smallpools1

Smallpools has announced their 4-song self-titled debut EP release on July 16th via RCA Records. In honor of the news, the band decided to share a brand new “Dreaming” remix by The Chainsmokers and last week NYLON Magazine premiered the Charli XCX vs Twin Idol Remix of “Dreaming”. The band will reveal another brand new EP track before the start of their first tour.

The four-piece outfit founded in Los Angeles with ties to New York, New Jersey and Oregon. Last week Smallpools announced their first ever live shows, a tour with Australia’s San Cisco that will take them from the East Coast to Canada, through the Mid West and San Francisco and ends in Los Angeles. The brand new band consists of Sean (vocals/keys), Mike (guitar), Joe (bass) and Beau (drums).

Their first single “Dreaming” was produced by Captain Cuts. The song instantly shot to #1 of Hype Machine within the first 3 days of revealing. The band explains the song: “In contrast to the upbeat vibe of the music, the song talks about a moment where everything goes wrong in a situation where you thought you had it all figured out.  A moment we’ve all experienced to some degree, but most often if we’re lucky, in a dream where we get to wake up in a sweat and say, “Phewf, ok, that wasn’t real.” “

Highly Anticipated: Stereophonics New Album!!!

stereophonics

One of the most durable and consistently successful bands ever to come out of the U.K. band scene, Stereophonics return to North America August 20th with the release of their chart topping U.K. album Graffiti on the Train; their eighth studio album, out on MapleMusic Recordings and their own Stylus Records.

graffitionthetrain

Graffiti On The Train Tracklisting:

1. We Share The Same Sun

2. Graffiti On The Train

3. Indian Summer

4. Take Me

5. Catacomb

6. Roll The Dice

7. Violins And Tambourines

8. Been Caught Cheating

9. In A Moment

10. No One’s Perfect

Released earlier this year in the U.K., Graffiti on the Train entered the U.K. charts at number 3 and has remained in the Top 20 ever since. Affirming that this is their best album in a decade, the album has quickly gone gold and is well on its way to platinum status.

Written by lead vocalist and guitarist Kelly Jones and produced by Kelly Jones and Jim Lowe, Graffiti on the Train is the final piece in the puzzle for a newly refined and cinematic Stereophonics, a band that has London’s Sunday Times calling this album their “least conventional yet”, praising its “newfound lightness of touch” and confirming “the album contains Jones’s best work of his career.”

A storyteller first and foremost Kelly Jones unravels storylines and sketches characters with poetic finesse – inspired by the screenplay he has been working on of the same name, Graffiti On A Train is a fascinating, filmic LP unlike anything the group have attempted in the past. Loosely telling the story of two friends who flee the country after a tragic accident, the record is both reflective and surprisingly fragile.

We find Jones at the helm of all the videos from this album, which he has both written and directed including the first North American single, “Indian Summer.” Upon release in the U.K. earlier this year, “Indian Summer” marked the band’s 26th Top 40 hit on the U.K. charts.

As one of the best live bands imported from the U.K. in the last twenty years, North America will be treated to select tour dates and an Indian Summer to be remembered. At a recent U.K. show, John Earls of the Daily Star noted, “Girls sat on their boyfriends shoulders, Welsh flags were held aloft, beer was thrown everywhere and the singalongs kept coming.”

Having spanned decades of success selling over 9 million career albums and currently sitting at the top of U.K. album charts, this return to the other side of the pond is a tour not to be missed. Their North American tour kicks off in Philadelphia on September 19 at the Theatre of Living Arts. See below for more tour dates.

Highly Anticipated: New Music From The Dig

Today, New York’s The Dig reveal their “Over You Again” with FILTER, which says: “this is one of those songs we can listen to over and over again, leaving listeners in a gorgeous daze afterwards, lost in total reflection. “ the listener into their melancholy lyrics and dreamy melody with their brand new track “Angeline”. David Baldwin, one of the two front singers, complements the mix of smooth and sultry alt rock in this first track of the new Tired Hearts EP on June 4th, which is produced by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, The Apples In Stereo, Swans, Antony & The Johnsons). The band is gearing up for a new tour this summer (see dates below).

