Santigold Video Featuring YOU!!!

santigold

Today marks the release of Santigold’s third album, 99¢.  She has revealed an innovative new video for “Can’t Get Enough Of Myself (feat. B.C.)” that uses the camera of the viewer’s computer or mobile device to incorporate them into the video in real time. This is the first time the technology has been used in a music video. The video was directed by Santigold and Sam Fleischner and conceptualized and digitally developed by Yung Jake and Vince Mckelvie, with mobile app development by Bryan Yee. It plays on pop culture’s fascination with viewing and manipulating one’s own image. The video should be viewed on the web using Chrome as the browser and is available for mobile handheld devices via the “SANTIGOLD” app available in both the Apple/Android app stores. The video is premiering on Mashable, experience it here and at Santigold.com/Webcam

Stream the new full album via NPR here.

Santigold and Tumblr IRL are hosting a special record release event at Jack’s 99¢ Store (110 W. 32ndSt.) in New York City this Friday, February 26th as part of Tumblr’s IRL ongoing series. The free event will feature a DJ set, art installation, and more surprises. Santigold’s Tumblr has been functioning as a visual extension of the album’s themes of hyper-consumption and narcissism with exclusive videos being added continually. The series of pop up windows in the site’s design echo the experience of navigating through advertisements when searching online. The event will bring the world of 99¢ and Santigold’s Tumblr to life! Follow IRLIRL.tumblr.com for entry details.

Video: Gemini – “Time To Share”

TRAVEL TO SOUTHEAST ASIA WITH GEMINI IN THE STUNNING NEW “TIME TO SHARE” VIDEO

Earlier this month, I posted a link to listen to Gemini’s (Thomas Slinger) new single “Time To Share”, a vivid, verdant electronic pop infused track with intercontinental influence. Now, the UK electronic artist debuts the stunning visual to accompany the track. Shot by Slinger himself during a 3-month voyage across South East Asia, what follows is a mesmerising and transportive video.

Speaking about the video, Slinger explains:

“Given the current political climate of the world – I wanted to share that there are many incredible people, beautiful untouched landscapes and so many positive things happening. Time To Share was filmed over 3 months – My girlfriend and I went on a life changing experience that took place across South East Asia. We climbed volcanoes, explored ancient civilisations, met the kindest people and cared for gentle giants. Each and every moment was magical. It took all of my strength to produce this video but I’m looking forward to shooting more and I’m so proud to finally share it.”

Video: Telegram – “Taffy Come Home”

Telegram

Recorded on a red lighthouse boat, moored at Trinity Bouy Wharf in East India Quays, the eagerly awaited debut from London four-piece Telegram is set for release March 18 via Red Eye. Operator is a series of frenzied meditations on Time and Speed, steeped in the sensitivity and strangeness of Kurt Vonnegut and approached through the erstwhile themes of love and intoxication. Melding post industrialist kraut rock with garage rock and the best bits of Eno and Bolan, the album offers twelve luminescent tracks, rooted in solid grooves but anti-gravitational in your mind’s eye.

Lead single “Taffy Come Home” is the album’s totemic standout. The video accompaniment for the track, which premiered on BrooklynVegan, was produced by Douglas Hart (an original member of The Jesus & Mary Chain) and is featured on Q Magazine. The track is the biggest pop song on the record, it is also – quixotically – the most personal, and the best demonstration of lead singer Matt Saunders’ supremely lyrical style. His lyrics share their despair, as well as their radical optimism and their pugnacious approach to the world’s harshness. For ears that have come across Telegram and stayed attuned, singles “Follow” and “Aeons” astound a second time, licked in a fresh coat of blinding enamel, alongside live favorites “Folly” and “Regatta”. Rerecorded, they’ve been elevated through work on the minute details.

Formed almost spontaneously in 2013, Matt Saunders (vocals, guitar), Oli Paget-Moon (bass) and Matt Wood (lead guitar) were repeatedly drifting together in kitchens, living rooms and makeshift studios. With whichever party it was reaching a certain depth and pressure, they decided to cut against the drift and commit their shared time to history in musical form. Wunderkind drummer Jordan Cook was recruited and, with a blistering run of shows, the band became extraordinarily tight. Moreover, they were made sensitive to the subtleties and extravagances of good performance. Once the album was recorded, Pip Stakem took over lead guitar and the band is now set to embark on a string of UK dates. Telegram will then be bringing their dynamic live show to Austin for SXSW 2016 as well as New York City on March 24 at Pianos to celebrate the release of the album.

1. Rule Number One
2. Follow
3. Inside/Outside

Newest Love: Paradise Animals – “Monday Morning”

Paradise

Monday morning I received an email from these guys…with their song “Monday Morning”!!! Coincidence. Nope. Not at all.

And this song is awesome!

The single is from the band’s LP Day Bed, and it’s their very first full length. The album was recorded and produced by the whole band in both Northern Ontario and Toronto.

From the band:
Day Bed is the place we go to rest in the daylight. A place where memories wash over us; a place where we pause and think about life. It’s a collection of songs that highlights the warmth and happiness of family and childhood, the heartbreak of relationships, and the randomness of social life in the 21st century.
Check out the video:
And look out for Day Bed on November 13th!

