer festivals in August, then will be joining label mates Atlas Genius on the “Ones to Watch” tour through November, including back-to-back shows at NYC’s Irving Plaza.

Show: Fitz and the Tantrums

6755_10151534410907313_2034320834_n

I came really super close to not being able to make it to this sold out show here in Pittsburgh this past Monday. And oh, let me just say, I would have thrown some MAJOR fits and tantrums if I had missed this!

But, my friends over at BB Gun Press totally saved the day and helped this girl out. And I couldn’t have been any happier. If you keep up with my ramblings, you’d know that I couldn’t WAIT to see Fitz and the Tantrums perform “The Walker” live. At one point, I really thought they weren’t going to play it, either! They waited until the very end, and performed it for one of their encores! Which, surprised me because I thought I’d hear “The Walker” earlier and they would save “Out Of My League” for an encore. BUT, they played it earlier, and “Moneygrabber” was the second song in their set. Oh, and they did a pretty awesome cover of Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams,” too.

I really wanted to upload the video of “The Walker”…BUT:

  •  It sort of got screwed up and ended up being split into two videos.
  • My phone isn’t letting me upload it.
  • Anddddd you can hear me screaming like a maniac that just got let out of a mental institution.

So, here’s a few pics instead.

Also, I don’t wanna forget to shout out to the opening bands of the evening, too. Ivy Levan was beautiful and wonderful!

Here’s a pic from her Twitter:

Downloads: Smallpools – “Dreaming” Remixes

smallpools1

Smallpools has announced their 4-song self-titled debut EP release on July 16th via RCA Records. In honor of the news, the band decided to share a brand new “Dreaming” remix by The Chainsmokers and last week NYLON Magazine premiered the Charli XCX vs Twin Idol Remix of “Dreaming”. The band will reveal another brand new EP track before the start of their first tour.

The four-piece outfit founded in Los Angeles with ties to New York, New Jersey and Oregon. Last week Smallpools announced their first ever live shows, a tour with Australia’s San Cisco that will take them from the East Coast to Canada, through the Mid West and San Francisco and ends in Los Angeles. The brand new band consists of Sean (vocals/keys), Mike (guitar), Joe (bass) and Beau (drums).

Their first single “Dreaming” was produced by Captain Cuts. The song instantly shot to #1 of Hype Machine within the first 3 days of revealing. The band explains the song: “In contrast to the upbeat vibe of the music, the song talks about a moment where everything goes wrong in a situation where you thought you had it all figured out.  A moment we’ve all experienced to some degree, but most often if we’re lucky, in a dream where we get to wake up in a sweat and say, “Phewf, ok, that wasn’t real.” “

Brand New: Duck Sauce

Click on image to go buy the track on iTunes

Finally!!! Duck Sauce, the Grammy-nominated duo consisting of Fool’s Gold trendsetting boss A-Trak and house legend Armand Van Helden, are putting the final touches on their debut studio album, Quack, due for release this fall on Casablanca records. Together they shuffle into the summer with the absurdly catchy single “It’s You” and an equally bonkers, hair-raising video by acclaimed director Philip Andelman.

“It’s You” properly follows in the webbed footsteps of Duck Sauce’s past video hits, including 2011’s VMA nominated, comically grotesque “Big Bad Wolf” and the viral smash “Barbra Streisand” in 2010. The stadium-filling whistle of “Barbra” remains one of the biggest dance tracks of the last decade, racking up over 100 million YouTube plays and hitting #1 in 12 countries.

Duck Sauce plan to shake things up with Quack, coming later this year. This isn’t your typical dance album: Quack pushes the boundaries of house music and sampling into an absurdly visual listening experience, interwoven with skits, scratching and irresistible loops. Expect many more videos from the pair of New York prankster pioneers.
