NONONO Confirmed For SXSW

unnamed (5)
Swedish indie pop trio NONONO, aka striking lead singer/songwriter Stina Wappling and the production duo Astma & Rocwell, will return to the USA in April for a their first full tour of the states in support of twenty one pilots. A full list of tour dates is below. They are also confirmed for SXSW in March. NONONO are currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album, which is due out later this year. For the time being, fans can enjoy the four song Pumpin Blood EP, of which the title track you’ve surely heard before, even if you haven’t realized it. “Pumpin Blood” is climbing the Top 40 radio charts here in the US, as its on over 70 stations, including SiriusXM Hits1, WRVW Nashville, KBKS Seattle, and more. The song has also been used  in commercials for Samsung, Sparkling Ice and Late Night with Seth Meyer, and featured on shows like Dancing With The Stars, American Idol, Revenge, Cougar Town and Vampire Diaries among others.

NONONO has two tracks on the soundtrack to Universal Pictures’ upcoming movie Endless Love, a romantic drama starring Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) and Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) and directed by Shana Feste (Country Strong). The film hits theatres February 14th 2014. “Pumpin Blood” and The Jane Doze Remix of “Pumpin Blood” are both featured on an impressive indie soundtrack, which also features Tegan and Sara, The Bird and The Bee featuring Matt Berninger, Guards, Echosmith, and Tanlines.

NONONO played their first official US shows just this past fall, when they took New York City’s CMJ Music Marathon by storm, being championed by everyone from Billboard, who named them one of the “Best of CMJ 2013”, to Grantland, to TIME and even CMJ themselves, who highlighted the band in their “5 International Artists to Watch” feature. Fashion media has been quick to jump all over Stina’s natural beauty and the potential of NONONO. Vogue,ELLEGlamour and Into The Gloss all profiled Stina, and Refinery 29, Nylon and Harper’s Bazaar picked NONONO as an Artist To Watch in 2014. Stina is an unlikely, unassuming rock star in the making. She went to school in Brighton to become a psychologist, and then proceeded to work as a nurse in a mental institution. She’s been writing songs all her life, usually for other people though. It wasn’t until recently, when the 24 year old got linked up with Astma & Rocwell, that Stina stepped into the spotlight. Watch Stina and NONONO perform acoustic versions of “Pumpin Blood,” “Like The Wind,” and “Fire Without A Flame” for All Saints and also stopped by Perez Hilton for a session as well.

Listen: Lune – “Tonight”

unnamed (3)

Lune (translated as ‘moon’ in French) is a new music project fronted by Sweden’s Linnèa Martinsson, and today she has unveiled the details for her debut album, Music & Sports, which will see a US release on March 10th through Refune Records.

Listen: Lune – “Tonight”

The core of Lune’s music is rooted in the dance and performance world she started in at an early age, writing simple songs with two chords, and simple, direct lyrics. Her sound ripened when creating music with Adrian Lux and Carl-Michael Herlöfsson, which resulted in movie-like pop melodies and lyrics about art, fighting, sport, love and sex. She has a haunting reinterpretation of Swedish House Mafia’s hit song “Leave The World Behind” (see the video below), that the group heard and hand-picked for the soundtrack to their upcoming documentary of the same name, which premieres at SXSW 2014.

Music & Sports is Lune’s debut album, recorded during a few intense autumn months in a vicarage on the Swedish isle of Gotland. Mixed by Carl-Michael Herlöfsson, and the legendary Mike Marsh, who has worked with everyone from Massive Attack to Depeche Mode, mastered the album. Lune has also collaborated with musicians and producers Alexis Weak and Adrian Lux, for which she delivered vocals on “Teenage Crime” and co-wrote single “Fire.”

Earlier this week, Rolling Stone premiered the song “You,” proclaiming it “exists at the intersection between modern EDM and classic Eighties synth-pop.” Similarly, the album’s enthralling first single “Sleepwalking,'” which is featured on the television commercial for Grand Theft Auto V, recently debuted at #1 on the Alt Specialty Radio Chart and was also added to Sirius XM’s Alt Nation playlist. The song was nominated for Spike TV’s Video Game (VGX) Awards for “Best Song In A Game,” and is the most popular on the GTAV soundtrack , with over 30K sold.

Led by the genre-jumping singer/multi-instrumentalist Kamtin Mohager, the band will be performing at SXSW and Governor’s Ball, with additional tour dates coming soon.

