Night Riots To Perform on Alt Nation’s Advanced Placement Tour

alt

Los Angeles-based rock band Night Riots have announced an October 21st release for new album Love Gloom (Sumerian Records). The band has already released two preview tracks from the album – “Nothing Personal” and “Fangs”.

Fans can get both “Nothing Personal” and “Fangs”—plus “Contagious,” the hit single from last year’s Howl EP—as instant downloads by clicking HERE to pre-order Love Gloom on iTunes.

Night Riots—vocalist Travis Hawley, guitarists Nick Fotinakes and Matt DePauw, bassist Mikel Van Kranenburg and drummer Rico Rodriguez—recorded the album with producer Joe Chiccarelli (Morrissey, Spoon, The Strokes) at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles.

“We recorded in the same room where Led Zeppelin recorded ‘Whole Lotta Love,’ says Hawley. “It was pretty inspiring to come in each day, walk through a hall of gold records and see pictures of Jim Morrison sitting at the console where we mixed.  We even had a few weird celebrity sightings, like the time Mikel bumped into Lenny Kravitz and his procession of super models.  He flashed a peace sign, said ‘what’s up,’ and sauntered off, his scarf dancing on the ground behind him as he walked.”

About the album title, Hawley says, “Love gloom is within all of us.  It’s a collision of emotions.  It’s when you need love and can’t find it.  It’s the sickness of wanting someone and not knowing if they feel the same way.  It’s the tearing of a breakup and the coldness of a partner during a fight. We wanted to make an album that sounded like ecstasy and despair and make the listener feel like they’re climaxing and suffocating at the same time.”

Love Gloom is the follow-up to 2015’s Howl EP, which featured “Contagious,” a song that hit No. 1 on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation while amassing over 4.5 million streams.

Night Riots have been compared to The Cure (by MTV) and The Killers (Earmilk), described as “new wavey bliss” (Billboard) and praised for their “anthemic, synth-laden rock” (Spin). Buzzbands, who recently premiered “Fangs,” praised the band for “fashioning the sound of urban desperados wandering rain-slickened streets, hearts playing tug-of-war with hope and despair.” Over the course of the past couple of years, the group has shared stages with the likes of Lana Del Rey, Morrissey, Cage The Elephant, Walk The Moon, OK Go, The Mowgli’s, Angels & Airwaves and many more, while garnering praise from the likes of  KCRWHuffington Post, KROQ, All Things Go, Nylon and AV Club, among others.

Prior to the upcoming “Alt Nation” tour with The Shelters and The Hunna, Night Riots will be playing a string of dates, including an October 21st album release show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.

Newest Love: Stone Cold Fox

scf

“The five-track effort is likened to a roadtrip, “a collection of journeys” in which Stone Cold Fox venture out to discover who they really are when all the layers are peeled back and they’re forced to look in the mirror.”
– Consequence of Sound

“…delivering dancey and joyful synthesizer beats, overlaid with groovey guitar leads. The band has an innate knack for finding the sweet spot of catchy music that isn’t shallow, leading you to want to teleport from your shitty apartment to an island paradise. “
– NOISEY

“…while it retains energy, [Firing Squad] opts for something far more ethereal. The track basks in a haze of guitar effects and subtle performances, proving that Stone Cold Fox can sound subdued without feeling lethargic…”
– The AV CLUB

“Amongst the slew of synth pop revivalists, Brooklyn-based four piece Stone Cold Fox are doing things a little differently. By staring their song producing process with an indie-rock core, they craft songs that are essentially guitar led, before channeling that heart into an addictive electronic, synth-heavy format.
– Wonderland Magazine
The best kind of road trips are the ones that are spontaneous. You know where you want to go, you have a final destination in mind – you just don’t necessarily know how you’re going to get there. But that’s ok, because it’s all about the journey, right? Brooklyn-based four piece, Stone Cold Fox want to take a road trip with you- they’ll get you to where you want to go, you just gotta let them take the wheel, because in the end whatever will be, will be. And the soundtrack? Their EP, Tunnel Vision.

Tunnel Vision is a stunning contradiction- a collection of journeys made up of distorted dance synths that bleed with a rock-heavy heart. Written, recorded and produced over a period of two years, the sound of Tunnel Vision resembles a mindset that is anything but narrow minded- instead, it’s a collection of tracks that skew in every which way, that ultimately steer back to it’s original course to create a wistful, cohesive sound. “Tracks started as total rock songs, then turned into chilled electro songs, eventually finding its way somewhere comfortably in the middle,” explains guitarist and vocalist Kevin. “They find middle ground with a rock core and a dancey pulse,” he adds. So, imagine a world where John Lennon is rose from the dead and conceived a love child with The Strokes while listening to LCD Soundsystem and Beat Connection – that’s the kind of world that Tunnel Vision creates.

