Eric Sharp & Friends EP

Click to listen to the four-track EP

With two lead singles already under his belt it’s now time for Eric Sharp to round things out in one symphonic release.

Over the past four years, Sharp has only released individual singles, so the Eric Sharp & Friends EP is a momentous achievement in his career.

Featuring hit tracks “Too Much” and “Take This Time”, you now also get to enjoy two more tunes, “Call in the Night” and “Some Place I Can Call My Own”. Three of the tracks feature his good mate Zhao, with “Too Much” featuring Brooklyn lads French Horn Rebellion.

Eric Sharp has come a long way since his successful DJ spinning days in the underground house and techno scene, but they certainly shaped his productions for a more focused sound today.

“For the ‘Eric Sharp & Friends EP’ I left that creative constraint behind and just focused on making music as an ends in and of itself. Those who follow my original work will know that collaboration is a big part of my process. I find that there is a nearly magical energy exchange in co-creating music with other artists whom I share a wavelength with,” Sharp said.

The four-track body of work shows a softer moodier side to Sharp’s personality both as a producer and a writer, with a creative flow geared towards the philosophy of surrealist painters like Dali, Magritte and Miro.

“Surrealism involves allowing one’s unconscious to manifest itself in one’s work, maintaining an openness to explore whatever flows through oneself. Because of this I often don’t know what a song is going to be about until halfway through writing it,” he said.

The EP was developed both in his home studio and remotely, with writing sessions at Drew Kramer (Wild & Free) and Zhao’s studios, where the focus was primarily around developing ideas.

“It’s hard for me to take in my productions with a fresh ear, but hopefully on first listen people will hear the tracks as warm, inviting, and hypnotic. My goal is to draw people in my world sonically to have their own experience, and for this purpose, an EP is a better avenue than a single would have been,” he said.

When you next see Eric Sharp live, listen closely as you will hear snippets of these four singles filter through his set.

“Ironically, now that I have the final masters I find myself sneaking these songs into my DJ sets quite regularly even though they are pretty different from most of what I mix,” he said.

Eric Sharp & Friends EP is available everywhere now including Spotify & Apple Music, with thanks to Little Assembly.

Brand New: Equal + LEFTI – “The Way I Move”

equal-lefti

Check out this sparkly new disco collab track from DJ’s Equal + LEFTI (at the bottom of post).

About Equal and LEFTI:

Equal is a New York City DJ and music producer originally from Asheville, NC. He’s previously spent his nights wooing crowds all over the world, from New York City’s hottest parties for the downtown-club kids and fashion elite, to large scale events and festivals such as Bonnaroo. As a lifetime drummer from a musically inclined family, his transition to production from solely DJ’ing was a natural one. He first garnered attention as a producer with the release of his single, “Lost in the Evening (ft. Gary Jules),” and his recent hit “Shakedown” has garnered worldwide DJ support alongside placement in outlets such as Vogue UK and a collaborative ad-campaign from Ciroc for Zoolander 2. Equal will continue to release exciting collaborations featuring indie music’s elite as the year continues.

LEFTI is a Brooklyn based Producer / DJ / Musician and Songwriter by way of Florida. Mainly known for his thrilling remixes for artists such as Anoraak, Gallant, CID, Big Data, ASTR, French Horn Rebellion and Solid Disco, LEFTI has been titled “a disco-house hero” by Dancing Astronaut and has “richly layered productions that tread the line between house, funk and indie dance” by Billboard. With only a handful of original material released (Big Beat, Atlas Chair and Mix Mash) LEFTI has already been supported by top tier DJ’s (Don Diablo, Laid Back Luke, Martin Solveig..) as well as placement in digital marketing synchronization through the likes of Hulu and Vanity Fair. LEFTI is currently set to release a string of singles in the months ahead.

Of the song:

“Collaborating on this song was a fun lil’ journey. Initially we were hanging out working on an edit which turned into a fun sample based disco track that ignited the idea to reach out to Adeline as a feature. Writing together was a blast and once we got her vocals in a great place, we realized we needed to change the instrument bed into something with a little more bite.” — Equal + LEFTI

Check ‘Em Out: Violet Sands

violetsands

Brooklyn-based indie electronic trio Violet Sands and have announced their debut EP Strange Attractor set for release on May 6th via Ensemble Records. Comprised of David Perlick-Molinari (French Horn Rebellion), Deidre Muro (Savoir Adore, Deidre & The Dark), and Derek Muro (Love Like Deloreans), the band shares new single “Coming Back” today. Rolling beats swirl with atmospheric guitar-scapes to accompany Deidre Muro’s alluring vocals. She comments:

The song is a journey of reconnecting with inner truth, to acknowledge that you have been negligent of some part of yourself, and that you’re open to returning to the child-like state of the whole.

