Holy Ghost! Debut EP

The duo Holy Ghost! is one of the most talked about remixers for the last few months. They’ve released a string of hit remixes for artists such as Cut Copy, Moby, MGMT and Phoenix.

Now they’re just about set to release their EP Static on the Wire (DFA Records). And you can catch a preview of the disco-pop track “Say My Name” here AND go have a listen to their latest remix of LCD Soundsystem’s “Drunk Girls” streaming on their website.

And for the first time ever you’ll be able to see them live, performing as a full live band (guitars, drum kit, keys, the works!) this spring and summer, including US dates opening for LCD.

Echo & The Bunnymen TOURING

British post-punk legends Echo & The Bunnymen are launching their (first!) US tour in support of their acclaimed new album, The Fountain. The shows are hot on the heels of the band’s recent tour celebrating their landmark album Ocean Rain that included orchestral performances at New York’s Radio City Music Hall and the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.Their highly anticipated appearance at the Coachella Festival will kick off the tour.

Frontman Ian McCulloch calls The Fountain “the best thing we’ve done since Ocean Rain.”  The press has been raving about the record with Alternative Press praising its “brisk, vibrant pop songs” and Filter calling it “ replete with shimmering, flaw-repellant pop, all glorious melodies and gorgeous atmospherics.”

R.I.P. Jay Reatard

Jay Reatard “I’m Watching You” live @ Criminal Records

On Wednesday, the world lost a great alt punk musician way before his time. Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr. (aka Jay Reatard) was found dead in his Memphis home at the young age of 29. Police are looking into his death as a homicide, though the exact reason for death hasn’t yet been determined. He’s been making music since ’98 but hadn’t really been noticed until his 2006 album release Blood Visions.

All of last year, I was always seeing his name in all the music blogs. He just played a show here in Pittsburgh in November at Brillobox. His 2009 release, Watch Me Fall, is a great album. It always sucks when someone is taken away before really being able to enjoy what their talents have made for themselves.

The video above is just from last month (December 3, 2009).