The Royal Concept Tour Dates + Lyric Video For “Fashion”

unnamed (1)

“I dress like shit, call it fashion — but your fashion’s the shit”

The Royal Concept have announced dates for their upcoming fall headline tour exclusively. The Swedish alternative pop quartet will perform in major markets across North America in support of their brand new EP, Smile —available at all digital retailers now. You can see the full itinerary below.

Just last week, the boys premiered the lyric video for their latest single “Fashion.” Merging together retro-style performance footage and a striking color scheme, the clip visually complements the song’s distinct musical strut. Watch it HERE!

The band consistently garners acclaim from critics. LA Music Blog wrote, “The group continues to blend funk, indie, and pop, tying it all together with uplifting choruses that are perfect for the end of summer.”

To record Smile, The Royal Concept — David Larson [vocals], Filip Bekic [guitar], Magnus Robert [bass], and Frans Povel [drums]—entered a Los Angeles studio with producer Tony Hoffer [M83, Phoenix, Depeche Mode, The Kooks] behind the board. The EP’s five tracks bristle with an unshakable energy and swaggering charm. First single “Fashion” straddles the lines between funk, indie, and pop, converging on an anthemic refrain.

The Royal Concept ignited an international buzz with their 2013 smash “D-D-Dance.” It soared to #2 on Hype Machine, as follow-up songs “Gimme Twice” and “World on Fire” landed at #3 on #1. Their debut The Royal EP also saw them receive coverage from Rolling Stone, Billboard, FILTER Magazine, Alternative Addiction!, and more. Meanwhile, Examiner predicted, “there are big things ahead of this group” and Glamour proclaimed “Gimme Twice” “one of this summer’s big hit songs.”  “On Our Way” became their biggest hit, landing over 25 syncs including Glee, FIFA 14, and more.

Must Watch Video: Brick + Mortar – “Hollow Tune”

unnamed

Brick + Mortar have released a new music video in support of their recent EP Dropped for their song “Hollow Tune.” The video shows the story of a soldier, who recently returned from duty, preventing a would-be hate crime. When reached out to comment, the band told OUT, “We make music for people who believe in equality and acceptance for everyone regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or belief. This song was written about love to say: ‘You’re not alone, I’m not alone,’ to the one you love. Love is love period.'”

Brick + Mortar have built a movement by spreading the message of positivity, understanding, and empathy with their indie rock with as much pop as there is grit.

Video: Nick Pes – “California”

nicpes

This week Sydney singer, songwriter and producer Nick Pes is revealing the self-directed music video for his new single “California”, the first track to fall from his upcoming debut EP.

“The video for California is inspired by the works of David Lynch and California itself. I shot it on location in Los Angeles and around Yosemite – there are a few nods to Twin Peaks that tie in to the other worldly ness of the dreamland of California – I’ve tried to create a dreamscape with the synths and guitar in the the song itself, and the video is meant to be a continuation of that dreaminess. It’s less a narrative but more a series of vignettes. I wanted it to feel like someone had found an old video-tape that had been recorded over again and again – like a time capsule” – Nick Pes

“California” was written about Nick’s love for the “land of dreams”. He remembers first reading about the early European discovery of California, where explorers thought it was actually an island, and were attracted by stories of Amazonian women, pearls and gold.

While the single is mainly based on those ideals, it also has an underlying metaphorical meaning for a relationship; when you need to say goodbye to someone simply because the timing just isn’t right. The hope is that you never let go of one another, and that one day you will be together again.

A steady retro-fuelled beat drives the summery, nostalgic charm of “California”. Nick’s voice holds a warm calming presence as the song continues to flow with atmospheric indulgence, distant guitar whispers and golden showers of shimmering synth.

“California” delivers on its intentions of empowerment as it rewards you with the feeling of being ready to take on anything the world throws your way.

Foreign Tongues – “Fools of Love”

unnamed

Indie rockers Foreign Tongues has premiered a new video for their song “Fools of Love” from their recently released record Fragile, As Said Before. Fans can purchase the new album now!

The band’s stunning new video for “Fools of Love” was shot and directed by Erik Rojas. “Cam and I had talked about this idea for a music video several months ago, and after getting some talented friends on board, we decided to go for it,” Rojas says. “From a narrative standpoint, I think it’s safe to say it’s a story about realizing that sometimes you’re not alone, even though that may seem like the case.”
““Fools of Love” is more a story song introducing the record,” says singer Cam Moretti. “It mainly discusses the last year of my life and the ebb and flow I went through. To me life is a series of highs and lows and understanding and grasping that is how I learn to feel content. I wanted the video to be more of a narrative piece that portrays that.”

Watch: Video from Myami – “Soldier”

Melbourne singer-songwriter Myami has released her official film clip for debut single “Soldier“. The track, produced by beatmaker and collaborator Wayfarer//, has enjoyed nods of approval from online publications including ComplexPigeons and Planes, and other internationally reaching blogs. The single, and subsequent video is largely based on themes of being a female going into the music industry, communicating the weight of the fears and expectations she has, as well as working out how to navigate the ins and outs of the industry.

It begins in a white pristine room, paying reference to a new beginning and clean fresh start.  The black paint symbolises the entrance of her own, and other people’s expectations, contributions, opinions and rules. Through the clip MYAMI is very aware of their presence and grapples with the combination of her own vision and the constant flood and permanency of black.

Progressively, she is able to figure out how to make the industry and her vision work together (as shown in the neon scenes) – thus forming the branding of MYAMI.