If you’re digging that sound — check out the EP here and now:

Check ‘Em Out: The Singularity – “Wetter”

The Singularity’s first single and video, “Wetter,” from the self-produced/released EP entitled Weta is a sexually cathartic yet visually transfixing representation of the song’s elements of Bowie-glam mixed with the edginess of The Strokes. Additionally, the track just hit #13 on the national specialty radio charts and was named WXRT’s “Song Of The Week.”

Frontman and multi-instrumentalist Julian Shah-Tayler (formerly of the band Whitey)’s childlike fascination with science, space and the big questions that trouble the human condition has fueled the creative output of The Singularity’s electronic rock and roll since the band’s inception in 2012. “Everything burst out of the center of a supermassive black hole,” remarks Julian, “and we are going back there one day, so let’s just enjoy it.”

As for the video, Shah-Tayler explained that he is “huge fan of films such as Linklater’s Waking Life, David Lynch and the styles of Scanner Darkly and Sin City. We wanted to create a dreamlike quality through the ‘animation’ style of the video whilst still maintaining a dark sexuality reflecting the slightly creepy lyrics. It was a real collaboration between the director, editor and artist.”

The single and video eloquently sums up The Singularity’s manifesto and echoes the hedonistic attitude of the band. A Londoner relocated to LA, Julian’s catalog of music prolifically exceeds 300 songs, many of which have been featured in films and hit TV shows including Breaking Bad, The Sopranos and The Newsroom, while also turning up on broadcasts ranging from UK television’s Popstar to NBC Sports.

In 2014, Shah-Tayler won a Golden Trailer award for his work with Lana Del Ray on Disney’s Maleficent trailer. He also performed one of his songs in front of Bill Clinton, Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorsese for the Unite For Humanity charity at the Oscars.

Three of his songs were the “hits” for the focus band in the music movie Plush, directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Lords Of Dogtown). Additionally, Shah-Tayler did all this while co-founding an LA charity called Art Angeles, teaching music to underprivileged kids in Watts.

Must Download: The Delta Routine – “New York Avenue”

Listen/download: The Delta Routine – “New York Avenue”

“Milwaukee’s Delta Routine can rock the blues and deliver grade-A hooks just as well as any of its contemporaries. It’s no wonder they’ve been receiving plenty of accolades in their hometown”– MAGNET MAGAZINE

“Influenced by the Stooges, the Stones, Kings of Leon, the Ramones, and Robert Johnson, Milwaukee’s The Delta Routine is built upon the raw elements of guitar-driven rock. Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Nick Amadeus creates memorable hooks and quirky riffs all while paying homage to the old days of rock & roll.” – THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER

“On its third full-length album, Cigarettes & Caffeine Nightmares, the band serves up 11 fat-free slices of hooky, slithery, and perfectly pitched tunes that wouldn’t be out of place in the early ’00s—or the ’70s that inspired those early ’00s. It’s an unabashedly enjoyable collection from one of Milwaukee’s most unabashedly populist bands. Cigarettes & Caffeine is a big step up from 2011’s More About You, and finds The Delta Routine up to its ears in songs exceedingly well-crafted.” – Matt Wild / THE ONION A.V.CLUB

“I won’t waste your time now,” Delta Routine frontman Nick Amadeus sings with his Liam Gallagher-esque vocals on the opening track. He’s true to his word. At 32 minutes, the album is mercifully low on fat but thrills all the same with warped organ and guitar reverb snarls on “Switchblade.” Likewise, “Around Your Neck” does its bluesy, White Stripes-like, swagger-soaked thing in less than two minutes’ time.”  – Piet Levy / JOURNAL SENTINEL

“The Delta Routine’s new single “Switchblade,” from their new album Cigarettes and Caffeine Nightmares sounds like early Oasis, but with a definite Midwest vibe.” –88NINE RADIO MILWAUKEE

“If you love a mixture of 60s rock ‘n’ roll, angsty punk and modern day indie, then The Delta Routine’s Cigarettes & Caffeine Nightmares is definitely an album you’ll love.” – SHOW ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT: UK

“Nods appreciatively at the likes of The Rolling Stones, Oasis and The Strokes whilst ensuring they don’t just sound like copycats.” – PLUG IN MUSIC
