New track: Plants and Animals – “Lightshow”

“Proggy without being self-indulgent…folky without being boring. They’ve got enough pop chops to keep even the most casual music fan’s ears glued to the stereo.” – KUT Austin

“Punching into the Canadian band’s strolling folk rock are these warm, tall sips of guitar solos. They sound as if they’re conjured from the shag-carpet of an old 70′s studio — it’s palpable as shit.” – Consequence of Sound

“Clocking in at a lean three and a half minutes, ‘Lightshow’ is neither stripped-down or overblown — instead, it’s a perfect example of rock ‘n’ roll precision…that sort of big-time, anthemic rock song that says what it has to say in a half-dozen ways, and as hard as it may try, never goes out of style.” – MTV Hive

Plants and Animals are pleased to announce a North American tour this March and April in support of their new album, The End of That, out February 28 on Secret City. This is the band’s first tour as a four piece, having added a bassist to their live show.

The band will also release a 7” for ‘Lightshow’, the first single off of The End of That, which will be available in stores on the same day as the CD/LP. The 7” features a live cover of Wolf Parade’s “I’ll Believe in Anything” on the B-side. A digital version of the 7” is available now via iTunes and other online retailers.

The live cover comes from the band’s “Live at Breakglass” performance during the Pop Montreal Festival in September of last year. The renowned Montreal studio hosted a combined live recording / intimate concert event as part of the tenth anniversary of the festival. Plants and Animals celebrated the milestone by covering local Montreal acts in addition to performing their own material.

New Album: The Cure – Live at Bestival 2011

ATTENTION: All fans of The Cure (OMG – I’m so excited!!!)

Sunday Best Recordings is thrilled to announce the December 6th release of The Cure: Bestival Live 2011, a live recording of the iconic bands incredible, career-spanning two and a half hour set performed at this year’s Bestival.

The double album, which is split over two CDs and also available as a digital download is made up of thirty-two Cure classics, including “The Lovecats,” “The Caterpillar,” “Close To Me,” “Friday I’m In Love,” “Lullaby,” “The Hungry Ghost,” “The End Of The World,” “Just Like Heaven,” “Grinding Halt,” “Jumping Someone Else’s Train” and “Boys Don’t Cry.”

Of the live album, Robert Smith of The Cure says “We had such a great time in the Isle of Wight at Bestival that we wanted to release this show as a way of thanking fans and islanders alike. Bestival is the best!”

All profits from the sale of this album will go to the Isle of Wight Youth Trust (Reg Charity No: 1087163). The Isle of Wight Youth Trust is a charitable, independent and professional organization offering counseling, advice, information and support services to young people aged 25 and under on the Isle of Wight (the home of Bestival) and, in some cases, their parents or carers. The Youth Trust has been working on the Isle of Wight for 27 years and has made a positive input to the wellbeing of people locally. www.iowyouthtrust.co.uk

Eileen Monks, Director of The Isle of Wight Youth Trust, says; “What wonderful news that The Cure should choose us, an Island charity of 27 years, to benefit in this way. This came completely out of the blue and at a time when it is becoming extra hard to raise funds to support our work with children and young people on the Island, further cementing our association with young people in their many interests and aspects of their lives. We would like to thank Rob da Bank for his continuing support.”

Rob da Bank, founder of Bestival says “Since I was 15 and backcombing my hair, donning my sisters eyeliner and singing the lyrics to “A Forest” into my hairbrush I’ve had an unhealthy fascination with The Cure. To say it reached its peak at Bestival 2011 is an understatement, as after seven years of pestering I not only landed The Cure to headline Bestival, but now appear to be putting out one of their live records on my own record label. How strange! For any of the 50,000 who were at Bestival and saw all or some of the two and a half hour set, this live album will transport you back. For fans of The Cure who didn’t make it I know this will be a legendary addition to your Cure collection!”

New Track: Pretty Good Dance Moves – “8th Movement (I Wonder Why)”

Pretty Good Dance Moves was born when the group combined their analog synths and drum machine collections and began experimenting with electro/dance tracks in 2006. After a few years of experimenting the group cut some demos which were released by the group independently. These recordings caught the attention of Seattle’s influential KEXP radio station, which invited the band to do an in-studio while they were broadcasting in Chicago for a week. This dynamic performance, which was their first ever, immediately launched the band into the spotlight, with a KEXP staff member later naming it the best in-studio of the year. Meanwhile, Spin Magazine decided to premiere their video starring the correspondent from the Daily Show/ Flight of the Conchords personality Kristen Schaal.

Now, Pretty Good Dance Moves announce their new album LIMO to be released on February 7th, 2012. For this full-length, which will be released on MAD Dragon/Township, the band enlisted the sultry vocals of Brazilian Girls’ singer Sabina Sciubba. You can listen and download the closing track from the album, premiered exclusively by Stereogum HERE.

