THE LAST BISON want to bring you to “Switzerland.” The Virginia “mountaintop chamber” ensemble is currently giving away its first single, “Switzerland,” as a free download now. The song also comes on their four-song debut EP for Republic Records, Inheritance, available through iTunes and all digital outlets.
Boasting a vivid and fascinating tale of travel on a snowy evening, the track functions as an appropriate introduction to the group’s unique amalgam of rustic folk and roots-y rock. They’ve also already drawn critical praise for this sound. Noise Trade commented that the band is “based far more in inspiration than imitation,” while Folk Hive claimed, “The Last Bison is a welcome respite from all that is manufactured.”
With seven members connected by family ties and lifelong friendships, there’s truly no group out there quite like The Last Bison. At the forefront is singer and songwriter Ben Hardesty. His father Dan and sister Annah comprise this collective as well as Andrew and Jay Benfante, Teresa Totheroh, and Amos Housworth. When they all get together, magic happens, yielding music that’s as immediate as it is inspirational.
Following up a successful jaunt supporting Langhorne Slim, The Last Bison is currently roaming across the United States on a headline tour. After almost a lifetime of playing together, they’re truly in sync on stage, making for an unforgettable experience.

Techno maverick, Vitalic, released his eagerly anticipated album, Rave Age, last week via [PIAS] America. The French producer’s third album takes the laser-guided disco for which he’s known to an altogether wilder but no less euphoric place. This is a savage and carefree statement from a dancefloor visionary who’s spent the last decade redefining electronic music in his own particular fashion and has decided, as only he can, to keep things simple. In celebration, he has released the Rave Age minimix for free download.
Mixed by legendary production wizard, Stephane Alf Briat, known for his work with Air and Phoenix, Rave Age is a ballsy, firecracker of an album that showcases not just a passion for big room, electro smashers and electronica, but a broad set of influences that stretch from punk and film soundtracks to disco and indie dance.
Vitalic grabbed the international spotlight in 2001 with his now classic debut, the Poney EP. The record’s instant and enduring appeal saw Pascal aligned with Daft Punk and Aphex Twin as a singular producer capable of shaping the future of electronic music and is arguably the first techno record of the last decade. He has released many essential records since then including the blistering euphoria of “La Rock 01” and “You Prefer Cocaine”. Vitalic is also known for his searing live show.

Flush with simmering sexuality and irresistible dance pulse, Brooklyn-based Hank & Cupcakes are the coalescence of rock without guitars and pop without synthesizers. Hailing from Tel Aviv, the duo consist of powerhouse vocalist/drummer Cupcakes and bassist/pedal board magician Hank. Named in reference to Charles “Hank” Bukowski and one of his real-life lovers “Cupcakes,” they have been honing their explosive live performances in front of US audiences since they arrived in 2008. Fully realized now, the show is a raucous bash, where the mesmerizing Cupcakes stands to bang her drum kit only breaking the beat to catalyze a dance party with the crowd.
Hank & Cupcakes recorded their debut album with Swedish producer Ludwig Boss at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin where landmark records from U2, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, R.E.M. & many more were made. First single “Sweet Potion,” which premiered today with MTV Hive, is the perfect balance of Hank’s cool progression on the bass and Cupcakes’ lyrical hooks and percussive assault. They are offering it as a free MP3 in advance of a brand new EP release October 22nd on BMG Rights Management.
Don’t miss the duo when they take their magnetic live show on the road this month in anticipation of a 2013 album release that will further showcase their postmodern brand of disco pop.