The Dig’s sound has been developing ever since the band’s two singers Emile Mosseri and David Baldwin started making music together when they were eleven years old. After meeting California native Erick Eiser, the three songwriters have been writing tunes and playing in different bands since they were 16 years old. Anchored by sharp guitars and a woozy synth backdrop, their last record, Midnight Flowers, also produced by Bryce Goggin, came out in 2012 on Buffalo Jump Records. It recalls styles ranging from T. Rex to Brian Eno. Several of the songs off Midnight Flowers have been featured in a variety of TV/Film, including placements in Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries and most recently a song featured in the season finale of USA’s SUITS.Following their acclaimed 2010 debut, “Electric Toys,” The Dig amassed a passionate national fan base with magnetic live performances, and have since shared the stage with bands such as Portugal, The Man, The Antlers, and The Walkmen. The band began writing new songs while on the road and between tours. “When we were writing ‘I Already Forgot Everything You Said,'” Baldwin recalls, “we had just gotten off the road and we were listening to a lot of Bob Dylan’s ‘Time Out of Mind.’ I think that influence found its way into that song particularly.” Mark Demiglio (drums) moved to New York from Texas to join the band following the recording of Midnight Flowers.

The Dig is proud to be releasing their new EP entitled Tired Hearts on June 4th, 2013 and doing a full US national headlining tour starting in early June and ending at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on July 12th.

Video: Baby Alpaca – “Sea of Dreams”

BabyAlpaca

New York’s band Baby Alpaca is a 3-piece group that consists of Chris Kittrell (vocals, autoharp), Zach McMillan (guitar, backing vocals) and Robert Phillips (drums).   The first single “Sea of Dreams” is a slow building and burning track off of the Baby Alpaca EP that will be released via Atlas Chair Records on June 25th. NPR’s Bob Boilen said this about the video, which is directed by the Cincinnati-native Chris Kittrell: “My dreams are never like Chris Kittrell’s “Sea Of Dreams,” but I wish they were. Watching this animation will be as close as I get”.

“…Sea of Dreams, which channels The Smiths with it’s dreamy, light dada-rock production – think soft, romantic rock that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. The debut EP ranges from playful to emotional, but always leaves you impressed. “ – Disco Naïveté

Check ‘Em Out: Mortar & Pestle

mp

Oakland, California–based trio Mortar & Pestle is set to release its debut EP on May 7th via the local label Post Primal.  They’re the kind of band that makes the kind of “this reminds me of the summer when…” songs that stick. These are tunes which bring up the feelings that make memories, bridging genres and weaving the past and future into a retrospective ride towards tomorrow. The loss, pain, anger and triumph are heard in Lambert’s soulful voice; a voice that gets right to the heart of the matter, and like a female Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode, her pure emotion sits perfectly complimented by her band’s electronics. The arresting first single “U.V.” recently premiered via SPIN.  “‘U.V. is about the effect love has,” says lead singer Janaysa Lambert. “It’s warm at first, and fills us with expansive joy, but not unlike the rays of the sun, it can age us quickly.”

The sounds of a pinball machine in the opening of the tune might say fun, the same way PartyBingo says fun, but make no mistake; the song gives way to a darkness that is real.  Born on the kitchen piano of a studio apartment, days after Lambert and keyboardist Paul Shinichi first met at a mutual friend’s party, the two were joined within the year by drummer Sean Paul Duke. Tragically, the friend who brought them together met with an untimely death shortly after she gave the band its name.

“She wanted to be the one to name us,” says Shinichi. “We were struggling with a name for months, and then she came up with Mortar & Pestle. I think honoring her life is one reason why we are together. This album is really about her.”  The band is also now completing a music video for “U.V.” that is as moving as the song itself.  And, even with the upcoming release of Mortar & Pestle’s debut, the band is already writing its next release.

