Newest Love: SWF

swf1

SWF is the dream of, and moniker for, the artist, musician, and self-described mystic, Stevie Weinstein-Foner. Stevie’s messages of love and longing roll from his debut album, Let It Be Told, like mantras blasted from the radio of a brightly re-painted VW van, cruising down a metaphysical highway of endless summer with the windows down. Let It Be Told (out October 8 via Mecca Lecca) was recorded in Memphis, and the album’s soulful proclamations are backed by a chorus of fuzzy guitars, vocal harmonies, and very singable hooks. Time Out New York describes SWF’s music as “warm, mellow, scruffy rock & roll.” A few days ago marked the release of his first music video for “Black & Golden”, which you can watch below. The video was shot over the course of an entire year, beginning with the Chinese New Year in 2012 and wrapping on New Year’s Day in 2013.

After spending the summer of 2008 in the Grand Canyon rafting down the Colorado River, Stevie moved to Brooklyn, where he began to study yoga and write the songs which would become the material for Let It Be Told. Leaving Brooklyn to live and work on farms in Central America for the winter, he ended his travels in Memphis in May 2011, recording the first half of his debut album. Upon returning to Brooklyn, Stevie began performing as SWF, gathering friends from the yoga and music communities to act as band members.

After a year of determination, detox, and deep self-study, Stevie returned to Memphis in January 2013 to record the rest of the album. On “Warrior”, he sings, “I let my darkness shine, I let the darkness out, I’ve taken the warrior’s vow”, illuminating his path of sincerity and soul discovery. The songs are odes to a deeper connection to our soul and the challenges and beauty of hoping to attain enlightenment in the 21st century.

Revealed in both the spirit of light and darkness, Let It Be Told is a work of truth, love, and a heart that beats for rock & roll.

Check ‘Em Out: Raccoon Fighter

RacoonFighter

Brooklyn trio Raccoon Fighter has announced the release of their debut LP, ZIL, out October 1st via Papercup Music. The band, comprised of three guys from Southern New Jersey, has spent the past two years quietly infiltrating Brooklyn’s music scene with their not-so-quiet brand of bluesy rock ‘n’ roll. For a taste of their infectious sound and a sneak peek at ZIL, you can listen to track “Santa Tereza” below.

Packing a mean punch with the gritty, raw vocal stylings of lead singer Sean Gavigan, the hypnotic basslines of Gabe Wilhelm, and a steady, driving foundation set by Zac Ciancaglini, Raccoon Fighter’s sound is as much razor-sharp as it is in-your-face . All hailing from the same small Jersey town, it wasn’t until close friends Sean and Zac, who had played together in previous bands, met Gabe (who contributed bass parts to Ryan Adams’ Easy Tiger, among other albums) through a mutual friend that everything fell into place. While the three tend to be soft-spoken off stage, their raucous live shows burst with passion and raw energy.

Gentlemen Hall recently released their single “Sail Into The Sun”, which has garnered radio airplay nationwide, along with huge synchs in Target and Samsung commercials. RAC also gave it the remix treatment, which is available as a free download below.

Highly Anticipated: New Coldplay Track For The Hunger Games: Catching Fire!

Capitol-Portraits-The-Hunger-Games-Catching-Fire

Multiplatinum recording artist Coldplay will release the first track from the official soundtrack album for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, it was announced today by Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) and Republic Records, marking the first time Coldplay has ever recorded an original song for a motion picture. The song, titled “Atlas,” is scheduled to be available via iTunes and all digital retailers on August 26, 2013.  Republic Records is again teaming up with Lionsgate to release the soundtrack in advance of Lionsgate distributing the film on screens worldwide on November 22, 2013.

“I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film,” said filmmaker Francis Lawrence. “Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can’t wait to share this music with audiences around the world.”

“We are so honored that Coldplay, one of the iconic rock bands of our generation, will perform the first song out on the new soundtrack,” said Tracy McKnight, Lionsgate’s Head of Film Music. “Knowing that Chris Martin is a fan of the books makes this even more meaningful.  The Coldplay single underscores the stature of recording artists we’ve assembled for this powerful soundtrack.”

Monte Lipman, Chairman & CEO of Republic Records, stated, “The creative alliance between Coldplay and The Hunger Games franchise will create a level of excitement and anticipation of epic proportions.”

Coldplay is one of the top recording artists of recent times, selling over 60 million records worldwide and winning seven Grammy Awards and five MTV Video Awards, among other honors.  They are signed to Parlophone, the legendary label known for The Beatles, Radiohead, Queen, David Guetta and more.

The first installment of The Hunger Games was the 13th highest-grossing North American release of all time on its way to grossing nearly $700 million at the worldwide box office.

This is the first in a series of highly anticipated announcements of the new artists to be revealed in the coming weeks.

The first Hunger Games partnership between Republic Records and Lionsgate yielded the Grammy Award-winning, chart-dominating The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 And Beyond executive produced by T Bone Burnett.

The album hit #1 on the Billboard Top 200 on its release with sales over 175,000, making it the first soundtrack to top the chart since November 2009.  It was the best-selling soundtrack of 2012, the fastest selling soundtrack ever at iTunes, and was certified gold by the RIAA shortly after its release. The album earned a Golden Globe Award nomination and three Grammy Award nominations, and its first single, Taylor Swift’s “Safe & Sound” featuring The Civil Wars, won the 2013 Grammy Award for “Best Song Written for Visual Media”.

ABOUT THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson).  Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts.  Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.  The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has sold over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.

Brand New: The Chain Gang of 1974 – “Miko”

1974

The dog days of summer call for a brand new song from The Chain Gang of 1974. The sun soaked vibes of “Miko,” which premiered with Neon Gold yesterday, is the first new offering TCGO1974 has released since 2011 and will be on their upcoming sophomore album.

“‘Miko,’ the barnstorming first taste of [the] next record opens innocently enough, like a waxing moonbeam of meditative pop, unfolding with relaxed candor…But then things go haywire as it slides into hyperdrive, taking off on the pestilent wings of Isom Innis’ studio magic as the Foster The People jack-of-all-tradesman turns in one of his finest production efforts yet. Buckle up and take flight.” says Neon Gold.

“Miko” is the first new track from the The Chain Gang of 1974’s sophomore LP due out in 2014 – the follow-up to the band’s 2011 debut Wayward Fire. The Chain Gang of 1974 is the moniker of genre-jumping singer/multi-instrumentalist, Kamtin Mohager. Since moving from his hometown of Denver to Los Angeles three years ago, in the midst of recording Wayward Fire, Kamtin has now become one with the elements of Southern California. His upcoming album is indicative of his free spirited lifestyle. The upcoming album was produced by Isom Innis (Foster The People) with additional help from Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix and Silversun Pickups, among many more).

Listen: Thomas Azier – “Ghostcity”

ghostcity

Thomas Azier has opened up the gateway to “Ghostcity”. The Berlin-based electro-pop auteur released his new single “Ghostcity” yesterday through Casablanca Records, along with the re-release of his debut EP’s, Hylas 001 and Hylas 002. The two EP’s and “Ghostcity” are a precursor to his debut full-length, the third installment in the Hylas trilogy, which will see a release in early 2014. On “Ghostcity”, the multi-instrumentalist, producer, and artist fashions a monumental melodic hook between propulsive synths, beats, and a flurry of futuristic electronics actually recorded in an abandoned Soviet factory. Mirroring the location’s expansive and warm era of despair, it’s an amalgam of shuddering dance sheen and artful pop bliss. Get ready to get lost in the dark, shadowy alleys of “Ghostcity”.