The synthy-electro dance band Pretty Good Dance Moves with Jimmy Giannopoulos and Aaron Allietta at the core, is based out of Brooklyn, NY and spent the last few years cutting tracks with dozens of collaborators, including Bjorn Yttling (Peter Bjorn & John), Lissy Trullie, Patience Hodgson (The Grates), Linnea Jonsson (Those Dancing Days) & Genevieve Schatz (Company of Thieves).  The band released their self-titled debut PGDM EP in 2010.

Pretty Good Dance Moves new album LIMO was cut at their Brooklyn apartment and in Paris, France. This new album crosses electro-experimental-ambient and disco boundaries and takes a different approach from their previous recordings. LIMO is 32 minutes long, composed of 8 movements and intended to be listened to as one complete work from start to finish.  PGDM’s intention was to make a record, not singles!  Sabina Sciubba of Brazilian Girls is the featured vocalist on LIMO and sings in 3 different languages (English, German and French).

New Music: Gigamesh

Gigamesh’s debut self-titled EP is available through all digital retailers starting today, through Our Label International. Additionally, fans can buy the extended version of the single “When You’re Dancing Ft. Induce” exclusively on Beatport. Gigamesh has received considerable attention and support from DJs as diverse as DJ AM and Brodinski to Busy P and Fare Soldi for his bootleg remixes of artists like Animal Collecitve, Lykke Li and Radiohead, the latter two of which hit #1 on the Hype Machine. In celebration of the EP release, he has released the new “It’s So Intense” (Fare Soldi Enrico Pallazzo Remix) MP3.

Check it out and download HERE.

Gigamesh opens the EP with disco-infused single “When You’re Dancing (feat. Induce)” with a hook that commands you to move. “It’s So Intense” lives up to its name as a hazy synth-driven club banger. EP closer “People” shows the melodic side of Gigamesh, lead by melodic vocals from Nicole Godiva while still incorporating bass guitar and synths.

Known for pushing the boundaries of dance music, Gigamesh has been making his mark for several years in dance clubs around the world. He has garnered widespread success with his own popular blend of remixes, as well as his work with remix group DiscoTech, and his role in Señor Stereo, a disco influenced live-electronic group. Gigamesh was hired to remix Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me” in late 2009.  Ultimately chosen to be the first single on Posner’s debut album, the Gigamesh version went on to sell over 2.5 million copies.

Gigamesh Tour Dates
10/29: Minneapolis, MN @ Kitty Cat Klub, Record Release Show
11/4: Toronto, ON @ The Gladstone
11/5: New York, NY @ Juliet Supperclub

New Video: SafetySuit – “Let Go”

Nashville-based SafetySuit has just revealed the new video for “Let Go.” It’s the latest single from the forthcoming album set to release early next year.

Coming off the heels of their 2008 release, Life Left To Go and hit single “Stay” (which garnered the band the coveted “You Oughta Know” spot on VH1), the Universal Republic signed pop-rockers have continued to hone their fun and playful energy into a downright hookfest of arena ready rock anthems.

New Album (today): Digitalism – I Love You, Dude

Click to stream the new album at AOL Spinner

I Love You, Dude, the sophomore album from Digitalism is out today in the US digitally and will be released physically on July 5th.  The album features 10 tracks, each of which has their own vibrant identity. This is the sound of a band welding dancefloor pugilism onto crafted sonic sculpture. They set the bar high for themselves, and deliver with an amazing album featuring tracks like  “Forrest Gump,” co-written with Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas, “Circles,” with its Who-ish keyboard and apparently existential lyrics, and standout pop single “2 Hearts.”

Newest Love: The Japanese Popstars

New album Controlling Your Allegiance out June 21

The Japanese Popstars – Gary Curran, Declan ‘Decky Hedrock’ McLaughlin and Gareth Donoghue – may have been together for just four years, but they’ve carved out a reputation to rival the biggest names in dance music as a must-see live act and purveyor of raucous, foot-stomping, energetic electronic dance music. In the two years since their debut album We Just Are dropped on Gung-Ho! (UK), they have played major market dates in the U.S. including Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Electric Daisy Carnival in LA, played in Australia, across Europe and, of course Japan – a place that’s especially taken them to their hearts.

The band has also made a name for themselves as sought after remixers, having notched up their own inimitable re-rubs for luminaries such as Beyonce, Depeche Mode, Gorillaz and Kylie Minogue. In keeping with this proud tradition, The Japanese Popstars were also featured in the Tron Remix album, Tron: Legacy Reconfigured with their take on Daft Punk‘s Arena.

But it’s Controlling Your Allegiance, that’s the real leap forward as this is The Japanese Popstars first use of vocalists on an album.  And they didn’t pick just any old session singers either…  Wonder why the track “Take Forever” sounds like The Cure? That’s because the trio has enlisted collaborations from top notch artists such as Robert Smith (The Cure), Lisa Hannigan, Jon Spencer (of Blues Explosion), Tom Smith (The Editors), Green Velvet,  Morgan Kibby, M83 and Ireland’s James Vincent McMorrow.

I’m not sure what this video is really about…and I’m not sure what that creature is. All I know is that I felt bad for it while watching…it sort of made me sad. Quite an odd video.

Anyhow, you’ll like them if you’re a fan of Depeche Mode and Gorillaz.