Strange Attractor crafts a shimmering, expansive, and experimental hybrid that is as playfully lush as it is masterfully produced. Recorded and mixed at the band’s YouTooCanWoo Studios in Williamsburg Brooklyn (where Perlick-Molinari also produced and mixed MGMT’s Time To Pretend EP among many others) the trio blends myriad influences including 90’s R&B, shoegaze, glitch pop and future bass with sci-fi infused cinematic soundscapes and trip-hop inspired dreamstates.

Violet Sands formed around a common interest in creating soundtracks for self-discovery and rites of passage, invigorated by a desire to evoke the beauty and struggles of transitioning from one phase of life to another. They shared breakout tracks “No Matter What” and “Lift Me Up” in January 2016 featuring Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue, aka Eric “Doc” Mendelsohn of Ghost Beach.  The band quickly garnered critical acclaim and developed a strong Soundcloud presence + saw “No Matter What” featured on the Spotify Party Campaign.

With a big year shaping up in 2016, stay tuned for more from Violet Sands.

Late nights in the big city always bring out the swingers. Hipsters in zoot suits in dark alley-ways; beat-boxers playing New Jack Swing on street corners; and French Horn Rebellion’s Next Jack Swing dance floor full of Band Geeks Gone Wild. In “Swing Into It” let Nini Fabi who, before forming HAERTS sang with French Horn Rebellion, lure you into a swinging night: dark, buzzing with energy and just a little bit of intrigue. French Horn Rebellion’s new Swing Into It EP will come out on 3/25 and you can hear the title track featuring New York’s HAERTS now.

The duo has traveled 5 continents with French horn slung over their back, doing shows with MGMT, Yelle, Cut Copy, and others along the way. Also, they’ve pioneered a new genre called ‘Next Jack Swing,’ like New Jack, but with heavy beats and funkier bass lines. New Shizz From French Horn Rebellion

French Horn Rebellion has released their latest EP, The Fire. The EP features alternate versions of the title track “The Fire”, which is a collaboration with Savoir Adore. The two bands, related by marriage for the last few years, have finally collaborated to keep you warm all season long. Make like David of FHR and Deidre of Savoir Adore and cuddle up under the disco ball, dancing the night away.  Winter is here. As the snow falls and icicles form we need to keep a fire in our hearts. We pack into cozy bars to get warm and dance by the firelight to remember we’re alive. In “The Fire”, Savoir Adore’s forest fantasy pop blends with French Horn Rebellion’s hot dancefloor beats.

Listen: French Horn Rebellion & Savoir Adore – The Fire (Rubber Ross Remix)

Robert from FHR said the following about the “Beaches & Friends” video:

“As we were watching HBO’s Girls on our couches, hearing our song ‘Beaches and Friends’ from 2009, we suddenly came to think about that long lost music video we did…. And so we went searching for it. This never came out because we made a decision to release a video for ‘The Twelves Remix’ of the song instead, so this one was put on the shelf. We hope you enjoy watching our younger 2009 versions, as much as we are (and laughing a lot at David’s conquistador ‘stache)!”

French Horn Rebellion Live Shows:

Fri 2/21 – Denver, CO @ Bar Standard
Sat 3/1 – Medellín, Columbia @ Capital

“Next big thing…Electro” New York Times

French Horn Rebellion (Robert and David Perlick-Molinari) kick off 2011 by announcing the US self-release of their debut album The
Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion
on April 19th digitally and May 24th physically (Once Upon A Time Records) and play 27 North American live shows supporting French electro pop outfit Yelle starting 17th April. MySpace Music exclusively premieres the band’s debut early, go here to listen to it.

Written, produced and mixed by Robert and David, ‘The Infinite Music…’ is a debut album that warps the fabric of dance, electro, rock and funk and may just turn out to be a contender for this year’s most ambitious, multi-faceted and engaging debut album. Crucially, the album also follows an intergalactic narrative that tracks the physical and emotional journey of an unknown French Horn player. “There is a story running through the album, it’s about the Universe. We’re pretty clear on what the story is, but what you take away from it may be something entirely different,” says David.

These two unassuming brothers, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have already toured and played with the likes of Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, The Drums and Cut Copy. The band have also remixed the likes of MEN, Two Door Cinema Club, OMD, Young Empires and Alex Winston.
