New Album From The Cranberries!

The Cranberries are set to release Something Else, a new album featuring re-worked renditions of their major hits, as well as brand new material. The album is due out April 28 via BMG on digital and CD formats, and includes seminal Cranberries songs like “Linger,” “Zombie,” “Dreams,” and “Ode To My Family”… re-recorded in orchestral and acoustic arrangements.

Something Else celebrates the 25th anniversary of the band. Their first major U.S. hit “Linger” has been re-done acoustically, and just premiered on Rolling Stone! On the album concept and choice of “Linger” as the first single, The Cranberries’ singer-songwriter Dolores O’Riordan explains,

“‘Linger’ was the first song The Cranberries ever wrote together. I was 17, and the youngest member of the band was 15 at the time. We never imagined it’d be such a big hit, but soon us teenagers found ourselves on our first flight to the United States to shoot the video in Downtown LA. That video would introduce us to American households, in the good old days of MTV! The bittersweet love song still holds all that sentimentality for us personally, which is why we had to include it on this project. Universally, I think its message remains timeless and relevant, never going out of fashion, yet never quite in fashion. It’s amazing to have a song hold up 25 years later, and I hope this acoustic version allows our fans to hear a Cranberries classic in a new way.”

“Linger ” is available now for download and streaming. The full album is available for pre-order on digital and CD formats.

Over a period of two weeks last year in the University of Limerick, at the home of the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the band revisited old times; Dolores laid down vocals as small booths were created to record the instruments as if live. She was no longer a child, singing her mature songs from an inexperienced vantage point but a woman now, with the capacity to throw her life at the music, the benefit of hindsight. “I prefer them like this,” she says of the new recordings of old songs, “with a little bit more experience behind them, with a new lease of life. They sound fresh again.”

As the record began to take full shape, three new songs were added, to stop it from just being a rush of memories lost and found. The first was “The Glory”, which Dolores explains she wrote in The Irish Chamber Orchestra’s rehearsal rooms at the University of Limerick. She then brought out two songs she had been keeping in her personal stash, until she could place them in the right home: “Rupture” (“about depression, about being in that black hole and finding it hard to get out of it”) and the forthcoming single “Why?” (“written just after my father passed, the hardest time”).

It’s testament to Dolores and Noel’s song-writing prowess that the new additions to the Cranberries cannon sit seamlessly next to the old. When they began finalizing details for the record, they decided on Something Else, a nod to the first record’s Everybody Else…, a title neither riven with the promise of future endeavors or locked into the past.

Check ‘Em Out: Bloom Twins

bloomtwins

Check out the video below for “Set Us Free” from Bloom Twins. The exciting plot, which takes the viewer through a series of breathtaking extreme sports scenarios, features Go-Pro headcam footage from skiing, bungee jumping, scuba-diving and zip-wiring to name a few, and was shot in several countries around the world including the USA, UK, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Poland, the Maldives and of course, Ukraine.

20-year-old identical twins, Sonia and Anna Kuprienko co-wrote this track with talented Fiona Bevan and Max McElligott, then handed it over to Greg Fitzgerald for some production magic. It was the first track they wrote after returning from Ukraine where they got stuck for half a year during the uprise. The track is not political at all, rather a call for freedom, but it was certainly influenced by everything that was happening in Ukraine and the fact that they couldn’t return to their new home – London.

On the making and narrative behind the video, Bloom Twins say;
We tend to forget about the simple pleasures in life that make us happy. The world is our oyster. It’s only needed to be prized open to be enjoyed, with the pearl as the prize. Life should be about love, peace, happiness and freedom, and a home for it all is our beautiful planet.
Their debut album, which has been recorded and produced by Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes, will be out in 2017.

“The twins have serious promise” – MTV

“Divinely dynamic yet dark sisterly harmonies” – The Guardian

Video: Hillary Hand & The Roseliers “Run Like a Rabbit”

Hillary Hand

Colorado based indie pop band Hillary Hand & The Roseliers announce the release of their new music video for “Run Like A Rabbit.” The video premiered exclusively on CREEM Magazine. This past year, MileHIMusic chose them as one of the “Standout CO Artists from SxSW 2014,” where they raved, “Hillary’s soaring vocals are reminiscent of Adele’s 21 album, with traces of Fiona Apple.”

Frontwoman Hillary Hand has been trained in classical piano since the age of 6, and performs as a solo artist as well as with her five piece band from Colorado Springs. She recorded her first EP Paper Doll, in 2012 where the single “Domino” was heard on MTV’s “Awkward.” Since her first EP, she has recorded a few standalone singles, including “Tameless Tongues” which was featured on ABC’s new hit drama “Black Box.” The band has performed at venues across the Colorado Springs and Denver area, including the UMS Denver Summit Music Festival. Currently, the band is recording and self-producing their next album, set to release in the beginning of 2015.

Pop Vulture raves, “With lyrics that suggest a maturity usually reserved for those far older than Hillary, and arrangements that captivate, you can expect nothing short of brilliance from this artist in the years to come.”

Flashback Cruise was created by Ryan Morales, a native New Yorker, audio engineer, and member of BMI. Ryan has been DJing since 1989. He was a resident DJ at New York’s notorious Limelight while still a teenager, and his production credits include remixes for major artists like Bon Jovi. He has played at some of the largest music festivals in the world including Ultra, and at some of the biggest clubs in New York and Miami. Ryan launched Flashback Cruise in response to the negative changes in the nightlife industry. “I wanted to go back to good old days, when you weren’t just a dollar bill to some club owner.”

