New Video: VHS or Beta – “Breaking Bones”

VHS or Beta’s upcoming album, Diamonds & Death, is a journey full of thrilling moments and unexpected turns. The album’s electronic foundation is a byproduct of the many nights VHS OR BETA DJs have manned the decks and remixes they have done in the last few years. The self-produced album travels spectacular heights to gut-wrenching plunges and is an emotional rollercoaster. The songs unfold and mutate in unpredictable ways that will transfix dance floors and bedrooms alike. Diamonds & Death will be released September 27 on Krian Music Group/Chromosome Records.

The “Breaking Bones” MP3 was released a few weeks ago and now the band has revealed the stylishly colorful and slightly risqué new video for the track. With a skittering beat, keyboards stabs and a transfixing vocal melody, “Breaking Bones” immediately submerges you into the album and explodes into a guitar-fueled chorus.

Title track “Diamonds & Death” transforms from a minimal synth track into a dance floor behemoth. “I Found a Reason” is a pulsating summer anthem with a soaring refrain built on a foundation of rubbery bass, swooning synth and housey piano chords. Diamonds & Death is an unpredictable journey full of breathtaking epic song-scapes.

The two main creative engines behind VHS OR BETA’s decade-long career, Craig Pfunder and Mark Palgy, relocated to Brooklyn from Louisville over the last two years. Be sure to catch them live on a national tour with Ladytron if you’re able!

Newest Love: The Amplifetes

The Amplifetes are a brand new 4-piece band from Sweden. Being accomplished songwriters and producers on their own, the members have worked with names such as Kelis, Madonna, Grandmaster Flash and Peter Bjorn and John. While having occasionally crossed paths during the course of their careers, they have existed as a unit for about a year. The band think of themselves as a dreamteam collaboration of their influences – listing 60s Psychadelia, The Electric Light Orchestra, The Ramones, Elvis Costello, David Bowie and Chicago Trax Records House releases.

The highly addictive result can be heard in The Amplifetes debut single “It´s My Life“, a spitting image of urban life and a happy three-part marriage between garage pop, electro and punk. It was featured recently in a promo campaign for Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli, starring a lightly dressed Milla Jovovich, creating quite a stir over Europe.
Watch the video for their second single, “Whizz Kid”  HERE and fall in love like I have!

Coming Soon: The Atomica Project

imagesap1

Wade Alin and Lauren Cheatham formed The Atomica Project back in 2004, and released their debut Metropolitan in 2005. Their down-tempo beats and never before heard version of electronic music caught them some attention. Actually, it was considered to be one of the best independent albums of the year.

Last May, almost 3 years later, they returned with their follow-up, Grayscale. But, NOW they are going on a tour along the East Coast to support their newest album, First in a Series of Dramatic Events. The duo has added two additions to their lineup: keyboardist/turntablist Dean Dunakin and drummer Corey McCafferty.

You can go check ’em out next month at Your Inner Vagabond. They’ll be there on March 7th, at 7:00 pm. If you’re into Bjork and/or Portishead, you might enjoy The AP. But, if you aren’t sure, you can take a listen before-hand either on MySpace or Last.fm.

The Atomica Project Schedule:

02/26/09 Chicago, IL – Subterranean
02/27/09 Cleveland, OH – Wilburt’s Food & Music
02/28/09 New York, NY – Arlene’s Grocery
03/01/09 Buffalo, NY – Broadway Joe’s
03/02/09 Brooklyn, NY – TBA
03/03/09 Danbury, CT – Cousin Larry’s
03/04/09 Baltimore, MD – Metro Gallery
03/06/09 Boston, MA – PA’s Lounge
03/07/09 Pittsburgh, PA – Your Inner Vagabond

Impolite Not to Like!

51uhbsb2iql__sl500_aa240_

So Paste Magazine AND elbo.ws calls them “infectious”, and I think I’ve been infected. Plushgun, from New York, are awesome. Indie synth with a dancing beat, you know…some new wave, and it’s a party!

“Just Impolite” seems to be the song everyone knows and talks about. But, the others stuck out to me more. Like “Dancing in a Minefield” and “Union Pool” are just like, “put me in the scene, and plug in this song for my cameo on Gossip Girl,” or something like that.

pinspanzers

In February, Tommy Boy Entertainment will be putting out Plushgun’s Pins and Panzers album. It’s the band’s first full length album. Girlie Action describes it like this: “Plushgun’s Pins and Panzers bounces in to the room, passes out the glowsticks, hands you a beer and tells your ass to dance.” Whoa, really? That there is enough for me. I’m sold! You? Not just yet? Well, click here to go check out the new video for “Just Impolite”.

Then, after that…when you are sold…you can head over to Girlie Action Media to read more and check out their tour dates and such!
