Can’t Get Enough FØNX

British artist, songwriter and producer FØNX has today released his debut single ‘Can’t Get Enough’, which was produced by Grammy award-winner Tommaso Colliva (Muse).

FØNX explains, “’Can’t Get Enough’ came about whilst I was homeless and sofa surfing for a couple of months and after a very colorful twenty-four hours, I found myself writing initial ideas for the song”.

Drawing influence from the likes of Kanye West, Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean, D’Angelo, John Mayer and Tame Impala, FØNX delivers R’n’B-infused pop with jazz, funk and soul influences, merging catchy grooves, memorable hooks and intricate guitar licks with inspired lyrical content.

Coming from a musical background FØNX started learning guitar at the age of seven and was soon introduced to rap and hip hop, sparking his enthusiasm to start writing lyrics and create backing tracks from samples.

FØNX continued experimenting with music and film during a number of years of home-schooling and soon enrolled at the Brit School where he studied music.

Since leaving, FØNX has continued writing and producing his music at home, on trains, buses, in coffee shops and backstage before shows, constantly coming up with ideas for melodies and lyrics wherever he went. Playing the live circuit around London and the South East he has also performed at various festivals including Barn on The Farm, Cornbury Festival, Isle Of Wight Festival and Leefest.

Video: Corner Suns – “The Rattle in the Room”

Brandon Carr of folk-psychedelia band The Earlies and John Dufilho of experimental pop group The Apples In Stereo and indie rockers The Deathray Davies have joined forces to create Corner Suns.

Combining neo-psych and baroque pop, the Dallas-based band released their eponymous debut via Idol Records in January 2017 after Dufilho tempted Carr back into music following a period during which Carr says he’d “given up on it”. Corner Suns’ memorable melodies, catchy hooks, and insightful lyrics, influenced by the likes of The Zombies, Magnetic Fields, and The Shins, are all evident on new single “The Rattle in the Room”, providing ample proof that this is a musical pairing worth coming out of retirement for.

Asked about Corner Suns’ sound, John says “To me, Corner Suns sounds like The Deathray Davies, The Apples in Stereo, The Earlies, John Singer Sergeant, CLIFFFS – all rolled into one record. It’s actually beyond that. Dallas bands I’ve played with and loved, recording engineer friends of mine I’ve learned from… I’m lucky to have people like Brandon to collaborate with, as it’s a million times better than on my own. More fun, too.”

“The Rattle in the Room” is released on Idol Records on 12th May 2017.

“‘The Rattle In The Room’ is the kind of quirky pop-rock that the two originally made their names on, and Sarah Jaffe lends her distinctive voice for some sparkling backing harmonies. The song is literally about how much fun it is to make music, and you can hear it. It’s a reset button for two music veterans.”

“…the psychedelic stylings of Tame Impala but with a trancier, more hypnotic groove that lingers in your mind long after listening.”

New Music From Krautrockers, Dinowalrus

unnamed

“…a heady concoction of swirling mellotron and jangling guitar, a deep Madchester groove that will inspire some serious head-nodding.”Stereogum

“…the magical surrealism that could only come from a band named Dinowalrus”NPR

“…a strange and heady brew of psychedelia, Krautrock, Gang Gang Dance-style electro experimentation and, perhaps most strangely of all, take on late 80s British indie-dance.”The Line of Best Fit

“…will leave you feeling all kinds of happily dazed.”Consequence of Sound

Brooklyn DIY stalwarts Dinowalrus are announcing their latest endeavor – the fourth studio album from the band will be released September 23, and the world can get a preview with the jangling psych-gaze single, “Tides.”

FAIRWEATHER, the fourth album from omnivorous Brooklyn rockers Dinowalrus, sees the quartet refining their potent post-modern psychedelia and distilling the successes of their previous two outings, COMPLEXION and BEST BEHAVIOR, into a coherent and compelling package of eleven single-worthy songs, covering territory ranging from baggy Madchester party beats to melancholy space ballads and perpetual-motion-machine krautrock groovers. After albums marked by exuberance and moodiness, FAIRWEATHER is more even-keeled—the sound of a fundamentally playful band that has attained a steady level of confidence, calm, and poise, even as they bob and weave through their ocean of sounds.

The album begins with psych-rock offerings “Tides” and “Falling to the Periphery,” fueled by jangly guitar and punchy mellotrons, with sunny textures belying a cosmic angst via a ’60s meets ’90s meets 2016 aesthetic. Next, the album’s tempo gradually increases into an acid rock/house-derived middle section anchored by the lumbering squelch of “Guilty,” with frontman Pete Feigenbaum begging for forgiveness: “I’m guilty—do you still believe me?” After the Motorik minimalism of “Light Rain,” the album descends into a murky, shoegazing dreamworld of infinite breakbeats yielding optimistic flashes (“Compass Rose”) and futuristic wall-of-sound doomscapes (“The Silent Earth”).

Produced by the band in their own studio, FAIRWEATHER brings back the excitement and playfulness of their debut album % (PERCENT), while imbuing a newfound sense of refinement and clarity to the mixes, coupling the experience from their recent studio endeavors with more concise and quick-moving yet provocative arrangements.

Although heavily dosed with electronics, FAIRWEATHER contrasts the dystopian industrial arpeggiators of their previous albums with a warm, timeless palette of organs, looped breakbeats, and radio-ready vocals, including the occasional psychedelic flourish of reversed guitars and exploding delay trails. As a result, the music moves forward by looking back, bringing to mind the work of contemporaries like Jagwar Ma, Tame Impala, and Deerhunter, while also incorporating some of the more exciting and psychedelic pop sounds of the early ’90s Creation Records back catalog with aesthetic nods to The House of Love, Primal Scream, and Ride.

Dinowalrus will also be playing a hometown release show at Rough Trade NYC on September 25 (tickets available here). The band will be joined by Sharkmuffin, Dead Leaf Echo, and Drawing Boards.

Tame Impala Releases Live Versions

Tame Impala band

Tame Impala has released Live Versions, an album of songs selected from a 2013 Chicago Tame Impala concert on Interscope Records. Chief songwriter Kevin Parker chose the 9 tracks for the record based on how different the live versions are from the album versions. Parker’s goal was to give fans something they won’t already have; something they’ve only previously experienced at a Tame Impala show. Songs from this show were recorded by and broadcast on WXRT. Live Versions was originally released on vinyl only as a limited release in celebration of 2014’s Record Store Day and was the highest selling Record Store Day 2014 release. The album will be made widely available via Amazon MP3, iTunes, and Google Play.

Newest Love: Ghost Wave

Ghost Wave are one of those rare new bands that already knows exactly what they want. The last time we heard this much rookie talent from Auckland, New Zealand, it came in the form of The Naked & Famous, and we all know how that turned out (well. Very well.). On debut single “Sunsetter,” The Wave set their sights high and aim straight for anthem status, constructing two and half minutes of sunkissed 70’s bliss around a massive Dandy Warhols Lick that hides in the crosshairs of Deerhunter and Tame Impala.
