Highly Anticipated: This Is Happening

LCD Soundsystem’s new album This Is Happening, was supposed to be released in March, but was pushed back to May. So now, in about a week, we’ll be able to have it (May 18th).

Sadly, James Murphy has informed the music community that this will be his fourth and last album as LCD Soundsystem. I can’t help but to feel sad that ‘this is happening’. 😦

Read an interview with him from Clash Magazine here

ALSO…click here to preview the whole album! I have a feeling I’m going to wear it out this summer!

Track Listing:

1. Dance Yrself Clean (Starts off slow, then surprises you with a ‘BAM!’ into some loud dance music)

2. Drunk Girls (Has some musical elements very similar to “North American Scum”)

3. One Touch

4. All I Want

5. I Can Change* (Reminiscent to the likes of Erasure, Yaz, The Cure, Love & Rockets, etc.)

6. You Wanted a Hit*

It sounds a little different than what you might expect, but it’s still good and catchy…and robotic. BOOM!

Newest Love: The Amplifetes

The Amplifetes are a brand new 4-piece band from Sweden. Being accomplished songwriters and producers on their own, the members have worked with names such as Kelis, Madonna, Grandmaster Flash and Peter Bjorn and John. While having occasionally crossed paths during the course of their careers, they have existed as a unit for about a year. The band think of themselves as a dreamteam collaboration of their influences – listing 60s Psychadelia, The Electric Light Orchestra, The Ramones, Elvis Costello, David Bowie and Chicago Trax Records House releases.

The highly addictive result can be heard in The Amplifetes debut single “It´s My Life“, a spitting image of urban life and a happy three-part marriage between garage pop, electro and punk. It was featured recently in a promo campaign for Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli, starring a lightly dressed Milla Jovovich, creating quite a stir over Europe.
Watch the video for their second single, “Whizz Kid”  HERE and fall in love like I have!

Newest Love: Rene Lopez

Though only recently launching his solo career, Rene Lopez is one of the more enduring figures on the New York music scene. He has been writing and performing music in New York since the early 90s when he was part of The Authority, a cult favorite and staple of venues like Nightingales and The Wetlands. More recently, Rene’s high-energy solo shows at Nublu have earned Rene a reputation as one of the best performers in The Lower East Side and The East Village, playing a version of latin soul that pays tribute to the that area’s past. In many ways, it’s musical style that’s at the heart of his upbringing. The son of a trumpet player in the Latin band Tipica ‘73, Bronx native Rene grew up in the salsa clubs of New York City and from the first moment he stepped inside a club, Rene was hooked on live music, and choosing to spend his life creating it “felt so natural that there was never a thought that I would do anything else.” His father’s influence, along with the influences of Rene’s own favorite artists, contributes to a unique and distinct sound all Rene’s own. (From: MusicRemedy)

Rene’s new album People Are Just People, will be out May 4th through Liberation Label. Click here to check out the video for his new single from the album “Wednesday.”  Honestly, I hadn’t really listened to Rene’s stuff previously, but after listening to “Wednesday” and checking out some of his other stuff, I’m a big, big fan. It’s catchy, it’s happy, it’s fun. Think Lou Bega but even cooler.

Aaaaand, if you’re in New York, be sure to check out his release party at Nublu on the day of the release, May 4th.