New Original Track From The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers Kanye

Listen: The Chainsmokers (ft. Siren) – “Kanye”

If you’ve been a long time reader here at Musically Amusing, you know that I’ve been a HUGE fan of The Chainsmokers from the very beginning! While I LOVE their remixes, I’m pleased to bring you their second original track, “Kanye” featuring Siren (an LA based indie-pop duo).

Available on iTunes and through all digital outlets, the track follows up one of the year’s biggest songs and cultural phenomena, “#SELFIE”. However, it’s quite a departure from the cheeky, crossover club anthem that put Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall on the map.

Provocative in both its name and stirringly gorgeous sense of melody, “Kanye” fuses Siren’s divine delivery and uplifting lyrics with The Chainsmokers entrancing and enigmatic production. Moreover, there’s a very special and ultimately inspiring message at the heart of this anthem. The word “Kanye” insinuates that only you can define what makes you individually happy. What other people think doesn’t matter, and do not let anyone take that happiness away from you. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible and no judging allowed!

Pall elaborates, “We look at the word ‘Kanye’ as an adjective. The song is about what it means to be like Kanye. It’s about just owning it no matter what you’re doing. Whether you’re on top of the world partying in a penthouse or you’re driving an old car playing your favorite song, it’s about enjoying the moment you’re in and feeling like you’re the king. You embrace that confidence. We didn’t want to do something too left field after ‘#SELFIE’, but we wanted to show another side of ourselves. What Siren does is just beautiful, and we built the production around that. It gets the message across. Own your shit, be self-assured, and remain confident in everything you do.”

In addition, the boys have launched an Instagram and Facebook campaign with the hashtag #BeLike. They’ve included a fun quiz that you can take here!

After returning from a packed European tour where they hit stages at both Tomorrowland and Ultra, the guys are also gearing up to launch a live radio show on SiriusXM August 18. It’s called “Nice Hair with The Chainsmokers” and it will air on Electric Area. The show is unlike anything else on the air. The guys will speak candidly on the lifestyle of touring international EDM superstars, allowing listeners a vignette behind the curtain. Nothing will be held back, and their wild antics and unpredictable personalities will be on full display!

Things just keep heating up for The Chainsmokers, after MTV recently crowned the group an “Artist to Watch”. “#SELFIE” was officially certified platinum by the RIAA for digital sales in excess of 1,000,000. The song also soared to #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart within merely five weeks and reached the Top 5 on iTunes in over 43 countries. “#SELFIE” is the #6 video on YouTube’s “Top Music Videos of 2014”. Furthermore, it garnered a nomination for “Choice EDM Song” at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards and the guys have been receiving tremendous support for DJ Mag‘s “Top 100 DJs” [vote here!]

Newest Love: Cheerleader

2014Cheerleader_PR_230114

Listen: Cheerleader – “Perfect Vision”

MTV described the band’s sound as ““A charming mix of lo-fi guitar grunge, The Beach Boys’ good vibes, and Wavves-inspired nonchalance.”

Following their acclaimed demo EP and performances at South By Southwest, Cheerleader is proud to announce the release of “Perfect Vision.”

The first official single from the Philadelphia-based quintet represents a bold step forward for the band in more ways than one. “’Perfect Vision’” is a song we actually started working on two years ago,” explains singer/songwriter Joe Haller. “But we sort of gave up on it at the time because we didn’t think we were going to be able to get it to sound right.”

Fortunately, the song received a new lease on life when Cheerleader got the opportunity to record at the renowned East/West studios in Los Angeles this past February.  Haller and the rest of the band finally had their chance to give “Perfect Vision” the treatment they always felt it deserved.  “This song was written during a period when we were listening to a lot of Robyn and Icona Pop.  Obviously, it doesn’t sound like them, but, in our own way, we were trying to capture a similar feeling, when the night is young and you can’t wait to see where it takes you.”  For Cheerleader, the release “Perfect Vision” is both the culmination of a two-year journey and the start of an exciting new chapter for the band: one full of possibilities, finally within reach.

Flush with simmering sexuality and irresistible dance pulse, Brooklyn-based Hank & Cupcakes are the coalescence of rock without guitars and pop without synthesizers. Hailing from Tel Aviv, the duo consist of powerhouse vocalist/drummer Cupcakes and bassist/pedal board magician Hank. Named in reference to Charles “Hank” Bukowski and one of his real-life lovers “Cupcakes,” they have been honing their explosive live performances in front of US audiences since they arrived in 2008. Fully realized now, the show is a raucous bash, where the mesmerizing Cupcakes stands to bang her drum kit only breaking the beat to catalyze a dance party with the crowd.

Hank & Cupcakes recorded their debut album with Swedish producer Ludwig Boss at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin where landmark records from U2, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, R.E.M. & many more were made. First single “Sweet Potion,” which premiered today with MTV Hive, is the perfect balance of Hank’s cool progression on the bass and Cupcakes’ lyrical hooks and percussive assault. They are offering it as a free MP3 in advance of a brand new EP release October 22nd on BMG Rights Management.
