New Video: Hercules & Love Affair “Painted Eyes”

Upcoming new album, Blue Songs sees Hercules’ mastermind Andy Butler broaden his musical palette  – “There’s definitely jacking house and there’s definitely even more full-blown disco, but there’s also more experimental, softer music” he explains.

Check ‘Em Out: White Wives (Pittsburgh Natives!)

In anticipation of their forthcoming debut LP Happeners, due June 28 on Adeline Records, White Wives have premiered “Indian Summer, Indian Summer” on their website. Their tour kicks off tomorrow with their record release party here in their hometown of Pittsburgh!

This quartet brings together Western Pennsylvanian natives Anti-Flag’s Chris “#2” Barker and Chris Head, Roger Harvey of Dandelion Snow and Tyler Kweder of American Armada. While they share a hometown, they have as many creative and ideological similarities as they do differences. “I think our varying influences are what helps create the sound and aesthetic of White Wives,” offers “2”. “I grew up listening to a lot of music from the mid nineties: Nirvana, Pixies.” Harvey, on the other hand, cites traditional literary songwriters: “Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt, Gram Parsons. Of course Dylan and Woody Guthrie.” The diversity of inspiration speaks volumes about their creative origins, and serves as a reminder to set pre-conceived notions aside and allow the music to be the voice. The collection of 11 tracks range from high-gain electric rock n’ roll, to punk/indie rock, to carefully orchestrated acoustic songs.

White Wives is not, nor was ever intended as a side project. “I think that anyone who goes into listening to our record believing that it is an Anti-Flag ‘side project’ is going to be surprised and to be honest, perhaps a bit shocked,” affirms #2. The band will tour in support of the release, beginning in June, alongside quintet Touche Amore and Balance & Composure. They promise to bring a raucous live show – the stage is left in disarray after every set.

Click image to stream the new single "East Harlem"

Beirut announces its first album in four years with The Rip Tide, set for release on August 30th.

The Rip Tide will be released internationally and independently on Pompeii Records (via Revolver in the US), a label started, and wholly owned by Beirut’s Zach Condon with no large label affiliation whatsoever, so as to keep total creative control.

The Rip Tide track list:

1. A Candle’s Fire

2. Santa Fe

3. East Harlem

4. Goshen

5. Payne’s Bay

New Album (today): Digitalism – I Love You, Dude

Click to stream the new album at AOL Spinner

I Love You, Dude, the sophomore album from Digitalism is out today in the US digitally and will be released physically on July 5th.  The album features 10 tracks, each of which has their own vibrant identity. This is the sound of a band welding dancefloor pugilism onto crafted sonic sculpture. They set the bar high for themselves, and deliver with an amazing album featuring tracks like  “Forrest Gump,” co-written with Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas, “Circles,” with its Who-ish keyboard and apparently existential lyrics, and standout pop single “2 Hearts.”

Holy Freaking Crap!: She Wants Revenge

Earlier today I heard some old She Wants Revenge on the radio and thought to myself, “What happened to them? I haven’t heard of anything new coming from them…”

WELL, guess what? They came out with a brand new album last month, Valleyheart! Where have I been? Anyways, I am so excited to see they JUST came out with new stuff — and didn’t just disappear (it’s been since 2007 since we’ve gotten a new release from them).

Check out the video for “Must Be The One” — I LOVE both the video and the song! Must check out the rest of the album when I get a chance!

New Single: YACHT “Utopia”

YACHT have already released their apocalyptic-themed synth-pop anthem “Dystopia (The Earth is on Fire) and now that
the rapture hasn’t actually destroyed the earth the duo are ready to share its companion track “Utopia.”  Click HERE to give it a listen. Both songs will appear on YACHT’s forthcoming new album and second for DFA Records, Shangri-La (out June 21st).

“Utopia” is both thematically and sonically different from “Dystopia.”  The track is a frantic piece of arty disco funk.  YACHT’s Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans fuse their vocals to create appropriately celestial-sounding harmonies.  Multiple layers of keys, guitars, drums, and more pound away in varying rhythms while the two sing lines like “there’s nothing in the future / it’s up to us to make utopia.”

YACHT will be joining bands like Guided by Voices, Wavves, Atlas Sound, and more as part of Brooklyn’s Northside Festival.  YACHT’s show will be at Music Hall of Williamsburg with Midnight Magic, The Miracles Club, and DFA DJ’s on Sunday,  June 19th.

Highly Anticipated: New Album From The Rapture

The Rapture have announced the release details for their long awaited third album In The Grace Of Your Love on September 6th through DFA Records.

The release of In The Grace Of Your Love marks the dawn of a new chapter in the bands history and a welcome return to DFA Records, having re-signed with the label that released some of their most acclaimed early singles, and whose founders James Murphy & Tim Goldsworthy produced their debut album Echoes. This an exciting release for the DFA familiy who will also be celebrating that same month the iconic label’s 10th Anniversary.

Together with French producer Philippe Zdar (Phoenix, Beastie Boys, Chromeo) they have crafted and shaped a bold & euphoric album that sounds definitively & distinctly like The Rapture and no one else. Through the course of its eleven tracks, you can immerse yourself as waves of lyrical optimism & introspection crash between angular guitars & pulsing synthesizers, pounding drums & into sweet rhythmical lullabies. This is the sound of The Rapture re-engaged and revitalized with a voice as clear as they ever had.

The full tracklisting is as follows:

In The Grace Of Your Love

1) Sail Away
2) Miss You
3) Blue Bird
4) Come Back to Me
5) In the Grace of Your Love
6) Never Gonna Die Again
7) Roller Coaster
8) Children
9) Can You Find a Way?
10) How Deep Is Your Love?
11) It Takes Time to Be a Man

The Rapture are Gabriel Andruzzi, Luke Jenner & Vito Roccoforte

Stay tuned for US tour dates!

New Video: Tahiti 80 “Easy”

“So why don’t you erase my name, cuz I will never feel the same.”

Check out this happy little ditty from Tahiti 80.

Tahiti 80 specialize in a danceable mix of carefree melodies and intoxicating grooves.  The band’s debut album, Puzzle, was released by Minty Fresh in the U.S. in 1999, and was critically acclaimed as a refreshingly upbeat nod to late 60s West Coast pop (particularly the Beach Boys). The album also placed Tahiti 80 squarely in the center of the  “French Pop Invasion” that was hitting the U.S., along with fellow French bands Phoenix and Air (most notably).  The band has been relentlessly productive ever since, having released an astounding ten EP’s and The Past, The Present & The Possible marking their sixth full-length album (which is available now).