Daydream Forever was produced by Isom Innis (Foster The People) with additional production and mixing from Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix). The new album is the anticipated follow-up to The Chain Gang of 1974’s widely acclaimed 2011 debut Wayward Fire, which Esquire declared “one of the summer’s most surprisingly fantastic new records,” earning similar praise from the likes of SPINMTVFADERNYLONRCRD LBL and more. They have shared the stage with the likes of Foster the People, Big Audio Dynamite, Tapes N Tapes, and The Naked and Famous, as well as a lauded performance at 2011’s Lollapalooza, which Yahoo proclaimed “a fabulous onstage display.”

Check ‘Em Out: Incan Abraham

IA 2

Friends since kindergarten, the members of Incan Abraham (Giuliano Pizzulo, Teddy Cafaro, Spencer Mandel) channel their fingerpainted past in their debut LP, fusing Lost Boys tribal energy with guitar, synth, and harmony vocal soundscapes that arc and circle like bikes in desert washes. After spending college marooned on opposite coasts, the friends reunited on a whim in a secluded house in upstate New York for a weekend that turned into a month spent writing music and contemplating their shared histories of childhood escapism and pop nostalgia.

Returning to their native Los Angeles, they seasoned their sound in the arid air and eclectic east side music scene, until a fateful encounter with their producer-to-be and sonic sherpa Lewis Pesacov (Best Coast, FIDLAR, Fool’s Gold).  The resulting album Tolerance will be released on April 8th on White Iris Records.

The foursome is set to tour starting February 9th in San Francisco and share their upcoming album in a live setting and will play multiple times at Austin’s SXSW.

New Music: Milagres – “Jeweled Cave”

unnamed

Following their critically acclaimed 2011 debut LP, Glowing Mouth, Brooklyn indie rock quartet Milagres have just announced the release of their sophomore full-length album,Violent Light, on February 25th via Kill Rock Stars in the US (2/24 via Memphis Industries in the UK). Channeling influences as diverse as Al Green, Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush, Violent Light finds the band exploring the connection between ancient humanity & the advanced science of the present day.

Milagres fill Violent Light with richness and delicacy. Combining “a David Bowie-like theatricality with a sprawling prog groove.” (SPIN), The Letterbomb” is a fuzzy, funked-up track that launches into a flurry of driving guitars, experiments using vocals as percussion. Psych-pop album cut “Jeweled Cave” immediately bursts open with bouncing synths and a driving bassline setting the stage for Kyle Wilson’s irresistible vocals.

Check ‘Em Out: Kwes

KWES_5809_Stephanie_Sian_Smith_2013

Warp Records are pleased to announce the release of Kwes’ debut album ilp following last year’s critically acclaimed EP meantime.

The new track “36” off the album is inspired by the enduring love Kwes witnessed between his grandparents. His music displays an unabashed honesty that highlights his ability to craft heart-on-the-sleeve songs about relationships. The foundation for which is his experimental take on pop which he refers to as Freepop, forged by his dual love of “mad” sounds and personal songwriting. But for Kwes, it is more of a creative process than a sound, marked by his desire to keep learning and trying out new things.

Last year, he made his first appearance at SXSW, and was heralded by New York Magazine’s Nitsuh Abebe as one of the festival’s standout discoveries. Other live performances were as part of Bobby Womack’s “super group” which also included another Kwes collaborator, Damon Albarn. The group made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which can be viewed HERE.

“open-hearted… mixes a homemade aesthetic with swirling electronics” – Pitchfork

“the right combination of ego and insecurity to lure listeners into his lush, sentimental world”– Village Voice

“velveteen blend of handcrafted, ultra-earnest electronica” – SPIN

Listen: !!! – “One Girl/One Boy”

!!!

!!! are set to release their latest album THR!!!ER on April 30, and are now sharing their single “One Girl/One Boy.” A follow up the sample-based club-floor classic tribute “Slyd”, the latest track is pure !!! gold. While working on the album in Austin with Jim Eno of Spoon, the band knew that they wanted a diva level singer for the song and Jim said he knew someone perfect, Sonia Moore, who had previously toured with MC Hammer for two and half years as a singer and dancer.

“We knew she had sang with MC Hammer and Rafael [Cohen, bassist] kept singing the “hey hey” part from “Too Legit To Quit” and we were wondering if that was who was really coming by. That was basically the first thing we asked her and she said, “Hey, Hey. Yeah, that’s me”.

Sonia joined them onstage in Austin during SXSW for their sweat-soaked dance party sets. Following the album’s release they’ll be performing in Europe, which includes a stop at ATP, before heading back to the US for a full tour which kicks off on May 16th.