Brand New: CSS – “Hangover”

CSS

“This album was written and recorded in LA. We had a lot of fun doing it, we met some incredible people on this process. We felt very free with song structures and melodies. Working with them in an intuitive/more melodic way. Treating each song as it’s own thing. ‘Hangover’ is like summer in space.” – CSS

From the acclaimed 2006 debut Cansei De Ser Sexy to 2011’s La Liberación, CSS returns with their fourth studio album Planta, produced by TV On The Radio’s David Sitek (The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Scarlet Johansson, Santigold). While exploring new ways of writing, Planta’s infectious tones show a unique combination of pop, dance, punk and reggae that make for the perfect summer soundtrack.

Co-written by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, the playful, synth-and-beats-filled track “Hangover” delivers the energy that keeps the party going strong until the morning after.

Planta consists of irresistibly danceable tracks beginning with the album’s first offering, “Honey” and the intensely energetic “Dynamite”. With a seamless downshift, CSS charms you with songs like “Sweet” and “Frankie Goes to North Hollywood” slowing things down for an easy sunny afternoon listen as you soak up the mesmerizing electronic notes. Like a Planta to water this album is a celebration of love, friendship, and fun.

Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow to Release Debut Solo Album

andrewwyatt

Andrew Wyatt, better known to most as the front man of indie powerhouse electronic pop band Miike Snow, has announced his first solo project, Descender, slated for release on MapleMusic Recordings and INGRID/Downtown Records on April 16th.

Descender is a 32 minute meditation into the darker side of Andrew Wyatt not seen on his latest endeavors with Miike Snow.  The introspection weaves amazingly intricate soundscapes and is explored with the use of Prague’s Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Adam Klemens. The album also includes cameos from Anthony Rossomando of The Libertines, Brad Traux formerly of Interpol and John Herndon of Tortoise.  The marrying of these elements spawned a huddled romanticism which permeates the record’s sweeping string arrangements with Wyatt’s vulnerable and haunting vocals.

Listen: Andrew Wyatt – “And Septimus…”

The creation of this album was more elaborate than anything Andrew has attempted before marking the first time he wrote, orchestrated and produced an entire album solely on his own.

Andrew Wyatt – Descender Tracklist:

1.  Horse Latitudes

2.  Harlem Boyzz

3.  Cluster Subs

4.  She’s Changed

5.  And Septimus…

6.  It Won’t Let You Go

7.  Descender (Death of 1000 Cuts)

8.  In Paris They Know How to Build a Monument

9.  There is a Spring

Debut Album From Atlas Genius Out Today!

atlasgenius

When It Was Now, the long awaited and highly anticipated full-length debut from Atlas Genius, is out today! The band wrote, recorded and produced the album at a studio they built in their hometown of Adelaide, Australia. They will perform their hit single, “Trojans,” on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” tonight and play a sold-out record release show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY tomorrow, February 20th. The record release show will be broadcast by SiriusXM Alt Nation on Friday evening and then throughout the weekend.

Their song “Symptoms” is currently the iTunes Single of the Week. New single “If So,” praised by Rolling Stone for its “dream-like guitar licks, shifty hi-hats and a meaty bass backbone,” is already gaining momentum at radio and online, where it has over 75,000 Sound Cloud streams in 2 weeks.

Last week, the band introduced new songs off of When It Was Now…

Listen: Atlas Genius – “Electric” via Neon Gold

Listen: Atlas Genius – “Centred On You” via Indie Shuffle

Taking its inspiration from the album artwork, the trailer for When It Was Now was shot underwater. It was directed by Claire Marie Vogel, who lensed the “Trojans” and “Symptoms” videos. When It Was Now is available now at iTunes.

Their sold-out tour with Imagine Dragons is underway and stops at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on February 23rd and the Wiltern in Los Angeles on March 20th. Atlas Genius will perform at SXSW on March 13th (KCRW’s Official SXSW nighttime showcase) and March 14th (The Warner Sound showcase). They have also just announced new shows at The Bowery Ballroom in New York, Edgefest in Dallas, and Sasquatch! Festival at The Gorge in Washington.
